As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

This picture was actually taken yesterday. We were suppose to break-in the couple helmets today but that was a no-go. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, April 30

1. Trip to Daejon cancelled and I’m still trying to figure why.
2. Not impressed with Ryan’s decision to cancel the trip and so I decided that I wasn’t going to let him spoil my day. I left the house and went in search of my own fun.
3. Ran into the girl at the “Skin Food” store downtown. Apparently her and her fellow staff friends all know me as the “lip gloss girl”… I’m addicted to that stuff and admit I’ve got quite the extended collection.
4. Swapped numbers with the Skin Food girl, Ji Eun. She’s really interested in learning English and so she’s looking for an English friend. What the heck, I’ve got nothing to lose and plus it meant I scored major samples today.
5. Today’s weather was so amazingly beautiful but it only served to make me more mad at Ryan for cancelling our drive to Daejon.
6. Humoured a small crowd of Koreans with my ability to tell off four most annoying brown guys who thought that I’d be cool with them swarming me at the mall bench area. They’re lucky Tasha wasn’t here … she’d hapkido their sorry butts!
7. Hoping it wasn’t too obvious that I was there alone… ran into one of my middle school students at the movie theatre and so I told him I was looking for my boyfriend. I think he knew by the look on my face that I was there alone.
8. Treated myself to Danzel Washington’s new movie “Inside Man”. He was awesome, as usual.
9. Capped off the evening with dinner for one at my house while Ryan played on the computer. I think it was pretty obvious to him that I was still upset. Can’t say he didn’t deserve it though.
10. Still trying to figure out who’s more stubborn… Ryan or me.

I love the market... who would have thought a market could be so interesting and so fun. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, April 29

1. Thought Ryan would like my super girly new jacket. Turns out he thinks it resembles the same one his GRANDMA wears…. ya, thanks.
2. Our couple helmets came in!!!
3. In Ryan’s excitement to crack open the box to see the helmets he accidentally scratched one with the knife. Such an eager little cutie!
4. Rather dangerous but so funny… thought it fun to take pictures of Ryan and his new helmet as we were driving… ha, ha, ha. Ya, I’m sure that the passing traffic thought that was rather strange. Ha, ha, ha. Lots of laughs though.
5. Visited the Korean traditional market and visited our strawberry lady again. Lately I’ve been eating my weight in strawberries….I’m addicted!
6. Got the inside secret on the strawberries by the strawberry lady…. shhhhh, I can’t tell you!
7. Apparently there’s a man that comes once in awhile on weekends, selling pets. Today’s selection included baby chicks, quail, bunnies, and ducklings. I begged Ryan to go in on with me for two baby ducks but he said he’d think about it…. which really means “let’s see if you’ll remember them next week”. Beware…. I will remember!
8. Oh the things I would do if there was no consequence. After forgetting my camera at the restaurant, I went back for it but the one lady said it wasn’t there. I knew for a fact I left it on the table. In my head I saw myself picking up the chopsticks and doing some funky kung fu, kama-kazi throw. So I asked again. This time she changed her answer…. she’s lucky. I’ve got good aim.
9. Am convinced Ryan taught that silly dude doing that stupid dance (commercial) how exactly to do that dance. He’s got it down to an art. Those living in Korea, oh you KNOW what commercial I’m talking about. Ha, ha, ha.
10. Movie night… “Mission Impossible”.

Out to celebrate Darren's birthday... you know Ryan, Darren, and then two new people I met... Aimee and Justin. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, April 28

1. My Friday elementary kids had to do some school stretching and marching activity outside and so they came to class 40mins late.
2. I’m lovin’ my parent’s class… or should I say mother’s class?! Today the ladies brought yogurt and muffins. We sat around chatting about my relationship with Ryan and how I want to learn Korean. These ladies rock!
3. So cute… the ladies in my parent’s class wrote a note to Ryan asking him when they can all take me and him out for dinner.
4. Dang…. right as I stepped up onto the sidewalk I had realized that I left my cell phone in my co-worker’s car. Nuts!
5. Only because I know Ryan’s come along for the ride when he really didn’t want to, I agreed to go tonight. So off we went to Darren’s party. I like Darren, he’s cool but his guest list…not so cool.
6. Thought it’d be quick and painless, like ripping off a bandaid. Called for back-up, my homegirl Jenn, but she wasn’t feeling good and so I was in on this alone.
7. Surprisingly, the night started off quite fun. I met this cool chic, Aimee, and her friend Justin. They were pretty funny and so it was a good time.... then things changed.
8. Turns out the Scottish Idiot reads my blog… and ya, I think I’ll keep that name for ya cause it’s kind of catchy. He had no idea who I was at first and so that was rather amusing.

9. Turns out Darren’s guest list also included the dude we had the “pleasure” of sitting beside at the restaurant the other day. Ya, that was uncomfortable.
10. Highlight of my night was leaving. Ryan treated me to spicy beef at like 2:30am.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Are you for real?

D-Boy and his boy Martin. D-Boy's the one sporting the grin and the white shirt. Two cuties on the town... I smell trouble! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, April 27

1. Schedule changes again…oh, I LOVE IT! …. can you tell I’m sarcastic?
2. Mrs. Chung told me she was taking me out for dinner and my first reaction was “Oh my gosh…. what did I do wrong. What does she want to tell me that she has to take me away from witnesses”. No worries though. I think she just wanted to treat me to a good dose of girl talk.
3. Got frustrated with George in my 1-2 middle school class after I repeatedly told him to stop tossing around his eraser. And then it happened…. I got hit! Everyone looked for my reaction and so I picked up the massive block of rubber and threw it as far as I could out the window!!!
4. The weather was so beautiful today and so for my ePALS club meeting I held it outside on the school benches. It was great but the China yellow sand was a bit too much for my contact lenses.
5. Got called a “pyoung tae” by Ryan in my 2-2 class. He said I looked like “pyoung tae… adult movie”. I really had no idea what that meant. I thought it meant I was sexy or something. Some of the girls tried to translate but I just couldn’t understand their Konglish.
6. Turns out Ryan in class 2-2 had called me a pervert. I suppose he was getting me back for calling him a “byoung shin” (retard)… he of course knew I was joking but I think he gets kicks out of knowing I’ll go home and use the new word on Yoonbeer. That’s good for a few good beatings there Ryan!
7. Had to admit to a 6 year old that I was wrong and she was right. So, I had to give Sue 1000 won for the beat I lost from last week…. the whole “liger” thing. I just didn’t believe here but she was right.
8. Only in Korea would you see three dudes on one scooter with no helmets and driving on the sidewalk…. this definitely is the flipside!
9. Totally exhausted tonight so Ryan made supper. Thanks sweetie. He had ordered some Japanese spices and soup and so they arrived today. Awesome!
10. Watched the Disney movie “Anastasia” tonight and was really disappointed that I had stayed up to watch it. That’s two hours less sleep I’ll get tonight!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Are you slacking off, too?

Five of my overly hyper grade 5 boys.... Sean, Colby, Zealot, Dragon, and Alexander (glasses). I'm convinced they eat spoonfuls of sugar before they're sent to me! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, April 26

1. Took the bus to school for the first time.
2. Embarassed myself at the bus stop when I approached three girls whom I could have sworn were from my school. I pinched the one girl, kind of hard too, but when she turned around I had NO idea who she was. I tried to act as if I hadn’t done it though…. I don’t think she bought it. Yikes!
3. Shim shim hae yo…. translation: I’m bored. I taught my elementary classes today and then had to kill 3 hours before my last class and home time. Thank God for the internet. Mix that with a dash of creativity on my behalf and voila…. time’s up!
4. Only two attended my English class for the teachers…. the P.E. teacher and my school principle. The P.E. teacher intimidates me a bit and the principle, well, he’s my principle and so that in itself is kind of intimidating.
5. Not too sure if Mr. Science Guy’s pink pin striped suit is hot or not…. it’s definitely Korean though!
6. Today was the first day ANYONE at my new downtown gym said anything to me. Mr. Tough guy walked over, checked out my routine and then when he opened his mouth out came this really girly voice… totally unexpected!
7. Dinner date with the man at TGIF. Tonight was there last Rainbow Night and so I got all dressed up… even wore a skirt.
8. Of all the empty seats in the restaurant, the waitress just had to sit this American freak behind me. He was there with some Korean girl and I hope, for her sake, that he’s not her boyfriend.
9. Shocked the American dude who sat behind me at the restaurant. He had a bad case of diarea of the mouth. He’s got more #$%@ coming out his mouth than his butt. But, when he realized I was a Western girl with a Korean man, he pretty much was cured. I’m hoping his dinner date (pretty Korean girl) didn’t understand half of the pathetic and pointless things he spoke about.
10. Talk about a blast from the past…. Dudgeon the Curmudgeon emailed me. I haven’t talked to him for almost 6 years probably. I love how he calls me “Spazowski”… always makes me laugh.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...

Today we had a little staff celebration for the P.E. teacher's birthday. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, April 25

1. Just couldn’t drag my butt out of the bed in time and so I had to cab it to work. My principle saw me getting out of the taxi and he wasn’t impressed…. with Mr. S that is! I don’t know all that was said but he didn’t look at me all day and then it was silence in the car ride home!
2. Too much jokes with my 2-2 class. This is my favorite class and probably my most unproductive! We spent a good part of the class explaining various Korean words I had picked up on the subway.
3. Was told some of the girls in my 2-2 class are jealous cause I give some of the boys my attention. Sorry but the extent of your English is “Hi”, basically, and you never seem to have anything funny to say. I love funny people.
4. Directed ALL my attention to the whining 2-2 class girls and I think it was a bit of Ms. B overdose for them.
5. Rumours are flying around and today I found the answer…. yes, it’s true. They do use human waste for their crops! I smelt it…. I think I smelt a hint of kimchi too! Ha, ha, ha!
6. Ryan’s in denial about the human waste issue… maybe it’s because he’s the MAIN SUPPLIER!!! Ha, ha, ha!!!
7. Found a jazz dance academy down the street from me…. hmmm, ideas are rolling now!
8. The Korean Cy World’s got nothing on MySpace…. with over 73,000,000 members no wonder it was easy for “D” to find me!
9. Keep that up and your face is going to stay like that Ryan!
10. Damm Japanese…. we don’t like you but your spices are awesome. Thanks for the spices, now go away.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do I look like I care?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Pick me, pick me, pick me, pick me, pick ME!

Hey Patrick... you're not the only one that's going to miss her! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, April 24

1. I just LOVE it when it’s already an important day and then they tell me the schedule has changed and so I have class in like 2 minutes. This time I said no. “You can’t do this to me today!” So, someone else taught the class, sweet. It meant I was able to have that expected prep time and taught one less class!
2. Today the supervisors from the Ed Office came. They announced their arrival and as we all (staff) nervously stood up they came walking in and I started giggling!!! Turns out the man I’m suppose to be so nervous to meet, well, we’ve already met! I met him about 3 weeks ago in the school yard where we talked about boxing. At the time I had no idea who he was.
3. I knew I had nothing to lose with the supervisor attending my class. In class we were talking about sports and so he was lovin’ it!
4. Watched a slideshow of the male teachers, VP, and principle’s winter trip to Jeju Island. Only in Korea would the commentary for a sloppy picture be “sorry… all of us were really drunk and I had constapation all day.” Who says this stuff… really?! Apparently the Koreans do. No secrets, ha, ha, ha!
5. Went out for supper with all the Eumbong staff and even the head supervisor, my buddy. Amused the men with my ability to do numerous “one shot” and amused the women with my secret of shots of water! Ha, ha, ha!
6. A serious chat with Ryan about Canada (trip, life, work) turned rather amusing…
“If you get married to a Canadian than you don’t have to worry about a visa”
”Hmmm…. your brother Robbie? …Ya, I like the facial hair.”
“It’s legal. My country would marry you two!”
7. In a matter of two days Ryan and I have pretty much eaten our weight in strawberries!
8. OH MY GOSH…. read today that my homegirl Jenn is leaving South Korea! Now I’ll have to represent Durham Region on my own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. Had a sad moment at the realization that some of my friends have moved back to their countries, some are soon leaving, and that’s how South Korea will always be…. people moving.

10. No comment on the rest of my night… :(

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
When does the moving stop?

Cruising the local traditional Korean market with my boo. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, April 23

1. Bad hair day!
2. Sleeping patterns are totally messed up still from Friday!
3. Seriously curious about getting my driver’s license… by this time next year I plan on cruising down the streets of Cheonan on my 4-wheeler!
4. Amused myself by making faces to the starring onlookers as Ryan and I flew through the streets of Cheonan…. there, now you really have something to stare at!
5. Visited the traditional Korean market again but this time we strolled down and saw it all… including the town old drunks who, among the three of them, downed a whole bottle of soju in 1 minute!
6. Text message marathon AGAIN with Kim Sung Hoon… turns out he’s Mr. Pushy Pants and he just won’t go away!!!
7. Speak of the devil…. was just complaining about Science Guy and his suspicious excuses why he randomly can’t drive me when all of a sudden he text messaged me. He can’t drive me tomorrow… what a surprise.
8. Am convinced Science Guy’s real nickname is “Mr. Back Window”…. a young guy with a new girlfriend who lives in Asan. It’d take a long time to drive back to Cheonan for me and then back track to Asan… ya, that’s right. I think he’s having secret “sleepover parties” (she lives with her parents). It’s the only way I see that justifies his sketching behaviour and numerous excuses.
9. Contemplating my options for my summer holidays…. visit Canada, volunteer in the southern part of South Korea, work at the summer English camps and make mad cash… or go somewhere secluded and away from it all? Maybe I could fly in Robbie… cool!
10. Tonight’s feature was “The Forgotten”. I’ve seen it before but I loved the fact that the dvd offered an extended version with an alternative ending. Cool.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How could you have let me out of the house looking like this?

I think me and Trin were the lookouts for our stop while these guys slept.... there's a third one too but he slept in a corner seat. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, April 22

1. Left the club at 5:30am and headed to Gangnam subway for the first train of the day. Man, I’m too old for this stuff!
2. Slept most of the way on the freezing subway. And I thought being a white foreigner got looks, Trin and his buddies definitely got looks!!! Finally made it home at 8am and crashed.
3. Didn’t wake up till about 6 pm. Woke up and my feet were still so sore. Stelletto heels are definitely not dancing shoes.
4. Foot massage from Ryan… nice!
5. Text messages ALL DAY from Kim Sung Hoon…. I had met him yesterday but am not too sure on which Korean he was. Don’t get me wrong, I gave out a friend’s number instead of my own but I know a couple of them got my number when I forgot my cell on the table and walked away. I hope he’s not Mr. Pushy-Pants cause his buddy ended up pushing him in attempt to get him to stop forcing himself on me. Hopefully it’s Mr. Nice Guy cause well, he’s Mr. Nice Guy, no explanation needed.
6. Hadn’t eaten anything for over 26 hours and so I was starting to get sick. Ryan was craving porraige and so we ventured out to Ssangyong-Dong to this wicked porrage restaurant we like. After about 5 spoonfuls I was full.
7. I’m convinced that my all-nighter cardio workout made me lose 5 pounds and it shrunk my tummy. No more baby Buddha belly.
8. Scored big on the strawberries at the local traditional Korean market. Awesome!
9. Eat your pickled garlic Ryan!
10. Movie night with my man, a huge bowl of strawberries and ice cream…. life is sweet!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Who you calling "stinky bum"?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
A recent survey stated that the average person's greatest fear is having to give a speech in public. Somehow this ranked even higher than death which was third on the list. A night out on the town... in crowded Seoul. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, April 21

1. Last week I didn’t wear socks to Eumbong Elementary class because well, I don’t like them. So, this week Mr. Funny-Pants Teacher brought me socks…. couple socks. Ha, ha, ha.
2. I don’t know what the heck they tried to pass off to me at lunch as chicken but it didn’t even resemble an animal. It looked like some kind of skin twisted around some huge bone. Ya, like I’m touching that!!!
3. My VP text messaged the parents in my after school adult class and apparently is quite the joker. He called himself “playboy” in his messages.
4. Mr Playboy VP tried to convince me to ditch the work and play ping-pong…. did I ever tell you I love my job?!!! And oh ya,…. he treated us all to ice cream! Cool!
5. Ventured to Songtan where I met up with my buddy Trin… my BIG buddy. He bartends at a local club when he’s not on military time. He tried hard to make me feel comfortable but being the only non-military personnel and the only white chic made me kind of stand out like a sore thumb…. to say the least.
6. Grabbed a cab and off me, Trin and three of Trin’s boys headed to Seoul. I was rather surprised that we arrived there alive after Trin’s boy kept on ticking off the taxi driver. Dude… you’re NOT suppose to touch his meter. I had to laugh though cause hearing the taxi driver abuse the phrase “shut up” was just too funny. He used it for every response possible!
7. Checked out a club downtown Seoul, Gangnam area. It’s funny but I felt much more comfortable surrounded by a crowd of Koreans.
8. Turns out a lot of Korean men at this club love Western women…. I was a huge hit. It was pretty funny and I met a lot of people but two guys literally ended up fighting over me.
9. Got looked after by these four Korean dudes (Jung and his friends) who were loving the fact that I was trying hard to speak Korean.

10. Pulled an all-nighter at the club because well, we had too. Where were we going to go? All trains had stopped for the night.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What did I just get myself into?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Shut up!

I agree with Ryan, this is God's territory. I can understand experimenting for means of finding cures for cancer and AIDS but this is just out of human's selfish curiousity, as far as we're concerned. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, April 20

1. Jokes with Chloe and Ryan in my 2-2 class. They’re all about girls and so they were on this rambage today asking me all these questions about girls. They seem to have this impression that my English class is health class.
2. Assigned homework to my hyper-active, totally noisy class 1-2. They had to go home and look up the word “punk”. After getting frustrated with them I told them “I didn’t come miles and miles to your country only to teach punks”. They were clueless and so it became homework. 3. After dealing with super hyper 1-2 class, I then taught class 3-1 with a very low patience. And so when they wouldn’t stop talking I decided I was done teaching the class. Well, that’s when they all started to apologizing. “I’m sorry Ms.B, come here, come teach me. Me be good student”. I wasn’t really mad so I felt bad for them apologizing so much. I explain the similarities to them with them and my boyfriend and was totally embarrassed and went beat read. I realized how silly our little spats really are.
4. Made every student in class 3-1 pinky-swear they wouldn’t tell their friends that my face turned cherry red.
5. After telling all my ePAL members my devious ways of my younger days, I’m now convinced that my innocent looks are just that, looks. That worked for me in the past, now I’m a “changed person”…ya, okay.
6. While hanging with Sue, I was rather distracted by the moving men bringing in what Sue’s mom bought on their “little” shopping spree in Seoul. This lady has expensive taste to say the least, it’s incrediable. Some people just have too much money? I wish that was my problem! Ha, ha, ha.
7. So cool. Sue got some robot delivered from Hong Kong. We spent some time playing with it and trained it how to burb! Ha, ha, ha.
8. While discussing favourite animals with Sue, she said her new favourite animal is the “liger”. She claims it’s father is a lion and it’s mother is a tiger but I was convinced that she had made it up. So, I told her my new favourite animal was a monkphant…. monkey father, elephant mother. Great… now I’ve got to go apologize to Sue. Turns out the “liger” is a new cross species that some scientist invented. A “tion” is the opposite of a “liger”.

9. Got a little too into the song while in the shower and so swish went all my makeup into the toilet…. nasty!
10. Quick visit to Jenn's and what's this.... Ryan is being social?! Hmmmm...must be something he ate! Ha, ha, ha.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you need help with all that money of yours?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Show me the money!

Beware.... I've got friends who are trained to hurt people....ha, ha, ha! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, April 19

1. Apparently I’m now in charge of the elementary students on the “party bus”, well that’s what I call it cause they go wild on it… I’m talking about dancing instead of sitting. Thankfully these mini-Koreans are light enough for me to toss around when they get out of hand.
2. First Wednesday with no public beatings going on in my class (by the other teacher that is).
3. Only in Korea could my class ever be cancelled on account that ALL my male students (including the VP) have hangovers. So no English class for the teachers tonight.
4. I was so bored today at work in the afternoon that I wrote 2 poems and even learned how to say “I am bored” in Korean… “shim shim hae yo”.
5. Amused everyone in the staff room with my misuse of the phrase “nol a jo yo”. I said it to this visiting photographer and instantly knew something was up when it caused him to give me this huge grin. Turns out it means “come play with me”. One of the female teachers had said it to me so it was said in a different context. How was I suppose to know?!
6. Word has it that I have 4-5 weeks of summer holidays…not 1 week like I had expected. AWESOME!!!
7. Updated my laptop display picture by posting a picture of me that I thought was pretty. The teachers mistook it for a provocative picture and so it became the talk of the teacher’s room. Great.
8. Stupid Canada… Toronto had 21 degree weather today while we got rained on all day. The rain totally killed our school entrance garden!
9. My newest friend, and probably one of the most interesting, is the Nuclear Assassin. We’re friends via myspace. And after years of imitating the Bushwhacker Brothers I’ve come one step closer to meeting them…. the Nuclear Assassin is a former wrestler who knows them. Cool!
10. My best move (right upper cut) is nothing compared to buddy-boy the Nuclear Assassin’s move. “I would say that my best moves were the Cobra Clutch sleeper and "Nuclear Meltdown" which is a variation of Scorpion Death drop combined with backbreaker”. I don't even know what the heck that is but I won't ask.... sounds too dangerous!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What would your wrestling name be?

Here's some pictures to amuse you.
The man with the beer in the one hand and the flowers on chopsticks is actually my school principle. He decided to bedazzle us with his singing. This guy is awesome! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, April 18

1. I love it how some of these kids know NO English and yet have learned how to yell out “Sexy teacher” at the top of their lungs. How embarrassing!
2. Oh the things kids say. Because of the fact that my ePAL members have teacher monitored emails, I end up reading every email that they send and receive. I couldn’t help at some of the things they’re writing about…
One student is trying to teach her epal Korean and says they’re no cute Korean boys (what is she talking about?!).
Another says he misses his epal (thought this was cute).
One student (who’s pretty) went on and on about how she thinks she’s ugly.
Then there’s the student who recited word for word what I wrote on the board the other day.
Oh, and did I mention one student asked his epal to hook him up with an American girlfriend?…ha, ha, ha. Nice one.
3. All the top elite from Asan came strolling into my middle school today. We had about 60 guests. Everyone was decked out in suits, ties, skirts and all were looking as if they just stepped out of a magazine. It felt like a night at the Oscars… okay maybe not, but it was close.
4. Supervisor Lee showed up and, like always, he just had to comment about how he finds me so attractive. I’m glad that after all my hard work and dedication to my students that this is the one thing he can think to say. Interesting.
5. Had munchies with the staff after all our guests left. Only in Korea would the VP and Principle bust out booze and start singing in front of all their staff. Ah life on the flipside, I love it!
6. After yesterday’s retardedly hard workout I put myself through, I’m pretty sure that I’ve impressed the head trainer and have met his approval. Cool. Spent the whole day struggling to lift my arms above my head. Ouch!
7. Oh no, I did it again… without even thinking I put my gym locker key in my bag and then handed in someone else’s key. When that lady comes out of the shower she’s going to be so ticked off!
8. Apparently I’m friends with the police officer who monitors the lights near my gym. Didn’t realize this until today when he kept on yelling at me. I thought I had done something wrong but apparently all he wanted was to practice saying hi in English. We met yesterday… I mean, we saw each other yesterday.
9. Ryan has mastered the art of making western buttermilk pancakes! He’s going to make me an awesome wife! Ha, ha, ha.
10. Somebody’s got a boyfriend…. good stuff Wonder Woman. When am I going to meet this Wonder Boy?

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What are American boys really all about?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Here's looking at you, kid.

Big birthday shout outs to my favorite Canadian girl... Andi! Andi, hope it was a blast. Mark, you better have treated her like the queen she is and Oakley, you better not have pooped on the floor on her special day! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, April 17

1. You know it’s love when the man you love hates mornings with a passion and yet gets up and drives you to work in the chilly weather.
2. Ryan’s true shyness came out when we pulled up to my school and some of my students were walking up the driveway. He wouldn’t even drive me up the rest of the way but instead insisted I get off. So funny.
3. Had to make up some silly story for my middle school kids about finding my camera… of course I couldn’t tell them where I really found the camera!
4. While chilling out at my desk with LOADS of work to do (ya right) I get informed that I have class. I love it… they change the schedule and no one tells me!
5. Today is Easter Monday and so my ePAL members wrote to their ePALS in America asking about what Easter is. One American girl wrote, “Easter Day is when Jesus came back from his die thing and other people think that it is a bunny day and eggs with candy day.” Did you understand?
6. Tomorrow’s the big day. Apparently all the Asan education board members and some of Asan city council members are coming to my school and so today all were stressing out over it.
7. At 3:10pm everyone in the school, teachers, staff, and students, all turned into workaholic cleaning freaks! I was really impressed to see the humbleness of my principle who was seen scrubbing the walls.

8. Oddly enough, I was nervous entering my new gym. Today was my first day working out there and so I busted my butt trying to make a good first impression.
9. Got asked if I was Russian by a Korean who’s ego was so big I’m surprised it even fits in his mother’s cheap car. I was really insulted and so my response was, “No, but you’re a funny Japanese!” Ya, that pretty much shut him up.
10. Because Ryan isn’t able to go faster than 60km/hr until he reaches that 1000km mark (for safety) I can relax. But I must admit, he’s getting really testy with his driving. What’s with the no hands? I feel like your mother getting all worked up over this piece of metal you call “baby #3”.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How do I get me one of those?

Who's this pretty girl? Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, April 16

1. Lunch at TGIF… haven’t been there in such a long time.
2. Laundry day… laundry galore! You should have seen how nasty-dirty my beautiful cream coat was because of yesterday’s adventure!
3. Emails from long lost friends… one of which who should have stayed lost!
4. Interesting msn messages from a guy who I’m sure is waking up now clueless to just how open he was on msn!!!
5. Watched some documentary about bodybuilding pioneers and for some reason Ryan had the urge to strut his stuff and give his best posses. Good job Ryan, those guys have nothing on you.
6. I can’t believe I use to think those overly tanned, steroid pumped, and testosterone high dudes were hot stuff…. key word being “were”. Don’t get me wrong, some of my body building buds will always be cool dudes to me but that’s because they proved to be more than just gym freaks… they were human too.
7. Poor Kwong-Ho… Ryan’s best friend is in Japan and in addition to being a Korean (and we all know it’s assumed all Koreans hate Japanese) surround by Japanese, he hardly speaks any English.
8. Did I forget to mention that the other day Ryan dropped the news that he wants to get married soon….to who? Just jokes.
9. Because of Ryan’s comment the other day I’ve spent a lot of time really thinking about where I see my life in a few years. Am I going to live in Korea forever, maybe.
10. Am shocked that I’m not bald after Ryan combed my tangled hair. We went on a scooter ride and it left my hair in knots. Oh does my head ever hurt. Of course I won’t learn a lesson and I’ll probably do it again tomorrow!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Will the Japanese ever stop arguing about Dok-do Island?

Ventured out to Daejon's "Motorcyle Street". I want a grizzly for my birthday... oh ya baby, that's hot! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, April 15

1. Finally got around to getting my gym pass for the gym near my house downtown.
2. Oh no…. I found my camera. It was in my backpack. I was convinced some student took it and so now on Monday I’ll have to make up some stupid story!
3. Our day trip into Daejon turned into quite an adventure….and part of that adventure I definitely don’t want to repeat!
4. There comes a point in everybody’s life when they’re sure they’re about to die… Ryan causing a reckless driving transport truck driver to pull over was the start of this feeling for me. Ryan was nothing but a tough man as he yelled at this dude, who, of course deserved it (and a kick in the head – he never got that though).
5. Apparently the truck driver didn’t like what Ryan said and so he came racing at us with his massive transport truck. Luck had it that there was a side street for us to quickly turn on. It was obvious that this man was nothing short of crazy when he got out of the truck, looked for any kind of weapon, and decided to wait for us.
6. Ended up having to call the cops and so we got a police escort on our route to Daejon. However, I couldn’t help but keep on looking over my shoulder, just in case.
7. Made it to Daejon safely where we then ventured to “Motorcycle Street”. Scooters and bikes lined the streets. Everyone drove one… even the tea girls delivering tea!
8. Was kind of embarrassed when I found out that one of the repair men where we hung out for about an hour, understood English and was fluent!!! I think he agreed with my comment about his buddy’s super funky perma hair.
9. Froze our butts off on the ride home. I was convinced I was going into shock cause the wind felt warm on my face but my toes were numb and I couldn’t feel my legs!
10. Have to admit, Ryan and I both looked like a pair of retards as we got off the bike and tried to walk. We both had a good laugh making fun of each other and how stupid we looked!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How far would you go to prove a point?

Well this date really sucked...she feel asleep! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, April 14

1. Happy Black Day Korea..... for those who don't know "Black Day"...it's a day when all the single people eat black Chinese noodles. I thankfully won't be celebrating it this year.
2. Happy Good Friday to everyone!

3. I think I’ve finally mastered that silly little hand-clapping routine that’s apparently the craze with all my elementary kids. Yes Brett… you and you’re super freaky-fast hands are much quicker than me. What the heck was I thinking, trying to compete with a little kid that’s obsessed with that hand clapping thing.
4. What a relief… didn’t have to kick out Kyle from my grade 5 class. Last week he got a beating and a half from a fellow teacher and so I was really not looking forward to having a repeat of that this week.
5. Oh my gosh… turned around only to bump into Mr. Cutie at Eumbong Elementary School and spill my water on him. Quickly grabbed a tissue and was about to help him clean himself off when I stop and realized where the water had splashed on him…. talk about an ackward situation. I think we both blushed!
6. During coffee time with the other teachers, the topic of discussion was money. I thought my pay is sweet compared to the other foreign teachers but Mr. Funny-Pants’ pay is a cavity!!!
7. Surprise, surprise…. turns out I’ve got all these extra holidays in May!!! Excellent! I’ve got a total of 5 extra days off…. I love Korea!
8. Had an interesting chat with a fellow Torontonian who I’m convinced is either going to end up dying of AIDS or having some guy’s girlfriend kill her…I’m serious. Monika… change your ways.
9. Emart again tonight for more strawberries! Ryan eats them with maple syrup…ya, if that’s not going to cause him tons of cavities than I don’t know what will!
10. So much for me being a good movie date… ten minutes into the movie and I was asleep. Sorry Ryan.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Where did you come from and where are you going?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Okay...now I'm curious as to why two girls are sitting in a BOX, but... I won't ask! Ha, ha, ha! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, April 13

1. Finished watching “Shrek” in my 2-2 class. The best was when my student Ryan said, “Ah…now I know. Your boyfriend kiss you so you are now beautiful”…. in the movie Fiona takes on “love’s true form by true love’s kiss”.
2. Word is officially out among my middle school boys that yes, I do in fact kiss my boyfriend. Ryan from class 2-2 had a field day with this gained knowledge. Next question of course was what kind of kiss do I give my boyfriend. Ah….gotta love the curiosity of teenage boys. So funny.
3. Sat around for a couple of hours with my little Sue. We shared grapes. She ate the inside only, like a typical Korean, and I ate the outside. Oh, I’m so rebellious…ha, ha, ha.
4. I am slowly going crazy, 1-2-3-4-5-switch. Slowly going, crazy am I, 1-2-3-4-5-switch
5. Great….now I’ve got that stupid Emart song stuck in my head!!!
6. Gave Ryan an automaton…. let me get a dog or let me drive your scooter. It’s a tough one!
7. Thought I’d be an adventurous chic by trying to drive Ryan’s scooter. Jumped on the little best and the roar of it’s mighty little engine kind of spooked me. I could so see myself driving it into the wall so I called it quits. I will come back for you though!
8. I think Ryan’s really feeling bad for saying no about the whole dog issue. Yesterday it was ice cream and today it was dinner out at a nice Korean restaurant. I ate like a queen!
9. Felt like kicking the restaurant window when a certain 3 Korean females just wouldn’t stop staring at Ryan and me. I’d would have stared back at you girls but you just aren’t worth my time and aren’t so pretty to look at.
10. More pressure talk with Ryan about the dog. Doesn’t he see that stubborn is obviously my middle name?!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What is a sane man to do in an insane society?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Don't call me irrational. It makes me crazy when you do that.

My partner in crime... Detective Jack. Peace Jack and may the forces be with you as you try to search out my camera! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, April 12

1. No that’s not morning breath…. that bad taste was left there from last night’s discussion with Ryan about getting a dog.
2. Slept in the car on my way to work and who was there waiting for me… the Wollang Principle. That meant I had like MINUS 5 minutes to set my computer up, print off the worksheet I typed up, grab my indoor shoes and get my Polish butt in his car.
3. Okay enough, is enough… you can stop giving me a new CD EVERY WEEK! I’m up to 7 grade five elementary English CDs, mind you, 4 of those 7 got damaged by their computer’s disk drive.
4. I LOVE being told that I have some big important document is due tomorrow when everyone else knew about it since Monday. Really impressed.
5. My English class for the teachers was cancelled today because of Monday’s upcoming visit from the Asan education supervisors. Seems like I’m the only teacher not freaking out!
6. Apparently every dog my co-teacher Mrs. Jhung sees reminds her of me….. huh? what? What she meant is that because of our on-going discussion about me wanting a dog, now every time she sees a dog she is reminded of how much I want one.
7. After yesterday’s chat with Ryan about the possibility of getting a little dog, it was obvious he wasn’t supportive. Him warning me that he’d eat it made it pretty clear for me. So, I was totally bummed out today and so I went to bed at 8pm.
8. Ryan always seems to know the perfect time to surprise me with ice cream. Must admit… it’s a sure shot it’d help the situation cause I’m a sucker for ice cream! Ice cream IS the way to my heart.
9. Think I was awake for one hour and then I called it a day again. Lights out.
10. Still haven’t broken Ryan down… he will break, I’m determined. I have to have more DOUBLE P… patience and persistence but in the mean time I'm so sad he still says no.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Can I please get a dog?
(Ya, I know it's the same question as yesterday but I'm going to keep on asking that until you give me a better answer!!!)

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

It's not looking so good but I haven't lost hope yet.... eventually EVERYONE cracks under pressure (hint, hint...Ryan) Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, April 11

1. Day 2 of Detective Jack on the prowl for my camera. Jack is from my middle school 1-1 class. He’s been drilling everyone about my camera.
2. Out of pure frustration with Toto in my class, I decided to give him a little clip on the shoulder with my shoe. Proved to be more hilarious than effective.
3. I swear… it’s all Mr. Science Guy’s fault!!! Today he dropped me off right after the downtown bridge where the DOG store is… yes, I ventured in. There sat a cute little beagal but no, I didn’t buy it. Had I had the money on me I probably would have!!!
4. Am convinced the guy at the dog store is frustrated with me at this point. Whenever I come into his shop I get all the dogs all excited by playing with them and then I leave them whining….. trust me, I could take them all, I WOULD!
5. Spent a good part of my evening searching out the perfect dog for me.
6. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE can I get the dog?! No, I’m not asking…. I’m begging at this point!
7. I think I may have allergies cause with the change of the season I’ve been really having a hard time fighting the temptation to rub my eyes. At the end of the day I reward myself with 5 minutes of non-stop deep rubbing. Feels good but I want it to all stop!
8. I think today may be the last day of China’s sand invading our turf and it’s about time too!
9. As if we needed another reason to banana milk…. now at Emart they’re giving away mini thermo cups with banana milk packs.

10. Having to explain to Ryan and then having to have him explain to the clueless Emart clerk about what “hair conditioning treatment” was… well, was rather annoying. She either didn’t understand Korean or didn’t have a clue as to what products she was selling. Thankfully I’m a smart cookie and so I found it for myself, in the next aisle

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Can I please get a dog?

Announcing the arrival of Ryan's new baby... his new scooter. Today we agreed on what couple helmets we're going to get...cool.Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, April 10

1. Won’t even get into the morning drama with waking up at 8:10am to Mr. Science guy outside my window!!! Talk about pulling through under pressure but it meant I had to play it up the whole day… never mind.
2. Ran into my not-so-secret admirer at school today. I couldn’t help but giggle at the fact that I know his secret.
3. Announced to my classes that my camera has gone missing. Blackmailed them into thinking I know who took it. Let’s see if it works.
4. Totally got drilled by my student Jack who rushed into the teacher’s room all concerned and wanted to know every detail about my camera. This guy’s wicked!
5. Ariel… you are the better man. Thanks for being a friend. Much respect to ya!
6. Shocked all my ePAL students with emailing them a Korean email. Little do they know Ryan wrote it for me. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of questions about it tomorrow.
7. Holy cow batman… Ryan’s method of making pickles apparently seems to be working. I guess I shouldn’t tell him that buying real pickles is much cheaper!
8. Finished writing that children’s poem I started the other day at work. That’s for being my audience Jenn.
9. Supper’s disaster consisted of soggy rice, dried up kimchi, cheese wieners who’s cheese all poured out onto the plate when I cut them and soup that was as thick as baby’s pabulum. We won’t even talk about Ryan’s white wine cork disaster! Ya, it was great.
10. Did some online shopping with Ryan for “couple helmets”. There’s couple shirts, couple rings, couple hats, and now we invented couple helmets. He’ll be getting a black and white one and mine will be pink in white. Same design pattern just different colours. Cute.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Can I play the "birthday card" yet?

Today I took a walk down memory lane. I was surprised at how different the road was in comparison to what we thought it'd ever be. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, April 9

1. Talk about a blast from the past…. Ryan Dudgeon. I remember the day he showed up in Whitby with flowers. I thought they were for me but they were actually for my mother.
2. Seems like today was the day to dig up MORE names from the past. On MySpace I not only discovered my high school friends Cameron, Dawn and Hodge, but I also discovered my high school grade 12 prom date, Sean.
3. Scoped out some more faces from high school on MySpace. Turns out time was nicer to some than others while others haven’t changed. Mr. Cool dude who was once a wild child, now has tamed down and has limited himself to one girlfriend. Mr. Popular is now pudgy. Mr. Class Clown is now the teacher. Mr. Little Cutie is now Mr. Tall hottie. Ms. Know-it-All apparently knows nothing now. Mr. Cutie is now Mr. Smarty-pants and Ms. Ugly Duckling is now the school swan!
4. See, being cool in high school means NOTHING in life. Take Dawn for example, her and I weren’t the coolest of girls, she was quiet and I was a social butterfly but now she’s definitely one of the prettiest and I ain’t so bad either. Looks like time was good to us both!
5. It’s official… I can’t find my Casio digital camera and now I’m freakin’ out! I know I had mentioned that I wanted to upgrade to a better one but I didn’t mean now!
6. It felt like Christmas was in the air again with Ryan showing up with TWO HUGE bricks of cheese, lots of pickles, and LOTS of sausages from Costco! So cool!
7. Ya Ron… I know you get all those Costco goodies on base… bite me! Ha, ha, ha.
8. Ryan’s new baby… baby #3, came home today. I think I will one day love him but I’m still stuck on Vino… his first scooter. (I’m his #1 baby, followed by Vino and then this blue new guy).
9. First test drive on the new scooter took us on a grand tour of Cheonan. We ventured to some random university, some lake I had discovered last week, and even out to my middle school in Asan!
10. Watched some Chinese movie that flashed English subtitles way too fast across the screen even I couldn’t read it. Good pick Ryan. If you weren’t so cute I’d fire your Korean bum!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What ever happened to dreaming big?

Ron waking up all of Korea in Suwon... ya, like I'm sure they're going to see the humour in this one. Ha, ha, ha! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, April 8

1. Today Ryan journeyed out to Seoul to get his new scooter… cool, cool.
2. After receiving a nasty email, I must admit I spent too much time debating what to say to this person. So I will say this… much thanks to this certain someone for blowing things way out of proportion and for proving to be a bigger idiot than WE initially gave him credit. You’re not worth the air your breathing so you’re DEFINITELY not worth my time.
3. Jenn I love you… no, I’m not a lesbian but I do appreciate having a friend that backs me up and calms me down. Don’t leave Korea!!!
4. Snapped out of it around 4pm and then I went for a jog.
5. Decided to venture out to the land of military personel… Suwon and then Songtan. While on the subway, I ran into Mr. Egypitan. An overly aggressive and annoying guy who didn’t get the hint when I pretended to speak only Korean that I wasn’t interested in his cheesey pick-up lines and bad breath.
6. Turns out in the same train car is some Korean guy who is bilingual and so Mr. Egypitan tried to get him to translate things for us. Great. Thought my cover would be blown but I think when I called Mr. Egyptian “byung shin” (retard), the Korean understood what was going down.
7. Talk about a great lasting meeting… as my train slowed down to where Ron was waiting for me, I jumped off and pushed him into the next train car where we then ran to another train car. Talk about an adrenelane rush!
8. Ron took me to a jazz club that played no jazz. It wasn’t totally a bust though cause I’m never one short for words and so we had a great chat.
9. Well Ron, your secret is out…. the Koreans have discovered your true identity! “Ron” by day, “Steve Austin” by night… cool! I think you were the highlight of that dude’s night, and mine too.
10. Made my way back home and watched the rest of Shrek before going to bed.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Are you proud of yourself?

One of my favorite students at Eumbong Middle School... Ryan. He saw my blog the other day and told everyone I had an "adult picture" of myself on it. So funny but so not true. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, April 7

1. Have you ever woke up and thought if you wished hard enough, the whole day would disappear? That was today for me. After spending too much time last night writing up lesson plans for a teacher that knows only a handful of English, I woke up with lack of sleep and not in a good mood.
2. Kyle in my grade 5 class was being a royal pain in the you know where so I kicked him out of class. No sooner did I kick him out than I went to go get him and caught my co-teacher beating him on the head. What she views as discipline I viewed as cruelty. I felt so sad and so I promised myself I’d never kick him, or any other student at this school, out of class again.
3. Got bombarded by some of my Eumbong Elementary girls who said one of my middle school student’s instant messanger message is “Ms. B is mine”. Of course my curious mind inquired about the student’s name.
4. First thing I did when I returned to my middle school was look up the English name of my “secret admirer”… not so secret anymore. There’s definitely a strange but flattering feeling that comes with knowing one of my prized students is infactuated with me.
5. Spent the rest of the afternoon trying to dodge my not-so-secret admirer.
6. Filled up on tea and coffee the rest of the afternoon cause I couldn’t really stomach my food at lunch time. Had a hard time shaking the image of Kyle getting wacked on the head out of my head.
7. So cute… I told some co-workers that I’ve never eaten a yellow melon until I came to Korea and so today the principle treated ALL staff to yellow melon and even sent me home with one.
8. Found 101 ways how to waste 3 hours. I don’t teach Friday and Wednesday afternoons but I’ve been getting pretty creative with how I spend that time.

Emailed some friends.
Sat with my VP and gave him a private English lesson.
Went for a walk up the mountain behind my school.
Jammed the paper shredder.
Fixed the paper shredder.
Made every teacher coffee.
Wrote a silly children’s poem.

Painted my nails with white-out.
Picked off all the white-out from my nails.
Sharpened 30 new pencils.
Watered every plant in the teacher's room.
Edited 10 students' emails to their ePALS.
Played around with the format of my ePALS webpage.

9. Noticed lately that I’ve been getting pretty curious about driving Ryan’s scooter. Tonight I had him push me down the street on it while I made scooter noises and pretended to honk at people. So funny!

10. Ordered in for supper and had a movie night with my favorite beauty…Ryan. Tonight's featured film was "Black Hawk Down".

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Could it ever get any better than this?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
This IS the life!
