As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

My afternoon elementary Glory class...Bedro and Michelle were not at school today. Here's us girls being REAL productive.. ㅋㅋㅋ!Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Wednesday November 30

1. Started my day off by getting freaked-out on by a certain "someone" for no apparent reason except for the fact that someone must have peed in her corn flakes and I just happen to be there to reap the repercussions.
2. Looks like in addition to preparing Wisdom AND Dream's Christmas presentations, I'm also in charge of preparing something for Peace class. Interesting! Oh ya, this day is off to a GREAT start!
3. Started teaching my Wisdom class their Christmas show song..."Jingle Bell Rock". I'm convinced that these little ones are not only going to put on a rockin' show with their funky hip choreography I'm teaching them.
4. Can't wait to use my new Konglish words when I eventually visit Canada. Today's word, "egg fry". Definition, fried egg.
5. Played "poker" and had a pretty good hand. Not only did I score money but I also landed a new status label..... good stuff.
6. Talkes about Christmas plans have started. Looks like I'll be having my first Charlie Brown Christmas. Bah humbug!
7. Nominated Pete as the "Jerk of the Day" for his quite unappreciated joke that used my past relationship as the punch line! Pete, I think the world of you but today, you're not having such a good day.
8. Impressed Ryan with my "I am Canadian" thick skin as we raced down Cheonan streets late at night on his scooter with me wearing one layer of simple clothing.
9. Spent the rest of the evening trying to act tough and not show that I had caught a deep chill. I'm okay though, I'm Canadian. In my country we're use to making snowballs with no gloves. They don't even get snow here!
10. Storytime with Ryan. Read him a children's book, "The Little Wolf that Cried Boy" (yes, I know you think it should be the opposite with the title). I'm hoping he picked up on today's lesson.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How come Superman wears his underwear on top of his other clothes?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

In loving memory of my little "wild child", Daewoo. You were my first dog and I'll never forget you.Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Tuesday November 29

1. Last day with Daewoo.
2. Guy Smiley was extra smiley today at the GS store and I couldn't figure out why. He had my milk ready in a bag for me and turns out he had paid for it too. Sweet!
3. Got complaints from Wisdom class Hanna's mom for not writing anything about her private tutoring in her communication diary for the past week. Complaints?! Here's a complaint.... why has it taken you 9 months to take interest in her education?! I'm doing WAY more than my part. I didn't even think you knew she had a communication diary.
4. Feeling the love from Daniel, my "kinder-husband". Wrote a cute love note for him cause he was feeling sad in the morning. By lunchtime I had so many kinder kids gossiping about this supposedly "juicy love letter". Kids, they say the darnest things!
5. Spent a good portion of my afternoon preparing my Dream class Christmas musical script cd. Jules helped me out but I still got stuck acting out 7 of the 10 characters. I even had to sing all the songs... hoping no one recognizes the singer in the cd! ㅋㅋㅋ!
6. Totally impressed with Cookie's cooking (school cook). She went from opening cereal boxes for snacktime to cooking ful-out meals. Today's snack was kimchi rice.... lovin' it!
7. Interesting,...how come Mr Friendly (local restaurant owner) goes totally out of his way to say hi to me every day and yet when I'm with Ryan (last night), he turns his back on me, literally.
8. Gave Daewoo a quick hair cut before I took him to meet his new adoptive mother, Ryan's coworker.
9. Tried desperately to play the "innocent crying girl" to the taxi drivers who refused to let me into their cabs with Daewoo. My hero was played by Ryan who convinced his coworker to come pick up Daewoo.
10. Handed Daewoo over to his new mom and cried a bit as I watched her struggle with him. When I walked away he started to bark and tried to run to me. He put up a big fuss, refused to walk. and cried so much. Thankfully I ran into a friend, Sean, and so I quickly had to force myself to compose myself.

Can you spot what's wrong with this picture.... hint, check out the middle couch cushion and the floor!!! He's a four legged couch-eating machine! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Monday November 28

1. My usual, expected "Black Monday" turned into a really productive Monday with my storytelling class and the kinder Glory class.... this is a first.
2. It's official... Daewoo has been adopted. Tomorrow he'll go and meet his new adoptive mother, Ryan's coworker.
3. Kicked Bedro out of my afternoon Glory class. He refused to get up and so I had to struggle picking him up. He just wouldn't let go of my chair so out he went attached to it. What a tough kid.
4. Made James 1 blush in my afternoon Peace class. I was all dressed up for work today and I know the boys already tease him cause he thinks I'm pretty so today I had fun with it. He's such a sweet kid.
5. It's official.... The English Schoolhouse is closed for business. Interesting, it didn't even get a chance to open it's doors! So sad.
6. Gave Daewoo his last bath and boy was he not impressed.
7. So much for not seeing Ryan tonight... he showed up and took me out for supper. Thanks!
8. Shocked both the cell phone lady and the kimbob restaurant lady as I walked in with Ryan and announced to them that he was my boyfriend. They both gave him the once-over and then smiled. Seems like curious older women and their love for gossip is more universal than I though!
9. After only being out of the house for an hour or so, I came home to a floor littered with sofa padding. Daewoo had a field day on one of my couch cushions and so it looked like a bomb had gone off in the middle of the couch. I've got two words for you Daewoo, "Anger" "Management"... learn it, get it, do it!
10. Because Daewoo pulled a tantrum and puked on my bedspread, going to sleep tonight on the floor cause my bed has no sheets and at least the floor is heated. This is ghetto, thanks Daewoo; you're a super star!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's your definition of "home"?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
The stupid neither forgive or forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget.

Can you guess as to who these two guys are? Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Sunday November 27

1. Countdown is on till Daewoo finds a new adopted parent. Mixed feelings on this one.
2. Started to seriously search out my other options for next year... hmm, Professor Amy sounds nice!
3. Experienced first hand what it must feel like to be a black girl dating a white guy in Whitby.... terrible feeling! It's funny how things look different now.
4. Ryan and I ventured out to EMart to buy groceries for our Canadian-style breakfast we had been contemplating all morning. Turns out that our taxi ride out and grocery shopping cost us more than our trip out to the Canadian restaurant in Seoul.... go figure!
5. Had a wicked home cooked, Canadian style meal.... French toast, bacon and eggs. As Ryan would say, it was "most delicious!" ㅋㅋㅋ!
6. Ran into the "Brown Boy idiot" while walking downtown with Ryan. We both locked eyes and then turned back to exchange glances. Mind you, my glance was more like a "touch me and die punk"!
7. I think I'm turning Korean... ate spicy hot noodles tonight for supper and was disappointed that they weren't really spicy, apparently they were though.
8. Realized that I'm actually nervous to go back and visit Canada.
9. Admit that I must be super-human. Ryan's been sick for the past week and despite how much I've been around him, I seem to be super immune to his bad cold! I'm Super Woman!
10. You know you're a text-message ho when you put $10 on your cell and it lasts only 2 weeks even though you don't phone anyone (it's all text messages)! ㅋㅋㅋ!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's your secret to staying healthy?

Sleeping beauty! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Saturday November 26

1. Introduced Ryan to the good old "Dutch oven"... ㅋㅋㅋ!
2. Hmmmm, interesting. After months of not talking to him via email or the telephone, good old Muffin Nuts from Canada calls me up out of the blue. It's nice to know that I'm missed, regardless of the reasons.
3. Sent Ryan to the store to by tights for me and then after he returned with the wrong kind, sent him again. So funny... in my country this would probably be viewed as a form of torture but Ryan's totally cool about it.... cool.
4. Dressed Ryan up in a totally Korean stylin' style.... black velvet blazer, white dress shirt and blue jeans. All I can say is Canadian men have nothing on this Korean man!
5. Ventured into Seoul with Ryan with no particular plans at all.
6. While waiting for our bus in Cheonan, met a cute little 3 yr old boy with a better fashion sense than most men six times his age. He apparently was fascinated with my white exposed legs (I was wearing a skirt) and so he continually insisted on grabbing them.... not touching, I mean grabbing!
7. Our day trip into Seoul consisted of tasting the various street vendor's foods and window shopping. Ryan bought me silver earrings and that was basically the extent of our shopping purchases.
8. Spent the whole day away from my apartment knowing for a sure fact that Daewoo is probably chewing on my walls. He's a mean, lean, wall-chewing crazy dog machine!
9. Finally read my email from Marcus.... ya Marcus, you're totally right.... you are, as the Koreans would say, "dong"!
10. Admit that my 9th comment for today took things too far. Sorry Ryan, I can't get over the stupidity of this whole situation. It's comical and yet sad at the same time.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How often do you remember your dreams?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream.

Good times tonight but what's up with Little Boy-Red sneaking a kiss on the cheek?! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Friday November 25

1. Had one of those mornings where I waited till absolute last minute till I had to get out of bed. Wished hard that it'd be Saturday but my wish never came true.
2. Busted my butt to work so that I could be on time for tutoring with Hanna. Talk about a rough morning... even Guy Smiley wasn't at the GS store to cheer me on.
3. Ice cream treat day with Wisdom, like every Friday. Beginning to think I either treat them too much cause they're deserving of this or I'm totally spoiling them. I think I'm a sucker for these kids... I love these little runny-nosed mini-Koreans!
4. Turned into the "English Nazi" with my afternoon elementary Peace class. Listened and watched in shock as four students played a full English game in Korean and then much to their surprise, handed out sheets of paper for them to write "lines". ("At SLP I will only speak English" x24).
5. Think it's funny how I was forewarned that Bedro in my elementary Glory class was extra shy, shy with who though? I can't get this little one to be quiet or stop touching me!
6. Ice cream date planned for Sunday with Dream Minseo and Jimmy is canceled once again due to Jimmy's grandparents now coming in from out-of-town. I think I'm more disappointed than either of them.
7. Ventured downtown to MBar to meet up with a whole crew of people but unfortunately only 2/3 of the people showed up....what's up with that?! It was so cool to see Cheung again though, I really missed that guy. Always good times at MBar!
8. Hmmm, interesting.... got my picture taken with some of the MBar guys and realized much after the picture was taken that one of them had snuck a kiss in the shot... or so it looks like! I'm sure Ryan will be impressed.
9. Ran into the "Brown boy idiot" at MBar and tried hard to be on my best behavior (ie. tried hard not to snap on him after have to deal with his repetitive comments everytime I walked). It's only cause I'm in Korea that I didn't punch that fool.
10. After leaving MBar, sat on the curb and watched the men lift up a three story high star onto the front of Yawoori and reminisced about Christmas decorating with my mom and dad. No hanging of the stockings, no lighting up the tree and sadly, no cabbage rolls and coffee at midnight this year.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's your favorite holiday?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Where are you Christmas
Why can't I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can't I hear music play

My world is changing
I'm rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I'm not the same one
See what the time's done
Is that why you have let me go?
-- Song lyrics from "Where are you Christmas"

Highlights of My Day...Thursday November 24

1. WENT TO THE ZOO
Us foreign teachers went to Daejon for interviews due to the Korean qovernment's crack down on illegal teachers. It took less time than we expected to off to Zooland we went.... teacher field trip!
Posted by Picasa

2. MET MY ZOO FAVORITE!
Got to see my all time favorite animal... the spider monkey! I got snapped at by some other monkey, got to take five monkeys home (stuffed toys), and even got to kiss one! Posted by Picasa

3. MET SOME ZOO FREAKS!
Met a giraffe with an overly excited snake-like tongue, an elephant with a fifth leg, and a golden retriever listed as exotic (just joking but I thought it weird that they had him on exibit). I never got to meet the Korean who messed up on the sign though. I think they meant "donkey".

Posted by Picasa

4. MET SOME ZOO HOTTIES!
Got to meet this beautiful lion who was starring me down, two cute bear cubs who are international friends (the Korean moon bear and the American black bear), saw some handsome little guys in tuxedos, and met a silky smooth goat. Posted by Picasa

5. MET SOME NEW FRIENDS!
We all went on this bus tour that took us into this enclosed area where the animals were free to approach up close. Met this really hungry greedy bear who even after we started to drive away, he insisted on not letting go of the driver's window cage. Got to be a mere few feet away of some chillin' lions too! Posted by Picasa

6. GOOD TIMES AND LOTS OF LAUGHS AT THE ZOO!
We all had such a wicked time acting silly and enjoying our "teacher field trip". Louis got friendly with some animals, Tasha and me got friendly with some zoo cutie, Dave was lovin' the fact that I was the designated cameraman, and I'm sure all were impressed with Louis and my rendition of "Grease"!
Posted by Picasa
7. The rest of the day was BRUTAL because we had to go back to school and face reality!
8. Although I missed the kinder field trip to the milk factory, still scored a huge container of milk-coffee. Always amazed at how they stay skinny despite their 7% milk!
9. Talk about such a disappointing afternoon... stayed to 9 pm bustin' my butt trying to finish my kinder reports, marking diaries, planning lessons, and then had an "interesting" talk with my director.
10. Talk about such a disappointing evening.... came home only to discover Daewoo had been literally eating my wall, I stepped in his pee, and found out that Ryan's not coming out tomorrow night cause he's sick!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What was your favorite place to visit as a child?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

My "Korean husband" Daniel.... I'm convinced he's got a massive crush on me cause when I'm teaching his class he can't leave me alone! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Wednesday November 23

1. I lovin' it... Guy Smiley at the GS store and I have been slowly establishing a morning conversation routine. He tests out his English and I try out my Korean.
2. Early morning tutoring class with Hanna turned into a cuddlefest yet again.
3. Am convinced that Daniel from the kinder Peace class will one day be Korea's #1 boyfriend. Ever since I've made him my "Korean husband", he's been such a good student for me. Today the best was when he offered me his chair, whipped it clean and then tucked it under me!
4. Found out that tomorrow's kinder field trip is the milk factory! Anyone that knows me knows how obsessed I am with milk. My mom's convinced that I need my own private cow. I'm all about the banana milk!
5. ACHIEVEMENT TEST DAY!!! I love test day and yes, I realize that that's sick but it feels so good to be on the giving end finally!
7. Practiced my Korean on my elementary Peace class students while some finished up their test papers. Got called pretty by James and boy was he beat red when he realized I understood what he had said. I love it how they all laugh when I speak Korean, that's really good for my confidence! ㅋㅋㅋ!
7. After keeping Daewoo in captivity for way too long, finally took him outside for a walk. Always surprised at how consistent and persistent he is with insisting on eating everything that comes along his path.
8. Went underwear shopping and struggled with the sizes. As a joke I pretended to start to try them over my pants. The sales lady didn't really share in my humor though.
9. After being called evil all day from my twisted love of tests, spent time making and gathering stuff for a get-well gift for Ryan. See, I'm not that mean after all.
10. Told myself I'd go to bed early tonight but going to be early in the morning wasn't exactly what I had planned. Stayed up chatting till about 4 am. Just couldn't fall asleep!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Where do you see yourself in a year from now?

No this is not Daewoo.... this little wild child is Oakley. This is the baby of my best friend Andi and Mark in Canada.... he's a VERY new addition to their lives. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Tuesday November 22

1. My good deed of the day was lecturing Guy Smiley at the GS 25 store about smoking. I'm sure he was really impressed with my early morning preaching.
2. Spent 40 mins working with Hanna on the alphabet... something we had taught her 9 months ago. Spent the rest of the morning totally confused as to how she's digressed so much. Not a good thing at all. I'm glad that after 9 months of coming late her mom has started to noticed its' effects on her academics.
3. Amused my elementary Glory class with my silly magnet and appearing hair clip trick. Then, went into the staff room and amused them with the same trick. I think I got the most amusement out of it all though. It's times like this that reassure me I'm definitely Polish! ㅋㅋㅋ!

4. Opps, forgot to mention in Sunday's blog entry that I tried "Dip and Dots". They're these tiny freezing cold coloured balls of air-dried ice cream. Ryan was lovin' it but I thought it was more like astronaut food. I much prefer the "old school" ice cream.
5. Promotional day at school for our kindergarten program and so my Wisdom class was super hyper with the additional 40-some random faces poking their head in our classroom door.
6. It's a miracle... Wisdom Hanna came to school with her diary homework done. Mind you, I should mention here that I'm pretty sure her mother did it, not Hanna.
7. Bought myself two extra days before I'll be drilled from Director Lee as to what my plans for next year consist of... Oh Gosh!
8. Spent the whole entire evening planning for next year and came up with the following conclusions.... I'm not going to be homeless after all and Daewoo will probably have to go. I'm not a good mother, friend or roommate to this little wild child and next year my life is going to that much busier.
9. Tried to convince myself that I won't miss Daewoo. I won't miss him wreaking my place, chewing on all my stuff (including my walls), jumping on my head while I sleep, his smelly #2s, his early morning barking but I'll miss his silly quirks, companionship, and our Sunday afternoon mountain walkes.
10. It's official... tonight was my FIRST night not seeing Ryan since we started dating.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
If you had one wish what would you use that wish on?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

I'm lovin' it... Sarah from my elementary Peace class chose to spotlight me in her diary homework. The topic, pick someone you admire and write about them. Cool! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Monday November 21

1. Started this work week on an early note.... had to be at work by 8:30 am to privately tutor Wisdom class Hanna.
2. Tutoring Hanna turned into a cuddlefest but boy was she confused when she realized that she was the only student in the class. Little did she know, she was also the only student in the school. 3. Hot topic of discussion today was whether or not it was pig's blood or cow's blood I ate on the weekend. Like I really needed to be reminded about that.... I feel so barbaric! ㅋㅋㅋ!
4. Wore my new hot black suede boots to school and got called "sexy" by a few of my kindergarten students. One question here, who's teaching them these words cause God knows they're not picking them up in my class!
5. Not such a "Black Monday"... it was more like a "Grey Monday" with the kindergarten Glory class. Planned such a simple lesson not thinking I'd actually get through it and yet we did, what a surprise. Too bad it wasn't somewhat consistent.
6. Achievement testing for my students starts this week....great! I can honestly say I love tests. Feels so good after so many years of being on the receiving end to now have the roles reversed. I totally earned this moment!
7. Funniest thing that happened today was when John from my elementary Peace class thought it funny to try to surprise attack me by hiding behind the classroom door (he always does this). However, when he jumped out he slipped a bit and his watch clip ended up getting caught on my skirt... Conveniently right on the rear too. I think we were both equally embarrassed!
8. Always amazed at the total lack of intelligence certain people exercise when asking questions. I would have asked him, "What are you thinking?" but I highly doubt he was thinking.....so let me just leave it at that. He knows who he is and what I'm talking about!
9. Busted my butt at training on the treadmill only to realize that I just spent the last 25 minutes working off those cheap, sugar-infested, overly processed cookies I ate at school courtesy of Cookie and her "I don't want to cook for snack time"!
10. Looked like a true hardcore Canadian as I ventured downtown late in the evening wearing sandals, light pants, and a thin sweater. Everyone else was bundled up but honestly and there I stood with my Canadian pride.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What would you rather eat, pig's blood or cow's blood?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Finally after a long afternoon shopping at the Yawoori, we leave with a simple pair of tights and socks. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Sunday November 20

1. Went shopping AGAIN today and AGAIN it wasn't too successful. Thankfully we stayed in Cheonan but after hours of shopping all we bought was tights for me and socks for Ryan! ㅋㅋㅋ!
2. Switched meals with Yoon at lunch cause I didn't know how to pick at the meat in the soup. Then 5 1/2 hours later he informs me it wasn't tofu I ate...it was dried chunks of PIG'S BLOOD!!! I thought I was going to faint! Maybe I should try out for "Fear Factor".
3. Spent a good part of the evening pondering who the heck would even come up with the idea of collecting pig's blood and then incorporating it into a meal!
4. Question of the day from the sales people was "why is she [me] wearing two jackets?" News flash ladies....it's winter outside. You've got Korean women with totally mis-matched clothing, pairing skirts with pants, and wearing cowboy boots with althetic gear and yet you think I'm dressed weird?! What's up with that?! Ryan was too polite about it. He told people I was sporting "Toronto-style".
5. Saved over $600 at Yawoori, mind you that was because I couldn't bring myself to buy the coat and purse that I really liked. I really wanted the jacket but wasn't about to shill out that much cash.
6. I love it.... Korean's insist of eating super spicy food despite the fact that it makes them sweat and it totally kills their taste buds, not too mention breath! ㅋㅋㅋ! Shared spicy chicken with Ryan and watched him sweat eating it. It was like he was doing a workout!
7. Had my first bubble bath in Korea! Now this is the life! ㅋㅋㅋ!
8. Got my fingers crossed for Andi's mom. She's in Las Vegas and I'm hoping she'll win big so that she can fly Andi out here! Talk about hoping high eh!
9. How great is Ryan.... he froze his butt off riding back to my place to pick up my lesson planning stuff so that I could spend more time with him tonight. That guy's awesome!
10. I admit it... I'm addicted to banana milk and tangerines despite the fact that the milk here is so thick and gives me a tummy ache practically EVERY time I drink it.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's the worst thing you ever ate?

Some snapshots of our Saturday in Seoul Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, November 19

1. Got up way too late and then had to keep my cool as the taxi driver had to put up with downtown Saturday traffic. A ride that usually takes 15 mins took over 30 mins today. Ahhhh, I hate traffic.
2. Thinking it's all a conspiracy... got told that Cheonan would be having the water turned off in the city from Friday 9 pm till Sunday 3 pm. Well, it's Saturday and I still have water.
3. Ventured out to Seoul with Yoon (Ryan) to do some Christmas shopping. My simple lists consisted of five gifts but I bought boots, bubble bath, and only two out of the five gifts.
4. Tried on way too many boots and was so quick to blush whenever any of the salesmen touched my legs.... I'll leave it at that! Patty, you know what I'm talking about girl! ㅋㅋㅋ!
5. After trying on literally every pair of boots in the stores, finally agreed on this hot pair of black suede boots. Thankfully for me, the sales guy was so interested in Ryan and me cause we (Korean man with white woman) isn't such a common thing and so it lead me to a huge discount. Good stuff.
6. Came to the conclusion that Yoon is probably the only man alive, besides my father, that can tolerate shopping. I even think he likes it better than my mom!
7. Despite Korean norms, snuck a kiss on Ryan's cheek while posing for a picture. Ryan says kissing in public during daytime is like walking around naked... just not normal!
8. Checked out "Puffin restaurant", a Canadian-style place in Seoul that serves all-day breakfast... Canadian style! Feasted on scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and an omelet. It was so great to feast on such foods... felt like I was sitting at my mom's kitchen table.
9. Realized why Darren was so curious about my ex-engagement, it's because he didn't realize it was an "EX" engagement. He still thinks I'm engaged and so I can only imagine what kind of person he thinks I am... which I'm not!
10. Found out that me being white and dating Ryan in Korea is like me dating a black guy in Whitby, in terms of his parents' reaction that is. Never thought about it before cause in Toronto everyone's mixed together. I understand their concerns though, to a certain extent and so I'm hesitant and nervous to meet them!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...

This rare picture was taken by NASA and only appears once every 3000 years.
Make a wish... you just looked at the "Eye of God" Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, November 18

1. Sent an unexpected and sarcastic egreeting to numerous members of my extended family announcing my engagement break-up. It's been the hot question and I'm sick of continually being asked about it. Wasn't surprised when only one person responded to it. Thanks Nashelle.
2. Like usual, stopped by the GS 25 store for banana milk and was greeted by the GS lady and her faithful side-kick, "Guy-Smiley". Talk about service... he greeted me at the door with my banana milk. Am always curious as to why he giggles when he sees me though. Am I funny looking? What's so funny?
3. Treated my Wisdom class to ice cream for snack time. I brought them this ice cream snack that's got red bean, rice, and ice cream in a flower shaped cookie pocket. I'm so addicted to them that even after Hanna licked it I still ate it!
4. Nice, Mr Lee still hasn't solved the problem with having 28 kinder kids in the gym at once for gym class. Convinced Shannon to not have her class join with my Wisdom and Dream. Today's injury list only reached 2, that's definitely a first! ㅋㅋㅋ
5. Had a snack party with my afternoon Glory class. I'm always surprised by the unusual snacks they bring. Bedro was acting all cute with me by trying to feed me while I was teaching the lesson. Thought it was sweet until I ate a wet cookie. Realized via their reaction that he had licked it and then fed it to me..... nasty but I ate it anyways!
6. Was suppose to catch up with Tasha and some of the others but a friend unexpectedly showed up at my house, Park. I had met Park over a month ago at the boxing gym in Seoul. He had told me that he had friends in Asan and so I told him to give me a ring if he was ever in the area. So, he did.
7. Had a nere death experience as some unobservant taxi driver almost side-swiped Park and me while we were coming back from the resturant on his motorcycle. Park claims that he felt the taxi cab graze his leg, great.
8. Chatted online for a bit with my ex-boss from Toronto, Rooster. What a guy!
9. Got somewhat drilled by Darren about my ex-engagement. Not too sure why all of a sudden the interest on his part. I'm assuming it's cause I'm now dating his good friend and coworker, Yoon.
10. Drama 101 at Kooma... things went too far but things are good now.

How do you know what you know?

Highlights of My Day...Thursday November 24

1. WENT TO THE ZOO!
Us foreign teachers went to Daejon for interviews due to the Korean qovernment's crackdown on illegal teachers. However, it took only 10 mins and so since we were all the way out there we thought we'd take advantage of the momment. Off to Zooland!

Me with my partners in crime.... Jinny and Jules! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Thursday November 17

1. Rushed back to my house only to leave a "lose or die" file in the back of my taxi cab. Sat outside on the curb side for about 20 mins until I realized that the cabbie wasn't coming back. Went to school all teary-eyed.
2. Admit that I must be the worse mother in the world for Daewoo... originally had opened my window so that I could hear whether or not the cab was going to return my lost file. Mind you, I left for work and totally forgot about it. Came home to a shaking Daewoo!
3. Had open house with my Wisdom class and so all my students' mothers came to sit in on the class. It was a great success with the exception of Hanna's mother who was shocked at the fact that her daughter didn't do good. How she expects her to learn anything when she sends her 40 mins late is what shocks me.
4. Picked up an extra class.... tutoring Wisdom Hanna everyday at 8:30am.
5. Busted my butt the rest of the day trying to recover and print up info from that "lose or die" file. Ah the stress!
6. While brushing my teeth at school, kinder Peace class Daniel (my little Korean husband) snuck up and gave me the biggest smack on my butt. Boy did that little guy have power in his swing. I'm convinced those in the teacher's lounge heard my scream!
7. Found out where all the stuffing Daewoo's been chewing on is coming from. Great... add that to the list of repairs couticy of Daewoo.
8. Got 21 emails from family members back in Canada who decided to send one-liner emails to each other while at work/home.... it's called msn ladies. Check it out, PLEASE!
9. Am convinced that some of my family members have way too much time on their hands. Here's an email from my cousin Kimberly...

Amy, Amy, Amy,....I dare you to not say "his" name! I double-dog dare ya girl! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Wednesday November 16

1. After a brief panic attack last night cause I couldn't find my bank card and finding myself standing in the street penniless (well, wonless in Korea), found my card in my desk at work. All worked up over nothing!
2. Trained my Wisdom class to act like solders when Jenny helper play fights with me. Thought it was funny until I realized that some of them were literally fighting for my life. Kevin and Jack both got upset, thinking I was honestly getting attacked.
3. What a guy! Jack surprised me with a kiss but I wasn't expecting it so when I turned my head he got me right on the lips. There I was, in the middle of the hallway with all the helpers watching Jack kiss me as hard as he could on the lips and for as long as he could hold it too. Who teaches a kid to kiss like that?!
4. Drama 101 with Jimmy. I've got that stop crying on command down pack but he refused to say sorry for opening up with locker on Minseo's head. I let him sweat it out in the hall and boy did he get the message.
5. In attempt to patch up Minseo and Jimmy's friendship, promised them to an ice cream date on November 27th. They're so funny... the are loving the fact that it's a secret between the three of us.
6. Went out for supper with Jules and Jinny..... supper lasted 3 1/2 hours. The funny thing was that I went there hungry and ironically left just as hungry.
7. Well I've got good news and bad news.... good news is I'm staying in Korea for a guaranteed additional two years, bad news is I don't think I'll be able to eat kimchi for another 730 days straight.
8. No training tonight... I think sitting in the same spot for over 3 hours was hard enough.
9. Had my first bath in 9 months!
10. On a sad note, Kwang Chul (Ryan's cousin Hyo Hoon's boyfriend) just received his papers from the government and so he's got two weeks before he has to head off to the Korean army. Ryan says he won't be able to see Hyo Hoon until 100 days have past. That sucks big time!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's the one thing you're sure of in life?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

After showing Kris her photo on my blog she freaked and insisted that I put a nicer one on. Dave and I both think she looks adorable in the other photo but here's another one.
I hope she wasn't also expecting me to erase the other one,ㅋㅋㅋ! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Tuesday November 15

1. The ultimate highlight of my day was definitely when Wisdom Joel peed on my pants... nice! He had asked to go to the bathroom but couldn't get his backpack off so I helped him. I then picked him up to run him into the boys' room but it was too late and unfortunately for me, I got the worse end of the situation!
2. Despite my pee soaked pant leg, courtesy of Joel, I didn't have enough time to go home and change so I taught my next class and had to endure another hour of it.
3. Got called "smelly teacher" by Betty in my Glory class who dropped her eraser and caught wind of my peed on pant leg. Great, now she probably thinks her teacher pees her pants!
4. Kids say the darnest thing. Had a good laugh while marking my elementary Leo class' notebooks. I particularly liked their answer to the question "what do you want to be [when you grow up]?" Pinky wanted to be a flower and Julia wanted to be a school. I'm not too sure on what kind of pay these future jobs offer! Sana wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. Maybe I shouldn't tell her any of the job hazards that come with that occupation, like getting peed on or knowing that I'm probably wearing every germ known to man kind because of these kids and their obsession with touching every nook and cranny of their bodies and then insisting on touching me!
5. Discovered that Betty in my Leo class has been persistent at trying to forge my signature. Maybe I should tell her that next time she tries to do it, don't do it in the notebook she hands in for homework!
6. Dave mentioned that he noticed the past few blog entries have been mainly about Ryan. So, for tonight, no mention of "him" will be made.
7. It's a miracle.... finally after almost a week, I've got heat and gas in my apartment again! Celebrated with cracking open a box of my stashed-away macaroni and cheese and for a special treat I even used banana milk in it! Went to have my first hot shower and my skin was super sensitive to the temperature change. I think I'm use to the below zero showers!
8. Ran into my good old "buddy"... "Bashing-boy B". Just as I was about to get into the opening elevator, there he stood. We immediately noticed each other and surprisingly exchanged smiles and hellos. Of course I never got into the elevator. Can't help but remember our run-in at MBar where I forewarned him to stay away from me. "If you see me walking on the street, cross the road and walk the other way" is what I remember telling after our MBar argument. That boy's got a lot of guts I tell ya!
9. Cutest thing... explaining an English t-shirt to the Crown Bakery guy who had no idea what it read. His shirt read, "Jesus loves even me".
10. Hmmmm...... what were my plans for the rest of my evening? Go train and then visit "him". See Dave, I'm able to not mention "his" name in a whole day's blog entry!

I know exactly what Daewoo's probably thinking....
"Not only do you not cut my hair so I can see but you leave me in a cold house and leave me your smelly slippers to play with... Thanks Mom!" Posted by Picasa

Highlights of My Day...Monday November 14

1. Still no heat or gas in my apartment. This is pure ghetto!
2. Walked into school later than usual and all the helper teachers freaked out when they saw me walk in with Louis. Relax ladies.... you only with we had juicy gossip. Louis ain't my style and I'm not available anymore.
3. Jenny teacher returned back to work after her car accident last week. Good to see she's alright cause she's my "partner in crime" with our elementary Glory class.
4. Still not too sure on how to take "you've got a small face"...is it a compliment or does it imply I have a shruken head. Had one of my students' mothers say it to me today and after hearing it all weekend, I'm still unsure about it.
5. Another Black Monday with the kindergarten Glory class. Spent the first ten minutes lecturing Jess that his name is Jess and so he's to respond when I call it. How Jinny hasn't reached insanity with these "interesting" class is beyond me!
6. Have made an art out of cold showering.... in Toronto I had a maid, large bathtub, a big apartment and plenty of hot water. In Korea, I'm washing myself in below zero water, sitting on a chewed up couch, and eating raw noodles cause I can't even start up my stove. Even the soldiers in the army get warm water. It's like doing the polar dip EVERY day!
7. Talk about being a workaholic... worked on my school stuff till about 11pm after already putting in a 9 hour work day at SLP that started at 9 am.
8. I admit it, I'm hooked on Vanilla Ice's song "Hooked"... ㅋㅋㅋ!
9. Still haven't returned my videos that are way overdue.... opps!!!
10. Thought I felt my brain going numb by the chilly temperature in my apartment and so I ran off and left Daewoo behind. De-thawed myself at Ryan's pad.
