As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

My last picture with Wisdom class and we all felt it, hence the blah looks on our faces. Posted by Picasa

Ah Dream class. You're so cute and will be so missed! Posted by Picasa

Betty brought me a cake for our good-bye party. We lit the candles and didn't know what song to sing so the three of them sung Happy Birthday to me... I love my Glory girls! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, February 28

1. Last day at SLP.
2. Skipped tutoring to take Hanna for a walk to the GS 25 store where the local cutie Sun Tong works. I see him almost every morning on my way to school and so it was kind of sad to say good-bye to him. He remembered it was my last day and so he treated me to banana milk.
3. Being to think that the only lasting impression I’m giving everyone is that I love banana milk.
4. My two kinder classes, Dream and Wisdom, both had their class parties today and so that consisted of way too much junk food, games, chit chat, and watching Scoopy-Doo.
5. Helped my Wisdom students get ready for hometime one last time and it was so incrediably hard to watch them leave. We did one last big group hug and then Jack started to cry so of course I started to too… then so did Jinny…. then Kevin…. then Joel … then Hanna. Little did I know their mothers were all looking in the window watching us.
6. Had the pleasure of meeting the Big Guy’s next victims…. just joking. Met the new teachers. It was especially great to meet Blaine because I had talked with her on the phone and feel partly responsible for her coming to Korea.
7. Made my Glory girls pinky-swear they wouldn’t tell their parents they saw me cry when Dave gave me a framed picture of us at mud festival. Now they all think I'm a softy. Thanks Betty for the cake your brought me. I'll miss you Glory girls!
8. Wish I could have said some words to Dave and my co-workers when I left but I really hate good-byes and so I hurried home to deal with the separation.
9. It’s official…. plans to do a visa run to Thailand are back on baby! Word has it I’ve even scored free accommodations because Joyce Kim my agent (Wonder Woman) is going there too for business and I’ll be staying with her! Sweet!
10. Treated myself to a visit to the hair salon where I was pampered by two dudes and a sweet stylist, Girl 104, who loved practicing her English on me.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How do you say good-bye?

Congrats to Wisdom class for your completion of your first year of kindergarten. You're moving up and will be in a new class now, Jinny or Kevin I'm sure will probably be your teachers.... ha, ha, ha. I'm so proud of you all. You're my pride and joy of this beautiful country! Posted by Picasa

Thanks Leo students for all the good times.... Jenny, Pinky, Sana, Me, Julie, Betty, Anna, Patrick, John, and Andrew. You better not buy your new teacher banana milk! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, February 27

1. Kindergarten graduation today for Peace and Glory kids. My Wisdom class was suppose to attend but of course, plans never go as planned with the Big Guy and that so that rather annoyed us teachers!
2. Talk about a success with Glory class. Thought I was going to have another Black Monday with having to teach them storytelling after lunch but I walked into the room and there were no kids. Turns out after graduation they all went home and so I had the period off. Great!
3. Snuck out and enjoyed the fresh air because I had no Glory class to teach. Felt like I was back in highschool skipping school…. just joking mom. I of course NEVER skipped school!
4. Talk about an unproductive teaching day. I spent my morning cleaning up my kinder room with my classes and in the afternoon I had two elementary class parties to attend.
5. Was totally shocked and touched when I walked into my Leo class and they had all made going-away cards for me! The common theme in EVERY card was banana milk and of course saying good-bye. They know I love banana milk and so as a parting gift they each gave me a banana milk. Cool!!!
6. Got called “monkey teacher” by John in my Leo class who claims I must be a monkey because he always sees me drinking banana milk.
7. My newest student in my Leo class, Anna, cried when the bell rung because we had to say good-bye.
8. There’s no greater feeling than the joy that comes with coming home to your own home… okay, maybe ice cream gives me this same joy but it felt sooooooooooo good to come back to my new pimpin’ pad. I love it here!
9. Stayed in for the evening and had a candlelit dinner with my favorite Korean, Ryan of course. I must comment here that the topic of discussion was rather interesting. Ryan you’re lucky I love ya because any other girl would have been turned off with your poo-poo talk. Ha, ha, ha.
10. Spent the whole evening dreading having to say good-bye to my kinder kids tomorrow!

Say hello to my new friend... the laundry machine that both washes and dries! Great. I know, I know... I should post a picture of my place but right now it's recovering from Saturday's hurricane (my move). Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, February 26

1. Go, go Inspector Gadget… tried to figure out the funky touch pad code lock on my door but that was a no go. Even Ryan couldn’t understand the instructions and he’s Korean…. or is he?! Turns out it talks to us though and tells us that we just locked the door, that’s nice.
2. Seems like I’ve forgotten a few things about drying clothes cause it’s been so long. Dried Ryan’s sweatshirt and now it fits me perfectly!
3. Think I just got third degree burns from the washer/drier… boy does that baby really cook the clothes!
4. And just when I thought Ryan’s yellow shorts were ugly enough… he washed them with dark clothing and now they’re grayish-yellow. I suppose he’s learned his lesson about sorting the darks from the colors. I’d hate to say it but, it serves him right cause I warned him.
5. Scored on the furniture hunt today with Ryan. Cruised down furniture lane here in Cheonan and picked out a shelf unit, night table and television stand…. sweet!
6. Got pulled over by the police while we were driving around. I thought it was cause I wasn’t wearing a helmet or because of side-walk driving. Turns out it’s because some local has been doing mischievous things while on his bike. Hmmmmm.
7. Stocked up on groceries after going grocery shopping on an empty stomach. Ryan’s little scooter definitely took on a lot by having to take him, me, 6 large jugs of water, and the rest of the groceries home! It’s a tough little scooter!
8. Score!!!! The bathtub does fit through the bathroom door and so now the bathroom door doesn’t need to be taken off. Talk about sexy fossil doors!

9. Can't say I don't look after my boyfriend. Today I gave him a mini pedicure but I don't think he really enjoyed it.
10. Discovered IKEA Korea… amazing!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
I noticed that a lot of people here in Korea are reading my postings... can you identify yourself?

The view from my pimpin' pad window. I'm lovin' it! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, February 25

1. Woke up in the middle of the night and decided I’d try to figure out how to replace the silly toilet seat my curling iron had decided to burn a whole through.
2. Woke up at 9am to some man pounding on my door. Turns out it was the moving truck man and he was exactly an hour early. I suppose he’s just as eager to get me moving as I am. Great!
3. Big thanks to Mr. Moving Truck Man for loading up ALL the stuff when all he was being paid for was driving. He offered to do it because he was so early and it meant I packed up and left my place in army-style.
4. Much thanks to Darren too for all his help when we all know he had company waiting for him. So sweet.
5. Discovered dead red roses hanging upside down in my new apartment and had a mini panic attack…. I hate red roses because of what they mean to me!
6. If a home is a reflection of a person than I think it’s fair to say that either this former tenant was either too poor to buy cleaning supplies or was the sloppiest middle aged woman! I’m talking numerous greasy handprints on the cabinets, dust everywhere, hair everywhere, and the fact that there was dried up vomit on the toilet seat said a lot too. Nasty woman!
7. I killed it, I didn’t mean to but I threw it up in the air, it came crashing down and then it snapped it’s neck and then it’s head popped off. I’m sorry Ryan, I thought your fan could fly.
8. No sooner did I move into the pimpin’ pad than the internet dude showed up. Cool.
9. Ventured around in the apartment building and found a super cool open patio on the 14th floor that’s like two floors high and looks out onto downtown! Looks like I’ll be doing a lot of chilling here, oh ya baby!
10. First night in the new pimpin’ pad and it feels so great to be living it up in Korea! I’ve got the beautiful pad, the beautiful boyfriend, the beautiful new job… Life is definitely beautiful here in Korea!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Is that how you honestly think?

This was my first home in Korea but now I'm stepping it up and becoming a downtown girl... oh ya! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, February 24

1. Ate a plate full of fish today and shocked all my kinder kids cause they know I hate fish. Little do they know, my nostrils are still out of order and so eating is no longer enjoyable.
2. Today’s gym class had a record high injury list! Thought we had lowered it but today’s gym class took out 5 kinder kids!
3. Returned from gym class to a sad empty Wisdom classroom and Jinny standing there crying. Turns out the Big Guy told the helper teachers to take down everything from the walls for the new class come March. Well, that included the massive artwork we had just done yesterday and so Jinny was heartbroken when she discovered her painting all ripped up and on the top of the garbage pile.
4. Presents from the kinder kids and their parents started rolling in today. I love how sweet some of them can be and it only makes it that much harder to have to say good-bye now.
5. Am I illegal in Korea or not? That seems to be the question of the WEEK!
6. Much thanks to Alice teacher, Ryan and Darren for doing what my boss should be doing… helping me with work visa complications.
7. Oh ya, thanks to “Wonder Woman” too for her continuous help and show of friendship. It’s great to know that I’m working hard for someone I can respect.
8. Finished my packing tonight and realized just how impossible it’d be for me to even think of leaving Korea based on all the stuff I’ve accumulated over this one year… WOW!
9. So giddy about the big move to the pimpin’ pad tomorrow… I feel like a little kid at Christmas!

10. Last night in my old apartment. Found myself remanising about how it was when I first walked through these doors over a year ago.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How do you say good-bye?

Okay... so we're not the best suited for the task but we made for a really fun and cute team. Thanks homegirl for your incrediable help... if I had to do it alone I think I'd be wearing more than paste in my hair!!! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, February 23

1. Heard that awful cry from the neighbor’s dog only to step outside and see that it’s a different dog. A skinnier, hairless dog. Great…am I going to have to steal both of you now?
2. I love it… secret notes from a student’s parents.
3. Told my Wisdom class that I am not teaching at SLP anymore come next week. Got a mixture of different reactions…. Jack cried, Jinny put her head down in her lap, Jack cried, Joel looked confused, Jack cried, John made a “w” with his hands (he had no idea what I was talking about), Jack cried, and Kevin hit me…Ya, he hit me hard! Did I mention that Jack cried … so much!
4. Went on a report card writing marathon which left me with a sore hand and very tired eyes.
5. Out of eleven 9 year olds questioned (my Leo class), the number one answer as to what makes Korea such a great county was good food.
6. Found out that Dip & Dots have come to LotteMart… the real Dip & Dots, not like Yawoori’s cheesy wanna-be one!
7. Wallpapering party with Jenn… I was the “pasting girl”, she was the “scraper girl” and together we were the worst wallpapering team I’ve ever met! Even our jokes and cuteness couldn’t have saved our sloppy job!
8. After about 3 ½ hours of doing it wrong, we finally figured out how to do it properly. I know, I know… don’t quit our day jobs!
9. Consider tonight a success, not only did we eventually learn how to wallpaper but we also accepted the fact that we suck big time and learned a lot about each other with 4 hours of girl talk. Oh if these walls could talk!!!

10. Finally called it a night around 2:30am. Dragged my tired butt to the shower and had a real fun time trying shower out wallpaper paste from my hair!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How do they do it?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Ya, we suck.

I love the monkey but Curious George just doesn't cut it for me like when I was a little girl... now I'm all about the banana... Banana Man that is! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, February 22

1. Word has it that more teachers than expected are leaving now. Count is now up to seven!
2. Feels so good to know that this time next week I’ll be free of SLP and will be sitting in my new pimpin’ pad with my feet up and the hottie beside me enjoying our day off!
3. Really appreciated the helper teacher busting into the class and totally disregarding the fact that I’m teaching. I think she assumes I know fluent Korean cause she spared me no translation on something that turned out to be an important message.
4. Scored big time with the free bottles of Aspirin and Tylenol from Louis. I suppose if there were ever drugs to take than these would be the ones. Rather stay drug-free but this headache is too much.
5. Some men bring chocolates, others bring roses….my man… he surprised me with wallpaper paste and wallpaper. I walked into my apartment and there it lay on the floor. What a surprise! It was exactly what I needed (no sarcasm here!!!)
6. After realizing I haven’t learned nearly as much Korean as I had hoped this past year, created a study plan and spent two hours tonight studying Korean.
7. I love it… Ryan quotes my father even though the two have never met. I suppose he’s just heard so much about him that it’s like he has.
8. Celebrated our anniversary together even though it’s really not our anniversary but as Ryan says, “In the words of Mr. Berezowski, everyday is like our anniversary!”
9. Celebrated our “anniversary” (ha, ha, ha) and rainbow day at TGIF. Ryan and I always seem to get this one waitress who totally loves us up!
10. Still can't breathe through my nose... thanks John. Am totally convinced that this sneezing, runny nose, massive coughing mini-Korean from Wisdom class is the source of my yuckiness!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What is something you really want to learn?

Dropped by the kinder Leo class and go crowned Queen of the mini-Koreans! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, February 21

1. Woke up today gasping for air because my nostrils have seemed to fail me. Once again, the sneezing Wisdom mini-Koreans have gotten to me!
2. It’s official…. at 11 am today Ryan signed the contract and slapped down the 10 million won for the apartment! From now on I’m going to be a downtown girl… good bye Ssangyong-Dong, hello downtown. Totally excited about the big move.
3. Originally thought my elementary Glory girls were starting to discover themselves but it turns out they’re more fascinated with all the differences of my body. Today’s body part of fascination was my belly button.
4. Definitely going to miss Glory girl Betty and her amazing back rubs. She always seems to be satisfied with getting paid in stickers.
5. Stopped myself from making the Captain’s mini public power trip my business. Rooted “her” on though and gave her some words of advice for later.
6. Finally done the kinder report cards!
7. Hello ladies!!!! Canadian women’s hockey team kicked Sweden’s butt at the Olympics!
8. Must admit that as funny as my near death experience was, hanging on and still not having a seat on Ryan’s scooter was kind of scary.
9. Checked up on my new “baby” and it was beautiful. There I stood, with the courtyard all lit up, the pimpin’ pad perfectly located, and the beautiful guy on my arm. So exciting! Even discovered a way to get free rent..... awesome!
10. Beware…. I am the sock-o-nator!!! Today’s victim, Ryan and a pair of mix-matched Nike socks.

Here....take all my money. What do I care?! It's only chump change to me. Okay, I take that back.... now I'm a poor mofo! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, February 20

1. You know you’re going to have a rough day when your boss calling you is your alarm clock!
2. Oxford Seminar certificate finally arrived here in Korea. I checked the date of when it was sent…. February 16th… what’s up with that?! It’s interesting to note here how they insisted it was sent on the 6th of February but the date on it is TEN DAYS LATER.
3. Chatted online with Alish (my former roommate) and found myself competiting with her for most interesting picture. You won girl with the “backside” picture. Ha, ha, ha.
4. Shannon and Patty dropped by to check out my pad. Besides Jenn dropping by a couple of months ago, I can’t remember the last time someone besides Ryan made an appearance at my place.
5. Forced Ryan into meeting Shannon and Patty by having them hang around the house till he came. And oh ya Shannon, he thought your pants were really hot…. you’re so cute!
6. Found out what my bank account poured out into my hands looks like…found out what it’s like walking down the street with that too; nerve racking!
7. Ryan says I appear anti-social…but I am anti-social that’s the thing!
8. Not only did Ryan come and take all my money but he also got me to cook him something to eat…nice guy. Just jokes.
9. Much thanks to Ryan’s aunt who proved just how amazing family really can be! Ryan had a grin from ear to ear and even did a happy-dance in the middle of my street…. priceless!

10. Plan to have a wallpaper-party with Jenn this Thursday but only one problem, both of us don’t know how to wallpaper. This should be interesting!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you feel lucky today?

My Valentine's Day card to Ryan. My Korean needs some more work but I definitely meant well. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, February 19

1. Lunch at TGIF as usual. This time we scored free pickles and kimchi.
2. It’s official… Office-style apartment it is! Feels so good to have finally reached a decision and know that I will not be homeless in Korea.
3. Of course Ryan doesn’t wear “feminine products” and so when he agreed to pick me up some on his visit to Emart I had a good laugh with the fact that he brought a sample to make sure he got the right ones……ha, ha, ha.
4. Opps Ryan… were you serious about not wanting to be in my blog entries?!
5. Found myself in an argument about the American exchange rate and even called up Louis for back-up. Such a silly argument and it only ended because I refused to unplug my ears.
6. Admit it... you were wrong!
7. So sweet. Ryan gave me a Korean character writing book to help me with my written Korean. Is this a hint that my Korean written Valentine’s day card sucked?
8. How convinent, Ryan stole my piggy bank so that he could fill his piggy bank up. Nice…. do you steal your students’ candy too and then give it to them for prizes?!
9. Online furniture browsing. Found out I could get a custom made couch made for dirt cheap! Awesome!
10. Optimistic about the idea that this time next week I will be hopefully moved into my new apartment!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How can you admit you're wrong when you think you're so right?

My partner in crime taking a rest... get up! Time to find me an apartment, nah, let the guy sleep! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, February 18

1. I’s been exactly a year now since I landed in DYNAMIC KOREA!
2. Realized that there hasn’t been a day that’s gone by where I ever wished I wasn’t here in Korea. I love Korea!
3. Duncan…. just leave!!! A year ago I took a leap of faith and left everything only to gain everything! My words of advice to you my friend is to JUST DO IT.
4. Just when we thought we were so sure on the new apartment, along came an opening at the office-style building. It is so great and the view is super.
5. Greatly disappointed with Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds” which ended with, well, no real ending. That’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back.
6. Oh my gosh…. my boyfriend sings New Kids on the Block songs!
7. Oh my gosh…. I know all the words to the New Kids on the Block songs he’s singing!
8. Oh my gosh…. I actually have a favorite New Kids on the Block song, this is sad!
9. Ryan busted his butt house-hunting and made it really easy for me. When he found one he’d call me, pick me up, and then off we’d fly to check it out. Thanks for making things super easy for me!
10. Felt super suspicious handing the lady at Kimboop Nada a note with take-out instructions. Not only did everyone look at me but then she had a good giggle.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What's one thing you like but would never admit to it?

I have NO idea who the strange dude on the right is but I must admit I do like L-Girl and Silly-Boy D. Louise and I were suppose to be dog walking partners until she lost her dog and I got rid of mine. As for Darren, he's is a good guy who always surprises me with what he says, hmmmm. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, February 17

1. Slept in and so Mr. Lee wasn’t impressed with me not showing up for Hanna’s
tutoring. Totally didn’t mean to do it but I had forgotten to set my alarm clock on my cell.
2. Rolled my ankle in gym class and oh ya it felt real great!
3. Told Ariel in my elementary Virgo class that she’s Ariel the mermaid from the Disney movie but she’s missing her bikini top. Totally shocked though when she flashed me her training bra! She was so casual about it too.
4. Informed all my elementary class students that I am leaving SLP come March. My Glory girl Betty got upset and so I felt bad.
5. Sat in the staff room and had an interesting “girl talk” with the two new Korean teachers about Korean people… well, mainly Ryan.
6. Mr. Lee announced in the staff room that he loves me….hmmm. Interesting.
7. Finally celebrated Valentine's Day with Ryan. Celebrated it the "Korean way" with a chocolate cake, chocolates and even a hand written Korean card. It was a simple and cute celebration but I must admit, I think my written Korean needs some more work. I tried though.

8. I came, I saw, I left…. got persuaded by Ryan to show up at the local Westerner’s watering-hole and figure that showing my face there for the hour means I get out of having to do that for another
9. Still am confused as to why so many Korean people are fasinated by Westerners. Personally, I can’t stand them…. well the majority of them that is.
10. Got upset over spilt milk…. and not because it was banana milk but because…. well, never mind.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What are you looking at?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself.

Girls night out for the celebration of homegirl Jenn's birthday. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, February 16

1. Wore a short skirt to school and it brought me compliments from coworkers and curiosity from all those under 3 feet. It apparently was the fascination among my Wisdom boys whose hands were mysteriously drawn to my white Polish skin!!!
2. Amy from the kinder Peace class looked up my skirt and blirted out to everyone what color I was wearing. Thanks.
3. Spent my whole morning trying not to stand remotely close to Wisdom Charles who had snuck up and tried to grab my underwear! No matter where I went, he’d try to sneak up on me. He hunted me down in the bathroom, the teachers’ room, Dream classroom, and even in an empty classroom where I hid from him!
4. Had to distance myself, literally, from my Glory girls who tried all class to pull my skirt down and somewhat succeeded in that they saw the top of my underwear! I told them I’d take 20 stickers from them but then realized just they just had market day and so they only have a few.
5. Gutted out my apartment of as much junk as I could spare and then packed up most of the other stuff.
6. Supper tonight consisted of me ordering kimbob and then running into Ryzkyo outside my building. I felt so bad for him and he looked lonely so I gave him my meal .
7. No word yet about my visa run trip to Japan. Time is ticking and I’m getting a bit nervous about all I have to do before I start this new job.
8. Went out with my homegirl (the Birthday girl) Jenn and Irene. Had a good laugh at Irene’s banana-girl character and Jenn’s usual silliness.
9. Remanised with the girl’s about the fact that it was there (Mbar) that I had first met Ryan. I’m sure they were all entertained by my cute story.
10. Being a foreigner always seems to attract attention… tonight’s foreigner-fans were some dudes who thought they’d impress me with chugging a full mug of beer. So unattractive to say the least!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Have you noticed anything different yet?

And here he is.... Ryzyko. He's my beautiful little neighbor that got attacked by some drunken fool last night.... even Dave heard his cries from the next street over!!!!! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, February 15

1. Ratted out Oxford Seminars for their major delay in getting me my overly-priced certificate reprint. Her reasoning when I called was that their shipment of certificate paper got stopped at the border. May I remind you that she’s from a country (Canada) that is bountiful with trees. Sounds like a whole lot of bs to me!
2. Got an early morning wake up call from a certain someone who thought it’d be “sweet” to walk down memory lane at like 4am!!!
3. Decided I didn’t want to tutor today and so I texted the Big Guy that I slept in. Better watch what I say because that’s exactly what ended up happening. Woke up with 15 minutes to get to my first class!!!
4. Seems like everybody is slacking off large lately! At snack time our kinder helper teachers weren’t really of help. Walked in on them eating while all the students sat waiting for a snack. It was only out of guilt that they then tossed some cookies in a bowl for the kids. Thanks ladies.
5. Today’s lunch consisted of me going down to the Kimbob Nada and ordering take-out and then if that wasn’t bad enough that I had to buy a lunch, I then got in trouble with the helper teachers for not asking for egg fry. Sorry but making a meal out of rice, kimchi and seaweed just doesn't do anything for me.
6. Gotta love my Glory girls! Cherry’s mom is lovin’ our class and so she sent Cherry to school with a massive bag of goodies…. bags of chocolate, yogurt drinks, chips, nachos, and even some fruit! What an incrediable sweetie!
7. Market day today for my elementary Leo and Virgo class and so I was bombarded with overjoyed students cause it meant their tests were postponed. Now, as much as I like getting free stuff and not having to plan any lessons, I must admit that I still like test days over Market Day…. by far!
8. Waited NINE hours in suspense for word about the apartment and when I finally got word it totally killed my evening.

9. Discovered why people give chocolate… it’s because when the curse of Valentines happens, like it always does, and Valentine’s ends disappointingly, you can always find comfort in chocolate.
10. Spent the rest of my evening hanging out with one of the chicken dudes for a bit while we tried to comfort the neighbor’s dog who practically got the snot kicked out of him. Convinced I may steal this dog and find a proper owner if I find out that it’s that dirty dude’s dog. Renamed the little dog Ryzyko (Polish). Such a sad but beautiful dog.

1. Celebrated Valentine’s Day with my Wisdom class and a table covered in chocolate. I’m sure I sent 2/3 of them home with tummy aches!
2. Got lots of cute Valentine’s Day cards from my students. I especially liked Wisdom Jinny’s card that read, “I am so happy with you. You and me love”. Terry from Dream class wrote me a Valentine’s letter written in Korea; he meant well even if I don't know what it says.
3. Market day for my elementary Glory class. My girls were the richest ones there and it’s a good thing too because prices have definitely inflated!
4. Had to laugh when Ellie helped me steal an item from Market Day. She was my accomplice. Even funnier was the fact that her husband, the Big Guy, caught us in the act!
5. Taught Clara’s class the “five finger discount”… as a joke of course.
6. Scary…. to think, a year ago today I was proposed to. I will forever be greatfull to God for putting in my mind my move to Korea! Got bless Korea!
7. Downloaded some New Kids on the Block so that I at least have some songs on my computer that he likes…. don’t deny it! You’re my popsicle, I’m your cover girl!
8. Spent my evening with the much loved “Phantom of the Opera”, on the tv it is.
9. To think this time last year I was getting proposed to and here I am today in love with a Korean superhero, …. Yoon!

10. Still haven’t celebrated a holiday with Ryan on the actual holiday.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What is love to you?

As I look forward to starting my new position, the countdown continues and so my time with my kids is slowly coming to an end.
It's going to be incrediably hard to say good-bye to my kids!!!Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, February 13

1. And the countdown at work continues…
… 15 days until I leave SLP
… 11 working days, 4 weekend days
… 11 more early mornings hoping Hanna will show up for tutoring
… 84 more classes + 11 more tutoring sessions = 95 more lessons!!!

... 1 more paycheck to go!
It really sucks that my countdown is now what motivates me to work!
2. Woke up and called my father to wish him a happy birthday…, he’s no longer sweet 16 and never been kissed but he still sure is sweet. Happy Birthday dad!
3. Was dying all day to tell Spazzy-K that I love the blue hair. It screams.... hmmm, never mind.
4. At the realization that I am so eager to throw out a mean comment to Spazzy-K, I totally agree with Dave that our friendship can never be fixed. It’s way beyond that now.
5. Still no sight of my TESOL certificate that was suppose to come a week ago today! New Korean teachers showed up today and so the faces of SLP are changing.
6. Thanks for the reminder Dave… I know I haven’t updated my blog since Thursday. You’re not the only one that’s jumped on my back about it… looks like readership is at an all-time high! Good stuff.
7. Sweet… got my pay stub fixed and now I can rest easier!
8. Awkward moment at the front desk when I tried to get Kris to secretly fax my final documents for my Asan job and Ellie (the Big Guy’s wife) walked in on us. Ellie ended up faxing it for me but I don’t think she understood what she was faxing.
9. Relaxed this evening and watched some super cheesy survival show. Found myself cheering on the girl that cries 24/7 on the show.
10. Caved in and found myself making all my kindergarteners Valentine’s cards.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What would the word trust be if it was a 4 letter word?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
It seems to me that if there were any logic to our language, trust would be a four letter word.

Lots of hugs and kisses to the Birthday boy in Canada.... my dad!!! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, February 12

1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!! Although you’re no longer sweet sixteen and never been kissed, you definitely are one fine man!
2. Realized that this is time I’ve ever not seen my dad for his birthday….ahhhhh.
3. Had TGIF for lunch and the place was packed with numerous couples celebrating Valentine’s Day early. Our waitress felt so bad because we had to wait and she knew we are regulars so she sent us home with 6 loafs of bread. Now that’s a lot of bread, what am I Italian now?!
4. Showed how stubborn I can be when I refused to change my boots before we went house hunting. Went house hunting in style… black leather stilettos baby!
5. Visited several stinky apartments today on in the grand search for a new home but we did discover a great apartment not too far from Ryan’s place. I think it’s perfect.

6. Tonight's speality at the "House of Ryan" consisted of a can of tuna, curry, leftovers from TGIF (chicken salad), and rammian noodles. And it wouldn't be Korean if it didn't have rice so of course we had rice!
7. Ryan’s so dead-set on finding a wicked apartment that he’s even started a database of info on the numerous places we’ve visited and called. What a guy!
8. Took a video of Ryan and it was so incredibly cute how nervous he was just to say a few lines.
9. Tonight’s feature film was a twisted Korean video about a girl that seeks revenge on the guy who made her take the blame for a murder. See a common trend with these Korean movies in that they’re all somewhat twisted.

10. Went to bed on a sweet note with the realization that it’s been a year since I’ve been to the dentist…I’m lovin’ it!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Which came first, the chicken or the egg.

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

It's a bird... it's a plane.... NO, it's the new Korean kimchi burger! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, February 11

1. Ventured all the way to Seoul to drop off my Asan contract, only to find out that I still need to add two things to my application and I could have mailed it!
2. It’s official… I’m now a public school teacher employed by the city of Asan. Forget about this hagwan business, viewing kids as dollar signs is just not for me.
3. Got big compliments from my agent’s coworker and definitely have to agree with her about Ryan.
4. Traveled around Seoul in an overly crowded subway and definitely admit I liked it! Made for an interesting ride.
5. Hmmm, crowded subways…. I’m lovin’ it! Ha, ha, ha… don’t you agree Ryan?
6. News flash…. just when you thought Korea couldn’t possibly eat more kimchi, McDonalds has come up with the KIMCHI BURGER! Ya, like I’ll be lining up for that… nasty.
7. Upon returning to Cheonan, Ryan and I went house hunting and scored a chance at possibly renting a office-style apartment. Great!
8. Relived a part of my childhood with having to bundle up and wear two layers for tonight’s bike ride. Felt like a blow-up doll on the back of Ryan’s scooter.
9. Despite my sad cooking skills, I was right on the money with the milk. I remember my mom always using milk instead of water and so today’s mushroom soup was wicked! Mind you, maybe we should have added some more water because it was more like paste as oppose to soup.
10. Computer got fixed today and so our movie nights resumed tonight. Tonight’s featured film was “Along came Polly”.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you like the subway?

Wisdom has invaded Korea!!! We're cute; we're armed with English; we're hyperactive; and we're only 2 feet tall! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, February 10

1. Well surprise, surprise… Hanna showed up today before me. She had her homework done, all her books, a breakfast snack for me and her mom even sent a lip gloss for me. You can never have too much lip gloss!
2. Got caught empty handed in the bathroom with no toilet paper and had to wait for a kinder kid to come to my rescue. Thankfully Jinny clued into the fact that I was taking too long.
3. Am convinced Julie in my elementary Leo class is obsessed with my butt.
4. Got my paycheck stub and the grand total was so low that had I had to force myself not to have a panic attack for the mere fact that my sad paycheck wouldn’t be able to even cover my possible medical bill. Definitely a problem here.
5. Due to the fact that I’m not renewing my contract I now have to pay back half the plane ticket and all those missed days of school. I loved seeing my family and Andi and no offence but Canada was definitely not worth the $1,700 it cost me.
6. Trying to track down my pictures at Emart and then my cell phone made for a very frustrating evening in addition to the socking ending I experienced at work.
7. Realized just how much I do not like shopping when I was forced to waste 40 minutes while my picture developed at Emart.
8. Called it quits on any possible social plans and opted to stay in and study my Korean.
9. Gutted out my closet of clothes and discovered some items I didn’t know I had bought. Realized just how much clothes I have actually have bought while in Korea. I think I’ve doubled my wardrobe since last February.
10. Late night delivery of ice cream… Not only has Ryan clued into the fact that ice cream is the way to my heart but it’s also a very effective way to make amends for any silliness.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What pushes the button for you?

This is the worksheet that SLP has in the workbook for my students....it looks innocent but is rather disturbing actually. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, February 9

1. Sitting in the staff knowing that this time yesterday I was expecting to be sitting at the middle school today discussing a contract really sucked!
2. I’m convinced that I’m more eager to have Hanna learn English than even her own mother. Like a fool, I went in early in hopes that she’d prove me wrong and show up. Turns out I’m definitely more eager cause her mother didn’t even so much call to tell me see wasn’t coming. Correction… she called, at 9:50am.
3. Terrible… while traveling along his route and picking up the students our much beloved bus driver #2 (my absolute favorite) hit an old woman at the crosswalks.
4. Played “Korean team vrs. English team” with Dream class, like I do every week. I’ve been teaching them some funny slogans that we’ve associated with the competition. The best of the slogans was “You’re going down” and “I’ll see you next week for a rematch, make it worth it!”
5. I (the Korean team) won this week with the phrase “Di jin da” (translation… you are going to die). It was a bad win, I know.
6. Played “telephone” with Steve and the Big Guy in regards to where I’ll be teaching in March. I knew very well that what I said would go in one ear, out the next ear and into another’s ear but I didn’t think it’d score me a seat in his office.
7. Got called into the Big Guy’s office and had an interesting chat with him. Went in so sure of myself and yet left honestly feeling like I had just broken up with a boyfriend.
8. Turns out the lady bus driver #2 hit on route has blood on her brain and thus a slim chance of surviving. When I left the Big Guy’s office I ran into bus driver #2 in the front lobby of SLP. My heart totally went out to him and I wanted to hug him. All I could think of was how this changed everything for him and his family.
9. After dealing with drama all day at work, I then ran into the drama queens of all drama queens… “Her”. Now there’s a girl who’s always ready at the flick of a dime when it comes to getting involved drama. She makes even my life seem boring!
10. Came home to the realization that in my haste to make it to work on time, I had forgotten to turn off the heat. Yuck! Cooked fried eggs on the floor…just joking.

QUESTION OF THE DAY…
What’s wrong with this picture?

Us Beres thugging it out in good old W-Town. It's funny just how similar our sense of humor is! Good stuff. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, February 8

1. Discovered that I CAN iron my pants while still wearing them.
2. Once again, no Hanna. 1-2-3 strikes…. you’re outta here!
3. Almost got the wind knocked out of me by a mini Korean (Wisdom John) who decided to jab me right in the top of my chest cavity where the ribs part. One question, who is teaching this little guy these moves! Turns out that this particular sensitive part of your chest cavity, if broken, can kill you…yikes!
4. Had a very interesting not to mention very comical chat on msn with some very “productive” coworkers (won’t mention any names). I had invited them all into the one screen, even invited my brother in New York. Laughs by all but I think we’re still a bit disturbed about Rob’s naked comment. Ha, ha, ha! Good times.
5. Played verb bingo with my elementary Virgo class and totally cheated (in Adrian’s favor) just to avoid drama. This must be what his parents feel like!!!
6. Picked up my results from yesterday’s medical exam. Here are some interesting results:

  • i. Think I’m legally blind…my score for my eye sight was low and I even cheated (wore lenses). Either I’m as blind as a bat, these LotteMart lenses suck or she was confused with my English answers.
ii. weigh less than I though….. great!
iii. Grown only 1 cm since grade 11….well at least I’m not srinking, or am I?
iv. My blood sugar level is low and so I’m just short of being diabetic.
    v. Hearing is perfect….hmmm, no. Did I forget to mention yesterday that I cheated on that too?! Ya, because of a field hockey incident my hearing in my left ear is a bit off.
vi. Discovered that I’ve got the best blood type (type O), according to Koreans that is. Koreans believe that blood type O people have the best personalities.
vii. Negative…..? After the previous results, I’m too scared to ask.

7. Revenge of the machines. Today not only did my computer spaze out and crash but my cell phone decided that it was going to freeze while I was taking a picture. I won’t tell you who the subject was…. ha, ha, ha.
8. Tasted the worst Korean food at restaurant that was thriving with customers. Even Ryan admitted to their total lack of ability to cook. Even the rice sucked!
9. I love it…Korea’s way of dealing with massive snow is umbrellas and putting blankets on the ground but what’s up with the lack of concern for the sidewalks?
10. Total disappointment with the indecisiveness with the Middle school in Cheonan.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Will THIS be on the blog?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Shannon is 12.......sorry, in Korean age she's 13.

Today's list of events included a big morning snowfall, the kindergarten birthday bash and running into an old gym buddy, Ji Hyong. Posted by Picasa
