As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Hightlights of my Day... Saturday, May 19

1. Once again I found yet another 100 and 1 ways to distract myself from doing the things I needed to do but, I will say this, my house is now sparkling clean. I cleaned my house from top to bottom.

2. Even managed to give Mi Nam a bath… never a fun task.

3. I was the butt of the jokes at training tonight with Buff Boy after he noticed all the scratch marks on my arms and shoulders… thanks to Mi Nam and his bath. Buff Boy and Newbie joked around about it and I ended up getting called “Playgirl”… ya, thanks. I’m but the farthest thing from being a Playgirl. After all, my usual Friday night consists of me curling up on the couch with Mi Nam and studying Korean.

4. Trained chest today and I so know I’m going to wake up in pain tomorrow.

5. Got an email from Mr. Kim from my boxing gym in Seoul. I had agreed to fight this Japanese girl that’d be visiting Korea next month but I cancelled after I took almost three weeks off of weight training cause of midterms. I’ve been training but not training the way that’s appropriate for a fight. I’m actually considering stopping my boxing which is quite depressing and so today I was so stressed when I got his email. He wants to schedule me another fight. This Japanese chick is an animal though!!! Put boxing gloves on the girl from the movie “The Grudge” and that’s exactly what she’s like… super scary!!!

6. On my way home from training, I stopped by the park where these kids I know were playing basketball. I sat there watching and then my mind drifted off to my boxing. When I was in Canada, I was spending an arm and a leg on my boxing training. I was training like an animal with a Canadian silver-medalist. I had no intentions of becoming a pro-boxer but instead, my intentions were to fight, build up my status and then train others on the side. I had some sponsors looking to sponsor me and my trainer wanted me to get into the business, after all, I love teaching and so I thought it’d be really cool to teach something that’s a huge passion of mine. But then I came to Korea and this put the plans on hold. I don’t know if I can keep holding off these plans and so I’ve really contemplating whether or not I want to invest my money, effort and time into it anymore. It’s bad enough I feel like the gym freak at training, it’s another feeling to not really know if I’ll do anything with my boxing here.

7. The silly and not-so-silly tricks to my success:
a. Fruits in the morning, veggies ALL day
b. VERY limited intake of grain products, especially bread. (Gotta eat my rice though… hehehe)
c. DRASTICALLY limited my milk in take (SO hard… I’m use to drinking 1 litre a day)
d. I drink cider (it’s like Z-up) when eating out at a Korean BBQ restaurant cause it helps me feel full faster. I do this only cause I tend to ignore my “I-am-full” switch… hehehe.
e. Cardio FIRST THING in the morning, 4 mornings a week. I switch it up between my retarded stair climbing cardio (ALMOST impossible), and jogging/treadmill.
f. Weight training in the afternoon/early evening, 5-6 days a week.
g. It’s suggested that in order to maintain muscle and benefit from training, that you eat your weight in protein. So, after cardio I drink one protein shake and I usually eat a can of tuna after my weight training.
h. A little bit of abs every other day before bed.
i. No heavy foods (ie. meat) after 8pm.
j. Most of my meals are loaded with veggies and/or soup. (In Korea this is easy cause of all the side dishes they bombard you with).
k. Lately I’ve been trying to drink TONS of water (Not only does this help flush my system but it keeps me stay hydrated during my workouts and the hot weather)
l. I take a dietary supplement (Women’s Ultra Mega by GNC) to help me get all the vitamins and whatnot I may not be getting from my foods.
(side note… I’m terrible for getting distracted with things and skipping meals unintentionally)

8. Spent a good solid couple of hours in the afternoon studying Korean.

9. Late in the evening I met up with Hannah. We headed over to this really funky bar downtown and convinced Je Min to come join us. The three of us are always jokes when we’re together! Tonight they taught me some silly Korean counting hand game and, like all Korean hand games, there’s abuse involved for the loser. Tonight’s loser was Hannah and so by the time we left the bar, her arm was all red from the game…hehehe.

10. By the time I got home, it was around 3am. A night out with my K-Crew had totally cheered me up from my “I’m-missing-Pretty-Boy” blues. But when I got home I was super eager to talk to him. I had texted messaged him while I was out and at 3:30am he called me. I guess all my messages had woken him. Good news…. He’ll be in Cheonan this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday for his days off… sweet!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Is there such thing as a "marrying-type"?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God's business.

You CUT DOWN on your regular 1 litre of milk a day???

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

If I don't recall, in university we all use to call you THE MILK MUNCHER! You'd come to pysh. class with your litre of milk and then chug it down by breaktime.

This is insane!

I thought for sure by now you'd have your own cow and would be signing up for calcium deposit removal surgery like your buddy Doug Gilmor!

Where's my MILK MUNCHER?
