As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Here's Harajuku girl!... gotta love that dog dish too, "I love dog".. ha, ha, ha

This dude was so cool. He's this Japanese guy who's been traveling around for some time now and who's just really enjoying life. He tried to teach me some Japanese but I couldn't even remember his name. My memory is brutal!

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, February 28

1. Ryan and I headed back to the Korean Consulate to pick up our work visas… sweet. Amused each other by sitting there for over an hour and “creatively” commenting on the other foreigners, particularly the dudes. See Ryan, now you know why I don’t date foreign men in Korea. After about an hour of just chewing out the dudes, it was clear he got my point. I think the only dude I found particularly interesting was gay, go figure.
2. Ventured back to the ferry terminal and tried to change my ticket for a ferry today… no luck. Ran into Bobby there and so I said good-bye to both Bobby and Ryan.
3. With no place to go and a whole day to kill until my ferry leaves tomorrow morning, I decided to jump on a bus and go hunting for somewhere to sleep tonight. Ryan had told me about these “capsule” hotels where you sleep in a kind of bed, similar to a tanning booth bed. I thought it’d be fun, a bit claustrophobic, but nonetheless interesting. Instead however, I stumbled across a hostel… perfect!

4. The hostel was four floors of foreigners. It was super clean and I didn’t have to dish out much money cause I agreed to share a room with three other girls. Met this cool chic, Jane. She’s got this super sweet job. She writes textbooks for the hagwan she use to teach at and so she gets to work at home and on her own schedule! Wow… and here I thought I was spoiled!!!
5. Met some dudes from my neck of the woods in Canada. One was from Ajax and the other was from Oshawa (both those cities neighbour my hometown). Way to represent Durham Region!!! Wow. Just goes to show you, this world isn’t so big afterall!

6. Went in search of some shopping and ended up totally getting lost. It was cool though. I walked around for about 6 hours and found some pretty cool shops. Let’s see, there was the cool pet store jam-packed with puppies, many of which were walking around outside the cages. There were the thrift stores with the 80’s theme, that was fun. Most shops were totally expensive though and so I didn’t really do anything more than window shopping and playing with the puppies.
7. Did end up buying stuff after all. At the pet store I bought this food dish for Mi Nam. I think it’s suppose to read “I love dogs” or “I love my dog”, instead, it read “I love dog”… don’t they eat cats in Japan though?! Ha, ha, ha.
8. Have a new little sidekick… when I first saw her I thought she was so cute. Rumour has it she was too short to be one of Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku girls, and so now she’s my Harajuku girl.. ha, ha, ha. Mind ya, she’s lik2 inches tall, has her clothes glued onto her body and has a metal clip coming out of her head. Ok, ok.. you got me. She’s a doll. I guess after seeing my “sister” Jane with her “daughters”, I thought I’d get me a little one too.. ha, ha, ha.
9. Finally arrived back at the hostel where I was then bombarded with so many foreigners. The place was packed. I sat down with some of them until it was just a bit too much for me and so then I jumped online and chatted with some much missed people ;)
10. Out of all the people I met at the hostel, the most interesting was this Japanese guy. I can’t remember his name for the life of me though, hmmm… Anyway, I strayed away from the foreign crowd to talk to him in the hallway. We sat down and chatted. When I told him I was a professor he started to bow to me, it was so cute. He was super cool, super nice and super tall, wow. Turns out I’m 5 days older than him, cool.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Anyone know a good Korean restaurant here [in Japan]?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Tuesday, February 27, 2007

While the boys ran off to the "little boy's room", I took a random picture of myself while I was still in aww over how beautiful Japan is.

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, February 27

1. I’ve never been one to believe in luck but today I definitely had things going for me. Here’s today’s challenges:

a. Waking up after only 3 hours of sleep
b. Leaving the house late
c. No reserve d ferry ticket to Japan
d. Don’t know where the Korean Consulate is in Japan
e. No reserved hotel room

2. Thanks to a super racing taxi driver and one massive cup of coffee I was able to get up, race out the house and make it to the KTX station on time for the 6am train to Busan. At Busan I then went to the Ferry Terminal where I was then told that they were OUT of tickets for the day… oh my gosh. Thankfully, as I stood there hoping that a miracle would happen, the teller told me someone just cancelled their ticket, perfect! Mind ya, there were no returning tickets for tomorrow and so I was forced to stay in Fukuoka, Japan till Thursday… cool.
3. Taking the ferry to Fukuoka, Japan was the coolest idea yet! It was nothing but our boat surrounded by nothing but water and the occasional dolphin… so beautiful. I was too tired though and so 20 minutes into the ride I totally passed out.
4. After about 5 ½ hours of traveling (train and boat), I finally arrived in Fukuoka, Japan. I had no idea where I was going and so I asked these random foreigners. They TOTALLY hooked me up… gave me printed out directions they had, a map, some translated phrases, and even change for the bus! Sweet! I guess foreigners aren’t that bad…ha, ha, ha.
5. At the Korean Consulate I was once again confronted with foreigners… a whole wack of them, wow!!! As they all talked about where they’re working in Korea and where they’re staying in Japan, it hit me… where am I going to sleep tonight and what about tomorrow night, too?! I listed off about 12 different places thinking it’d be easy to avoid dishing out mad cash for an overly priced hotel room but already I was noticing that things on my list didn’t seem to be in Japan. No random PC rooms, no love motels, no bath houses,… no luck!
6. Ended up hooking up with these three random dudes, Ryan, Bobby and Julian. We all were here on our visa run and so we got talking while waiting in line. With no other plans but to pick up my visa tomorrow, I decided to hang around with these dudes for the evening. We headed out for dinner and then did some walking and sight seeing. Nice… watched a romantic sunset… with these three dudes, ha, ha, ha. Even nicer was the subdivision we checked out… wow! The houses looked too perfect. It felt like I was in a movie set for “It’s a Wonderful Life”…ha, ha, ha.
7. My first impression of Japan: Japan is so beautiful! The sky is SO beautiful here, the country is incredibly clean, there’s no trash on the ground, everything is very modern and it’s super quiet. They drive on the other side of the road, the taxi doors automatically open, there’s no road rage, no one seems to use their horns. The men are cute but have NOTHING on Korean men, the women love the glamorous look with the big hair, lots of make-up, leather boots and barely legal short skirts, and everyone seems to be in their own little world. This is definitely not Korea!!! And, besides the foreigners here on a visa run, I really didn’t see any other foreigners! Japan supposedly pays foreign English teachers really well but where are these foreigners. I thought it ironic too cause in Korea, foreign English teachers are everywhere and yet many Koreans still give us the double look. Then I come to Japan, still haven’t seen any foreign teachers who live here and yet the Japanese could care less about us foreigners. No random kids tested out their English on me, no older men gave me smiles, no teenagers called me pretty, and no one gave us any double looks. Interestingly strange.
8. Ok… so one of the things we amused ourselves with, and it was rather weird too, were these hand statues (not too sure if that’s even the right name to call them). Near the stadium there were these statues of various famous people’s hands. Bobby was the only one who’d shake Michael Jackson’s hand. Billy Joel rubbed my feet and Frank Sanatra liked my face…ha, ha, ha. It was strangely amusing and actually really interesting.
9. Sweet… Ryan was in need of more yen (Japanese money) and I was in need of a bed to sleep in tonight… perfect trade off. Great… now I’m not internationally homeless, ha, ha, ha.
10. Well everything in Japan is supper expensive and we found out just how true this was when we got the bill. Turns out they charge you just to sit in the seats! Ouch!

Hello?!

No... my boyfriend didn't really buy me a Ford. First of all, I fly solo and so Ms. Independent here busts her own butt to buy her own things and secondly, like I'd ever drive a Ford. Go Dodge or go home!!! I guess that's why that guy never lasted! Ha, ha, ha.

Highlights of my Day... Monday, February 26

1. It's official... I've been invited to Nerio's wedding! Cool.. this is going to be the wedding of the century filled with lots of teachers and various foreigners. Nerio is a fellow English teacher here who works for Asan, like me.
2. Are you serious? No, honestly.. really?! No sooner did I get an invite to Nerio's wedding but then I ran into a former co-worker. She wanted to know when I was getting married....hmm. She said that my whole school would show up for my wedding, cool, thanks, but she's going to have bring the groom...ha, ha, ha.
3. Meet up with Ki-Dong at Dankook and got my schedule and texts. Wow.. it's so official, cool!
4. As if hanging out with Kim Tae isn't uncomfortable enough right now, I then had to wait around with him while my school board took their time putting my pay into my account. I know, I know.. they're busy but with less than 30 minutes till closing, we were really pushing it at the bank with switching won over to yen for my trip tomorrow.
5. My little "sister" Jenny called me up today. She was super excited to hear that I was back in Korea... it was so cute!!! We made plans to meet this Sunday and I know she'll be all smiles. She's got this amazing energy about her and so it's cool being her adopted big sister.
6. Opted out of letting Kim Tae drive me home, I was in a retarded mood and wasn't impressed. Great, one of my few close friends in this country and he's got to be all weird towards me, how's that for life eh?! So, what did I do.. well, I checked out the local new clothing hot spot cause there's nothing a little shopping can't fix. Three cute t-shirts later, I was walking home with a big smile back on my face. Cool.
7. Had the "big meeting" tonight with the ex and my landlady. My housing contract is up for the year and so I wanted to renew it... that's where he comes in (first contract was in his name). But, instead of saying what I really think here and giving him props or too much attention, I'll say this... when I first saw him sitting there, I was reminded of all the reasons why he's been the only man I've ever truly loved but when he ignored me to answer his texts, I remembered why it ended. Someone like him could never keep up with someone like me. We're just in two different leagues. I wish him well but I feel sorry for him. He's super smart but not so smart that he could ever keep someone like me, and because of that, he'll never be able to come play in my league. He can sit on the bench and watch, but play... nope.
8. Leave it too Mi Nam to cheer me up. I came home and when I opened my door, there was Mi Nam. He's awesome and for all the unconditional love, kisses and funny faces, I love him so much! I've been trying hard to totally baby him cause of the whole cone-head thing. Hopefully the vet will take that silly cone head off his neck on Thursday.
9. Held an internet fashion show... ha, ha, ha. My signature piece was my new t-shirt that reads, "My boyfriend bought me a Ford". Anyone that really knows me knows I'm a truck girl but my flavor is the Dodge Ram 1500!!! Oh ya... that's hot! The fashion show consisted of cute t-shirts, Nike Shox, various baseball caps. Thanks to Do Chun for his contribution of the army uniform, beanie and the ultra low baseball cap... ha, ha, ha.
10. Buying myself ice cream was enough to turn my evening around but Do Chun's dance party worked too. Had to laugh when another friend of mine messaged me and offered to "take him out" for $25 and a hug... wow! No laughs over Kobe's line though... that was so smooth, too smooth. See, I know not all guys suck! Only some guys are rotten.

Thanks Jane for this great banner!

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, February 25

1. Dang... no bacon and eggs for breakfast! Was expecting Trouble Boy to venture out this morning and have breakfast with me but when he shrugged me off (I'm assuming he had "company" over), I decided it best to just go home to Cheonan.
2. Well he found me... Crazy Casey from last night searched me out and found me on MySpace. I'm cool with meeting new people and joking around but he's all dead set on bringing me to Seoul for some punk show. Hmm... jumping around in a pit full of super hyper, super drunk, sweaty young kids and having to listen to pounding music that'll probably leave me with ringing ears for a few days isn't really want I define as fun. New experience, yes, but fun... no.
3. Well my morning consisted of emailing random people (Andi you still haven't written back... hmm) and laying around the floor with Mi Nam.
4. Am convinced I pulled a muscle in my side... ouch! After having such a lazy morning and totally unproductive afternoon, I decided it'd be a good idea to crank up the music and bust out some crazy dance moves. Five songs later and one stupid dance moves too many, I was hurting...ha, ha, ha.
5. Acquired a new nickname today... "Smartie". When I came back to Korea I had brought with me 32 boxes of Smarties (Canadian candy similar to M&Ms, but better... of course). I handed out so many boxes but still have a few remaining boxes in my fridge. I try not to eat sweets but it's so hard to resist. When I had asked Kobe what Smartie I was, I couldn't help but laugh when he designated me a yellow Smartie, how appropriate! Ok, so that's one more nickname to add to the already long list of nicknames people call me.

My Nicknames:

Bere Bum
Yorky Bere
Polska Bere
Baby Bere
Lead Bum
Polish Bum
Ghetto Bum
Blondie
Mama Pump
Ms. Giggle Pants

6. I admit it, I was way too lazy today and too comfortable hanging around the house in my Sunday whities to go get food and so I tried my hardest to be creative with what to eat. Let's see, breakfast consisted of a cup of coffee and a box of Smarties (I couldn't resist). Lunch consisted of about 3 cups of green tea, a protein shake, a spoon of peanut butter and a massive can of pineapples. By the time dinner came around, I was dying of hunger and so I took the elevator down to the GS Store on the 1st floor and got kimbab, ramyun and milk. In between all these totally hurting meals, I'm sure I ate a few mouth fulls of lip gloss... I'm addicted to the Body Shops' new high shine gloss... wow!
7. Jane... you're the coolest! Thanks for all the awesome emails and comments! Wow! You always brighten my day. Today I was kind of sad because I talked to Kobe on msn and we're both missing each other a lot. But, after I got off msn with him, I noticed an email from you. Thanks!
8. Kobe... how the heck you got under my skin (in a good way that is) is beyond me but I do miss you. You really made my vacation awesome and I am blessed having you in my life, thanks!
9. And Do Chun... you like talking more than my mom, wow! I thought that was impossible, apparently not. Glad to hear that you finally got a hold of the movie "Hitch". Will Smith definitely has game in that movie!
10. Ran into my Friendly Neighbor and, like always, she got abusive and hit me right across the shoulder. She said she missed me but I think she just missed hitting me cause with me gone, she had no one else to push around...ha, ha, ha. She's cool. I don't understand some of the stuff she says and I don't know why she ALWAYS insists on hitting me but I like her.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Anyone want to come to Japan with me?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
I like to watch.

Now here's someone who'll tell you straight up and isn't out to be anything but honest... Gangster Boy.

This dude was a bit too much but we loved the entertainment. He really "spiced" up my evening. He claims he's going to kidnap me and take me to a punk show in Seoul, umm... no. Is this where I should be scared? Oh gosh.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, February 24

1. Have you ever woke up and had that awful feeling down in your stomach that something is just not right? Ya, well, I totally woke up to that today. I knew something was wrong but didn't know what. I looked around my house, nope, nothing wrong there. Mi Nam was ok, I was ok but still, I knew something was wrong. Then I checked out my emails...
2. Apparently the other day my cousin went to the doctor's to get a rash checked out and, while still there, he collapsed on the floor, dead. This is now the second family member I've lost since I've been here in Korea and I hate it. I hate this feeling of not being able to be there for my family to see this through and so that they can comfort me too. This has got to be the worst feeling in the world.
3. Sticking around the house wasn't an option I gave myself, considering the situation, and so I headed off to the gym to relieve some stress and surround myself with people. Ran into the new trainer and he was all smiles to see me and he said he missed me while I was in Canada... ahhh, so cute. Thanks! He promised me he'd study English more so that we can become good friends. Nice guy.
4. Sweeeeet! Got my somewhat official schedule from Dankook University and am happy to say that Ki-Dong totally hooked me up with Wednesdays off; he's awesome! Thanks dude! Having Wednesdays off totally is a sweet break in the middle of the week! Sooooooo great!

Monday: 1 - 5pm
Tuesday: 3 - 7pm
Wednesday: day off
Thursday: 1 - 5pm
Friday: 1 - 7pm

5. Still wasn't up to par and so I headed out to Songtan for my monthly dose of "foreign blood"... ha, ha, ha. I really don't care for Songtan but it's nice to visit once in awhile (I get to practice my English there... ha, ha, ha). Ended up hooking up with Gangster Boy and his 5 buddies at "Chilli's" for dinner. One of Gangster Boy's buddies tried to totally pick on me cause I was the only Canadian there. I argued that Canada has always been the "Friendly Neighbor" to other countries whereas America has always been viewed as the "Bully". He thought he'd be smart and come back with, "You better be careful.. hey guys, let's take over Canada". Nice... my point proven right there. It was all jokes... he being the punchline, ouch!
6. Got into Yong Chan club... wow! They're still "anti-Canadians" but Greg worked his magic again. He went up to the main door dude and remind him of me, his "wife"..ha, ha, ha. Apparently Greg went there the other night and the staff asked him, "Hey, where's your wife?" Oh gosh... we're so far from being a married couple. We're just two friends, but we won't go telling them that! They must think we have one weird open relationship cause Greg is all about egging me on and trying to get me to talk to random guys but, for the most part, it doesn't work. I'm just here to have fun with my friends.
7. Holy awkwardness... walked into a TOTAL sausage fest where I was one of three female customers in the joint. Wow! I quickly looked for a familiar face and just my luck, he was the biggest dude there and so I stuck close to him. He humoured me by picking on this old lady, I think she worked there. His plan backfired though and she ended up continually poking him and eyeing me. That was my exit cue!
8. I've got a new fan... sooo funny! His name is Casey and he knows Gangster Boy. He had made up this huge story about us going to the same university and so I thought it was funny but the real entertainment came when he tried to do some silly poll dance and then ended up yelling at some other guy for dancing on the poll after him. Oh gosh. Later he tracked me down at Yong Chan club. He tried hard to get my attention and ,well, dropping drinks definitely did that.
9. Witnessed the world's worst attempt at break dancing. Seriously boys, get up. Maybe I should have invited them out to Cheonan to let them see my Cheonan B-Boys break it down for them. Cheonan B-Boys would chew those dudes up, embarrass them, and then leave them with their months wide open, confused as to what they just saw. Step aside!
10. Trouble Boy came out to say hi to me. He's leaving this week and so I thought it nice to say goodbye to him. It's funny cause regardless of how I complain about his stalking-like behaviour, I will miss him. Having him in Songtan meant I always ran into a familiar face and he always worried about me. Mind ya, looks like Gangster Boy will be in Songtan till March 2008 and so that's cool.... cool for me, not so cool for him. He really misses his family and his kids.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you remember my name?

Highlights of my Day... Friday, February 23

1. After only 4 hours of sleep, I woke up and tried to prepare myself for what's expected to be a teary-eyed, heart-wrenching, day of goodbyes. Dang... no waterproof mascra! Showed up at my middle school with sweaty palms, heart pounding and already choking on tears. This going to be so hard.
2. Just perfect... the first person who greeted me was my favorite student, Ryan. I had just entered the school when all of a sudden I heard someone yelling out my name, it was Ryan. He ran back to his classroom and then reappeared with a huge cake for me. I was so flattered. You see, when I first meet Ryan he really didn't care about English. He was all about girls, girls, and more girls. He thought I was only a pretty face and so although he was attentive in class, it was really only to stare at me. He didn't care to listen to me. But, as time went by he became more interested in my class and more interested in learning English. He's one of those "misunderstood" kids. I use to run an after school group in which I held a school-wide competition. His entrance piece didn't come close to making it but I fought hard to convince my co-workers to have him included cause I saw something in him they didn't; I saw my brother. But, the defining moment with us really was on a chilly morning mid last year. Things with my ex had reached a definite low and I showed up for school feeling the wieght of the world on my shoulders. I snuck by the students and sat alone in my classroom crying. Ryan had seen me come in and followed me. I never did tell him what I was crying about but he kind of knew cause of a secret I let slip the day before in a conversation with him. That whole day he was so sad and so all the teachers and students were confused as to why. I knew why though.
3. Attended my last staff meeting at Eumbong Middle School and so I was
asked to give a speech to my fellow staff members. I told them that it was really hard to leave a group of people who have totally taken me in as family and so I am so sad. I then choked up and cried... so did P.E. Teacher!!!!!! I love that guy and his huge head!
4. As if it wasn't hard enough saying good-bye, I then had to attend a ceremony for us three teachers who are changing schools. Mr. P.E. Teacher cracked a joke at the start of my speech and so that helped relax me a bit. His English is pretty bad but he had joked that he'd try to translate and then when he tried, his translation was no where close to what I had said. It was hilarious.
5. As a small token of thanks, the school had arranged for three students to come up on stage and present us three teachers with flowers. By that time, I had composed myself but when I looked up and saw Ryan walking up to me with this huge bouquet of flowers, the tears came. This guy has no idea of how awesome it was to teach him. When he sat back down I glanced over at him. He had started to cry.
6. After the ceremony, I handed out my Smarties (Canadian candy) and thank-you gifts to the staff and then walked around the school giving out lots of hugs to my students. They wanted to know who'll be their new English teachers (both I and Mrs. Jeung are leaving Eumbong... that's the whole English department) but I don't know. I feel bad not knowing though. It'd be nice to know that my students will be in good hands but I can only hope that they will be.
7. All us Eumbong staff members headed out for one last lunch together and wow, did we ever eat in style!!! We went to this super posh restuarant where we had a private room and four women waited on us hand and foot. The meal was incrediably delicious. Everything was perfect... I mean everything!!!
8. Some of the male teachers drank quite a lot and so they were super hyper after the meal. Mr. Joo thought it'd be a good idea to head over to the batting cage across the street and hit some rounds. I thought it was quite foolish and dangerous so I stuck around for a bit to amuse myself and then I headed home.
9. Got word from Ki-Dong that Dankook has my work visa confirmation number... sweet! Look out Japan, here I come!
10. Ran into a old friend of mine here in Korea. She's actually the one who set things up with me and the ex...oh ya, had LOTS to say to her. Oh please... spent too much time already on that boy, no more thanks! Sure, I miss him but I don't miss what became of "us". I wish him well though. But enough about that.. it was nice running into my friend. We walked around downtown and she ended up helping me with my banking.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Why does it take a minute to say hello and forever to say goodbye?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Thursday, February 22, 2007

Among all these "girls" you'll be able to spot one super girl... Jane. She's far from being fake and is prettier than these plastic girls. Barbie doesn't have anything on ya Jane...ㅋㅋㅋ

Ok, trust me, no matter what you say, I've heard it all and so has he. And no, he doesn't get more TV channels for me. My poor little Mi Nam. Post-poning a soccer game on the account of the cone really sucks.

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, February 22

1. When I was in Canada, I got the chance to sit down with my good friend Andy (Andrew). We got into this huge deep discussion about people in our lives and how people come into our lives either for a reason, season or life. I totally hear what he's saying and agree with him but took the discussion in a different route by saying that I think there's a reason for everything, not just people, and although we may not know the reason, God does. I don't believe in luck or fluke; things just don't happen by themselves and I don't believe they happen without a purpose. One thing may have to happen as a means of getting you to a different point, like a kind of stepping stone I suppose. Well, as you know, I'm now back in Korea and am slowly adjusting back to things here but lately I've really been contemplating a lot of things and trying to figure out these "stepping stones" I've been encountering... which brings me to Jane; a new friend of mine. So, meet my friend Jane. She's super cute, super talented, super artistic and if she were any more sweet to me, I'd get a cavity for sure!!! Thanks Jane for all your messages. You're awesome! And no, don't worry about Hyun Bin... I'm not a celebrity groupie. I just think he's hot so don't go killing his girlfriend... ㅋㅋㅋ
2. Hit the gym and checked out the renovations. They were closed for a bit when I was in Canada. It looked great and I like the fresh modern spin they took on the interior, however, the didn't do anything with the old equipment. Instead, they just moved it around and shuffled it more into the corners so that there's this huge empty space in the middle... for what and why, well, that's beyond me.
3. Must admit that Mi Nam is probably the saddest looking dog this side of the globe. The poor little guy sits looking at himself in my huge hall mirror and walks around with his ears down. He's on medication and that really bothered his stomach today. No sooner had I returned from the gym that he then puked all over my new Nike Shox shoes... actually, he did it a total of 3 times! Thankfully by the 2nd time I learned my lesson and snatched up the shoes just in time... just in time for him to then puked like an inch from my toes! Nasty! Poor little guy. My heart crumbles to see him so sad.
4. Admit that I have a problem... I love msn and now with my web cam up and running and all my friends logging on like 24/7, I just... can't... stop... must... have... more.... m..s..n!!! Ha, ha, ha.
5. Chatted it up with Errol and had a good laugh when we both realized I was sitting there drinking out of a cup that once was his. I guess he now knows me and the others raided his apartment when he left Korea...ha, ha, ha. If there was one person I could vote back to Korea, it'd definitely be him. I still remember how heartbroken I was when I discovered his empty apartment... he had ran away the night before and I was suppose to had visited him but I was too tired, dang!
6. Was totally bombarded with lots of smiles and giggles when I showed up to see Sue tonight. I love that little girl, she's just so incredibly smart and it just blows my mind how much pressure she's under at the age of 7!!! Us three girls (Sue, her mom and I) sat back and chatted up a storm. They loved my whole stolen purse story... mind ya, my re-enactment was quite comical as I jumped around the room and flung my arms around...ha, ha, ha.
7. While waiting for my taxi, a man called out to me. He was this super cute Korean guy dressed in a stylish leather jacket, trendy jeans, sleek eye glasses and wearing a tuk. Honestly, I had no idea who he was until I recognized the truck he just got out of... it was Sue's dad. Wow, there's no way you'd ever think this guy was a doctor.
8. Am convinced Sue's mom has the perfect life... she's young, beautiful, super sweet, has an incredibly intelligent and super awesome daughter, she pays others to cook for her, has the hard-working totally hot doctor for her husband (and up until meeting him I was convinced hot doctors were only in TV dramas... ha, ha, ha), travels to exotic places, and lives in a ultra posh pimping apartment that overlooks the mountains.
9. Thanks Do Chun for reminding me all about the "Dating Game" by reading the very rules that I wrote... ha, ha, ha. If you care to amuse yourself, here's the link to my rules. I've modified them a bit.

My Top Ten Rules for Dating

Word of advice guys, .. rent the movie "Hitch" starring Will Smith.
10. Text messages galore on my cell phone tonight from my middle school students reminding me to come to school tomorrow. I've been dreading tomorrow for weeks now cause tomorrow the staff and students will be having a farewell ceremony for a couple of us teachers who are moving on to other schools. I had gone to Lottemart tonight to buy thank you gifts and well, I definitely put it off to the last minute. It's not that I'm lazy by any means, instead, I really don't want to have to deal with it or think about the reality of it all. Reality being that it's over, I'm now at Dankook.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How am I going to be able to say good-bye to them?

Are you listening to me?

Do Chun and his little mini-me, Bryon. I'd ask for some of that hot chocolate but Bryon doesn't look like he'd share it... I don't blame him either. ㅋㅋㅋ.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, February 21

1. Wow, I leave the country for three weeks and Korea goes and changes it's currency. They've changed the look, made them smaller and then made the pink 1000 won bill blue. I personally liked the bigger sized bills... made me feel richer.
2. Despite the warm weather that greeted me back to Korea, I still believe Canada's sky is prettier. It may be warm out and yesterday I walked around with a t-shirt on, but looking up to a grayish blue sky just isn't so sweet.
3. Played a hardcore game of indoor soccer with Mi Nam and twisted my ankle a bit when I tried to trick him and go in for the goal. Mi Nam kicked my butt though.
4. Trying to get a new bank card, which should have been easy, turned into a tour around Cheonan. They said I was lucky to be reissued a card considering I don't have my alien card anymore (both cards were in my stolen purse). Lucky... me? May I remind them I had to deal with THEM! I consider them lucky that there were witnesses and so I couldn't freak out. Ok, so it wasn't that bad but I almost got royally screwed over.
5. Both Mi Nam and I had doctor's appointments today. I had to visit the skin specialist again about my allergic reaction and, like routine, they gave me a shot in the butt! Unfortunately, this time it was more like getting stabbed. It seems like no matter what you go in for at the doctor's here in Korea, they're always so eager to shot ya in the butt. My legs hurt... needle in the butt. I have a cold... needle in the butt. My head aches... needle in the butt. I think they just like my Polish butt... ㅋㅋㅋ
6. When I returned to Korea last Saturday I had noticed a little bit of skin troubles on Mi Nam and so today Kim Tae and I took him to the vet. And, like always, Mi Nam got sick being in the car. Thankfully this time he puked when we got out... it was more like an emergency "jump-out now or else" situation though.
7. Impressing the socks off the vet with my Korean was definitely cool. Mind ya, he kind of reacted funny when I knew the word for penis... I picked that word up from my kindergarten kids oddly enough! Now I'm stuck with having to decide on whether or not I should neuter my little guy. Hmmm.... Having to hold him down while the vet picked at his skin and did testing was hard enough for me, but now having to decide on this one, ya, Mi Nam's really not impressed. The vet says it'll calm him down... calm him down? What? Any more calmer and he'll be dead! Mi Nam only really plays when I initiate it and he only walks around cause he's following me around the house.
8. Sushi time!!! A few years ago you wouldn't catch me dead eating raw fish, but now, wow... I'm all over it like a fat kid on a smartie, dang!!!
9. Text message chats on my cell with Do Chun lead way for one funny chat via msn and web cam. Ya, that's right... I used your Korean name as oppose to your English name. I like it better cause the name "Johnny" is the name of one of my more "interesting fans" here...ㅋㅋㅋ
10. My poor Mi Nam is now Mr. Cone Head... he seems quite depressed having to wear it and I feel embarrassed for him but he has to wear it. Having to rub Mi Nam's ointment on him and then squirting medicine into his mouth before we go to bed really sucked and so I babied him large and let him sleep on my mat with me.

Poor little piggy... it didn't even stand I chance. Tough times call for tough measures... sorry.

Here's Wild Child in all her glory as she bounces up and down on her bed parading the new t-shirt I got her in Toronto. The man at the store claimed it wasn't fit for a 7 year old and instead was for a 2 year old... I knew it'd fit her perfectly! Korean children aren't average children... they're super tiny cute dolls ;)

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, February 20

1. Today was by far one of the longest days of my life! Last night I had crashed at 6pm and so this morning I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 4am... yup, my day started even before the crack of dawn. Woke up at 4am, went to be at 11pm... for a grand total of 19 hours awake. Yikes!
2. At 4:30am I heard some noises coming from my front door... it was Kim Tae. He was a bit "out-of-it" and totally blamed it on me. Nice, good morning to you too.
3. I went back to trying to figure out my web cam. After fiddling around with it, I finally figured out how to re-install it and had it up and running for Kobe's amusement.
5. Dealing with Kim Tae today was far from successful. I had asked him to help me out today cause well, let's be honest, a simple trip to the doctors or whatnot is never really easy when there's a language barrier, that's obvious. Moreover, he's got a truck and so it's a lot easier to go with him than it is for me to figure out how to get to these places or have to shill out the cash to taxi it there. But Kim Tae was all upset cause well, I can't agree to say what he so eagerly wants to hear and so he left me alone here... and Kobe saw the whole thing go down on web cam, ouch!
6. After Kim Tae left, I had to figure out a game plan. I had an important meeting at my university, doctor's appointment, had to visit the bank, take Mi Nam to the vet, head over to Wild Child's house, and then hit the gym. Well, I ended up only getting two of those things done... the university meeting and visiting Wild Child.
7. Mind ya, with no Korean cash on hand and no bank card, I was forced to do something drastic... I killed my pig! Yup, it's sad but it's true. After almost a year of feeding my hot pink pig 1000 won bills, I ripped him open and counted the cash. No sooner had I killed the pig than Kim Tae returned and tried to offer me money as a way of bandaging up the situation and making things better. It was too late. Later on, when I returned home, he surprised me with the world's biggest purple pig... that really wasn't necessary and it didn't impress me.
8. Looks like I'll be off to Japan next Thursday, possibly. Today I sat down with Ki-Dong and Sean at my university to discuss things. No real schedule is set up yet for classes but I'm still pushing to have Wednesday off. It was so great to see Ki-Dong again, he's awesome. When I was in Canada struggling with the whole purse situation and whatnot, he totally helped me out and emailed me every day, sometimes even 2-3 times a day!
9. A trip out to Wild Child's house tonight almost cost me my hearing, literally. She was so happy to see me that she wouldn't stop screaming and clapping. Her little sister, monkey see monkey do, was the same way. I guess I missed her too... a tad bit, ok, maybe a little more than a tad bit. And I'll admit, after the super long day I had today, it was pretty nice to be smothered with hugs and kisses even if it meant having ringing ears.. ha, ha, ha.
10. Well, it's 11pm and I'm off to bed but do you know where your children are? Better yet, do you know where your panties are? You think I'm joking, I'm not. Among us lurks a pantie thief. His name is Pantie Boy. Rumor has it he only takes old ones... seriously! Any one of us could be his next victim so be careful cause you never know who he could be. He could be that guy on myspace, the country hero fighting war, or the quiet guy who goes to the library to read the books!!! All I know is this "hobby" of his started back in kindergarten and apparently it grew from there. And on that note, I'm going to bed... but not before I go and count my own...ㅋㅋㅋ! [TRUE STORY!!!]

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Did you seriously think after telling me a story like that I'd not post about it?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
It's a bird, it's a plane, no... it's Pantie Boy!

Monday, February 19, 2007

This little guy may drool on my floors, snore way too loud, chew on my toes, and make weird grunting noises at times, but I wouldn't trade him in for the world.

Kim Tae, what are you doing to Mi Nam? Poor Mi Nam doesn't seem to like not being the only guy here. ㅋㅋㅋ

Highlights of my Day... Monday, February 19

1. I'm convinced I've got the luxurious penthouse suite here in jail cause besides Kim Tae coming to visit me and bringing me food, I haven't ventured outside and I'm feeling somewhat trapped. Ok, so it's not jail here but I definitely am feeling confined. With no money on hand and my bank card being in my stolen purse, I can't go buy food and even if I had money, most places around here are probably closed cause of the holiday. So, I've stayed inside since I got here. It's kind of a shame too cause it looks so nice outside. I'm just not motivated though to do anything. I'm struggling adjusting back to life here in Korea and for the first time in two years, I really miss Canada. I never thought I'd ever be homesick for Canada but now I am.
2. Got to chat with some friends online, mainly Kobe and Yong. I really miss Kobe and I'm totally looking forward to seeing Yong. Both guys have been amazing to me and so I know I have them to thank for keeping me grounded.
3. Well Yong, after staying awake all night, at 8am I tried what you had suggested. It didn't work! Instead of it causing me to fall asleep like I had hoped, it made me super hyper and so by 10am I was bouncing off the walls!
4. By noon I was still wired and was trying to master a choreographed dance routine I came across on the web. Wow... talk about amazing cardio...ㅋㅋㅋ Poor Mi Nam almost lost a leg while I jumped around and busted a move...ㅋㅋㅋ
5. Trouble Boy called me up today to tell me that this weekend will be his last days in Korea... oh my gosh! He and I aren't exactly good friends but we're friends. He's one of those people that randomly pops up in my life once in awhile. I guess I just assumed he'd be here as long as me. He had once talked about extending his contract with the Air Force but, obviously, he's changed his mind. I really don't know how I feel about him leaving. Hopefully though, I'll be able to post-pone my Japan trip so that I can at least go out to Songtan and spend some time with him before he leaves.
6. No sooner did I get word from Trouble Boy than I got word from this guy Darrius I know. He's also with the Air Force and as it turns out, his days are numbered too. He, Darnell and Rick will all be leaving soon. I had met Darrius through Darnell, back in the day when Darnell was my closest English friend here. I stopped hanging out with that crew though cause of the whole situation that went down with Darnell (I'll just leave it at that). Darrius and Rick email me sometimes so it's not like we're close friends. None the less though, everyone is leaving me here. Wow! Looks like Gangster-G is my only English friend left in Songtan.
7. As if my day wasn't retarded enough, drama with Kim Tae continued on and stuff really hit the fan today, wow did it ever! It reached an all-time high today and left us both in tears, more so him than me! This isn't cool. I felt super terrible having to push him away from me cause I do care a lot about him but I just can't do this. Holy intense!
8. Leave it to Mi Nam to cheer me up. As I sat there trying to deal with Kim Tae, Mi Nam was busy trying to chew on my toes and it tickled so

much. I couldn't help but bust out in a giggle. I love my little guy... Mi Nam is awesome!
9. After a heated argument we both took a breather and then came back to sit down for lunch; Korean style pizza... I love it. It was loaded with sausages, corn and sweet potato... delicious!
10. By 6pm I was so tried and so I crashed. Woke up and Kim Tae was gone. It was dark and I had no idea where I was for a moment or two.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
When will things return to normal?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.

This for you Yong... you had joked about starting a fan club for me... I thought it was funny but wow, I really do have fans out there! ㅋㅋㅋ. So, now the question is, do you want to be the president of my fan club?! ㅋㅋㅋ

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, February 18

1. To be perfectly honest with you, I'm having a lot of problems sleeping lately. Whether it was stressing over leaving Canada or now dealing with the whole time zone differences, I just can't fall asleep.
2. Last night I had arrived in Korea late. I was quite tired cause I hadn't sleep on the plane but, due to the whole situation with you-know-who, I was quite stressed and so my mind was working on overload with little to none fuel. So, instead of hitting the sack, I stayed up, unpacked all my bags, did some laundry, worked on my homepage, and then found myself finally going to bed at 8am! So between coming home and going to sleep, I wasted 8 hours and really have no recollection of all that I did.
3. Woke up around 3pm to all this noise in my house... my phone was ringing, my text messages were beeping, and someone was going crazy on my doorbell. There was no way I was getting up and so, instead, I buried my head under my pillow to drown it all out; it worked.
4. Woke up a little later. The doorbell was still ringing in my head and so I swung open my front door to discover no one there but a bag. Inside the bag there was lunch and banana milk... I love banana milk. I was so excited... ha, ha, ha. What a pleasant surprise.
5. Kim Tae showed up with a special traditional Korean soup that his mom made specifically for New Year's. It tasted fishy but considering the fact that my fridge consisted of pasta sauce, pickled garlic, pickles, kimchi, and two eggs that I'm sure are as hard as rocks, my options were very limited and so I knew now wasn't the time to be picky. So, I held my breath and ate it... it was good! Thanks Mama Kim!
6. No sooner had Kim Tae showed up but then I totally past out on the couch.
7. Woke up to my phone going buzzing across the hardwood floor and Mi Nam eagerly waiting to pounce on it. It was Trouble Boy. Dang... I've only been back in the country for a day (if that) and he's already calling on me. He tried to persuade me to come out to Songtan but, considering the fact that he's one step away from being renamed Drama Boy, I opted out.
8. Gangster-G called me up next. He was successful with changing my mind about Songtan and so I got up, got dolled up and was ready to go... but then... oops, I sat down and then it was lights out for me, again!
9. Woke up a few hours later and by that time it was too late for me to head out to Songtan.
10. So much for celebrating the New Year tonight. I woke up wide-eyed and full of energy around midnight. Oh my gosh... I'm still on Canadian time!!!

Playing around with Mi Nam... wow, he's getting so big!

Thanks Lawrence for the picture... it's a Korean hot dog, hey, I didn't say that... Lawrence did. ㅋㅋㅋ

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, February 17

1. After a long restless trip filled with nasty airplane food, swollen feet, mocha balls with my Japanese sitting partner, loads of jokes and giggles with the flight attendants, endless gazing out the window, movies with the Korean guy, I finally arrived two hours late in Japan.
2. With only 40 minutes until my connecting flight was to take off, I hustled through the crowd and bolted it to the boarding gate. I arrived just in the nick of time... cool!
3. My flight to Japan was a short one so there was no movie or music provided. Mind ya, they did however serve a meal and, I'm convinced, if I see another airplane meal I'm going to be sick.
4. I didn't have any sitting partners on this flight and so I was able to spread out on all three chairs and catch about an hour of some much needed sleep... finally!
5. Finally hour what felt like endless days of travel, I arrived in Korea. I was greeted at the airport by an overly smiley Kim Tae. He drove me home where I was then incredibly shocked and so happy to arrive to a spotless, sweet smelling home. Kim Tae had cleaned it inside and out.
6. Oh my gosh... my baby, Mi Nam. Since I've been away he's blown up in size and is quite the little man now! Wow! He looks like he's gained about 5 lbs, his shoulders are more broad, his head grew a bit and so now his ears don't look so overbearing on his head, and although he still looks like a puppy, he's really starting to look like a strong bulldog. I was so happy to see him and so within a minute or two of me smothering him with kisses and hugs, I was covered from head to toe with his white fur...ㅋㅋㅋ
7. On a sad note, I think I totally broke Kim Tae's heart tonight. Tonight he surprised me with this heart box of chocolates and an awesome Valentine's Day picture show on my computer that he had taken so much time to plan. I watched it... wow! He then presented a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
8. It was brilliant... it was beautifully innocent and incredibly sweet BUT I killed it and ended it there by telling him that I think this will be my last year in Korea. I can't be to him what he deserves and what is right. He deserves someone who's just as in love with him as he is with them. I am not that girl.
9. And on that note, he left. I felt like the worse person alive.
10. Trying to fall asleep was out of the question and so instead I chatted online with Kobe and Yong and then started to unpack.

Can we just go back to where we use to be?

Friday, February 16, 2007

This is me trying to kill time in the airport after finding out my flight has been postponed yet again!

Highlights of my Day... Friday, February 16

1. How ironic... on this day, exactly two years ago, I was leaving Canada to venture to Korea for my first time. Now here I am leaving again, but I will be back. I've had an awesome trip and I know I have many friends and family to thank for that. I guess I really didn't realize how much I love Toronto and the life I had here until I left and then came back into the scene. It's going to be so hard to leave you all again. I've been dreading this day since the day I arrived. I am eager to start my new job in Korea cause I know it's going to be an awesome experience but I can't help but want to be with my friends in Toronto. I miss Toronto a lot and miss all the things I use to do and could do...

I want to get back into the ring with Egerton

go hardcore with boxing again
have more long nights with my Bloor Boys
train again at System Fitness with the big boys

eat at a breakfast restaurant without having to take a subway to get there
be a better aunt to my niece
I want to be here to celebrate when Andi becomes a mommy
see what becomes of the village
be a better friend to my friends here and see them more than once a year
I want more of Colin's cooking
learn more dance moves from Jeffery
friends dropping by
silly jokes with the Pollack
see just how sweet Kobe is
spend hours on the boardwalk
venture to more beautiful restaurants with Graeme and Madi

drink more Tim Horton's coffee
scream my head off at a Rapture's game
run into more random people I know
ride my BMX
Shakespeare in the park

cruise around in Jimmy's truck
Hockey nights in Canada
runs through High Park
hear more English (you laugh but it's true)
eat more of my mom's cookies
sit in on more life's lessons from my dad.

My life in Korea is SO different than here in Canada. I will miss you all... you have NO idea!!!

2. No sooner had I put my make-up on in the morning but then I cried it all off. Saying good-bye to Kobe really sucked and I was so embarrassed when I walked into a house full of sleeping beauties. Apparently my friend had had a party last night and so there were sleeping bodies everywhere. I couldn't see cause of my teary eyes and cause it was dark, so I ended up accidentally stepping on some people. Oops.
3. My parents picked me up in Toronto and off we headed to Pearson International Airport. Just our luck, we showed up early and then were informed that my flight had been delayed for another hour and a half. Had to change my connecting flight.
4. With extra time to kill, I was able to get in one last cup of Tim Horton's coffee. I will miss you Timmy!!! Starbucks in Korea just doesn't cut it!
5. Flight was delayed for another hour cause they didn't have a plane available for us. A plane from Vancouver came in and so they pushed us on, loaded up with fuel and then took off. I wasn't really comfortable with them rushing though... are we going to crash?! I was sure I'd have to change my connecting flight again and so I wasn't impressed, no one was. Word of the wise... don't go with Air Canada if you want to arrive on time!
6. Finally, I boarded the plane. My sitting partner to Japan was a super cute Japanese woman who's English was pretty good but who's knowledge of Toronto was quite impressive. We sat there drinking Japanese tea and munching on my mom's to-die-for mocha cookie balls. Mom, two thumbs up from my sitting partner. She loved them!
7. While my Japanese sitting partner slept, I wiggled around in my seat, eagerly desperate to fall asleep. It seemed no matter what I did, I just couldn't fall asleep. Apparently I wasn't the only one. Ended up changing seats for a bit and sitting with this Korean dude who had brought a mini DVD player on the flight.
8. After hours of restless sitting on that crowded plane and flying way above the clouds, we came across this totally remote village. For hours I hadn't seen anything but clouds and mountains and then this cluster of lights. It was awesome... how do I get there?
9. Despite Air Canada disorganization, messing around with the flight schedule, and cheap nasty meals, I will say that their flight attendants are awesome! On my flight home I ended up having one of the same flight attendants I had when I was traveling to Canada, some weeks ago. He remembered little about me but remembered the fact that I drank way too much milk on the plane... ha, ha, ha. Yup, I'm a milk monster.
10. Oh my gosh... my feet totally swelled up while we were in the air and so I couldn't put my shoes on. They swelled up like a balloon and so it felt so strange. I had a good time joking around about it with some of the flight attendants. One attendant offered to rub them but wow, I couldn't do it. Even I don't touch my feet... ha, ha, ha.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Are we there yet?
