As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, February 24

1. Have you ever woke up and had that awful feeling down in your stomach that something is just not right? Ya, well, I totally woke up to that today. I knew something was wrong but didn't know what. I looked around my house, nope, nothing wrong there. Mi Nam was ok, I was ok but still, I knew something was wrong. Then I checked out my emails...
2. Apparently the other day my cousin went to the doctor's to get a rash checked out and, while still there, he collapsed on the floor, dead. This is now the second family member I've lost since I've been here in Korea and I hate it. I hate this feeling of not being able to be there for my family to see this through and so that they can comfort me too. This has got to be the worst feeling in the world.
3. Sticking around the house wasn't an option I gave myself, considering the situation, and so I headed off to the gym to relieve some stress and surround myself with people. Ran into the new trainer and he was all smiles to see me and he said he missed me while I was in Canada... ahhh, so cute. Thanks! He promised me he'd study English more so that we can become good friends. Nice guy.
4. Sweeeeet! Got my somewhat official schedule from Dankook University and am happy to say that Ki-Dong totally hooked me up with Wednesdays off; he's awesome! Thanks dude! Having Wednesdays off totally is a sweet break in the middle of the week! Sooooooo great!

Monday: 1 - 5pm
Tuesday: 3 - 7pm
Wednesday: day off
Thursday: 1 - 5pm
Friday: 1 - 7pm

5. Still wasn't up to par and so I headed out to Songtan for my monthly dose of "foreign blood"... ha, ha, ha. I really don't care for Songtan but it's nice to visit once in awhile (I get to practice my English there... ha, ha, ha). Ended up hooking up with Gangster Boy and his 5 buddies at "Chilli's" for dinner. One of Gangster Boy's buddies tried to totally pick on me cause I was the only Canadian there. I argued that Canada has always been the "Friendly Neighbor" to other countries whereas America has always been viewed as the "Bully". He thought he'd be smart and come back with, "You better be careful.. hey guys, let's take over Canada". Nice... my point proven right there. It was all jokes... he being the punchline, ouch!
6. Got into Yong Chan club... wow! They're still "anti-Canadians" but Greg worked his magic again. He went up to the main door dude and remind him of me, his "wife"..ha, ha, ha. Apparently Greg went there the other night and the staff asked him, "Hey, where's your wife?" Oh gosh... we're so far from being a married couple. We're just two friends, but we won't go telling them that! They must think we have one weird open relationship cause Greg is all about egging me on and trying to get me to talk to random guys but, for the most part, it doesn't work. I'm just here to have fun with my friends.
7. Holy awkwardness... walked into a TOTAL sausage fest where I was one of three female customers in the joint. Wow! I quickly looked for a familiar face and just my luck, he was the biggest dude there and so I stuck close to him. He humoured me by picking on this old lady, I think she worked there. His plan backfired though and she ended up continually poking him and eyeing me. That was my exit cue!
8. I've got a new fan... sooo funny! His name is Casey and he knows Gangster Boy. He had made up this huge story about us going to the same university and so I thought it was funny but the real entertainment came when he tried to do some silly poll dance and then ended up yelling at some other guy for dancing on the poll after him. Oh gosh. Later he tracked me down at Yong Chan club. He tried hard to get my attention and ,well, dropping drinks definitely did that.
9. Witnessed the world's worst attempt at break dancing. Seriously boys, get up. Maybe I should have invited them out to Cheonan to let them see my Cheonan B-Boys break it down for them. Cheonan B-Boys would chew those dudes up, embarrass them, and then leave them with their months wide open, confused as to what they just saw. Step aside!
10. Trouble Boy came out to say hi to me. He's leaving this week and so I thought it nice to say goodbye to him. It's funny cause regardless of how I complain about his stalking-like behaviour, I will miss him. Having him in Songtan meant I always ran into a familiar face and he always worried about me. Mind ya, looks like Gangster Boy will be in Songtan till March 2008 and so that's cool.... cool for me, not so cool for him. He really misses his family and his kids.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you remember my name?

Funny how gut feeling works..........that is very unfortunate about your cousin. I hope you are still able to feel a sense of ease even across the miles. Sorry about the loss Amy :(

Sorry to hear about your cousin. I know how hard it is to not be able to be with family at a time like this; I lost my grandmother while in Korea. Hopefully you can call home often even if you can't express your condolences in person.
