As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, September 26

1. Happy Chusok everyone! To those who don’t know, Chusok is the Korean Thanksgiving and it’s probably the biggest holiday here in Korea… numerous stores and restaurants are closed, highways are jammed with people traveling to their relatives, and this week I don’t have to work till Thursday… sweet. The Solar New Year is the second biggest holiday here.

2. With almost all of my friends out of the city for the holiday, I was stuck entertaining myself here in Cheonan. So, on that note, I decided to go for a walk and see just what was open and what was closed. Turns out the mall was open, numerous shops weren’t, but Kimbab Chunkuk was open and so I headed there for lunch.

3. Apparently having a boyfriend gets me more than just kisses and sweet talk… today it scored me a free lunch at Kimbab Chunkuk. You see, the manager there has known me for well over 2 years now. She first met me when I was “Ryan and Me” and so from the start she was always curious about me… a western gal dating a Korean hottie. Since my long ago break-up with Byung Ryang (Ryan), I eat alone at Kimbab Chunkuk. Sometimes Hanna joins me and once or twice others have joined me but, for the most part, I sit in my usual corner seat as the solo girl. Occasionally the manager questions me about whether or not I have a boyfriend. Today I told her I had a new boyfriend and she got all excited. My happy news caused a huge smile to grace her face, a hug and got me a free meal… sweet!

4. Walked past that dude who sold me my cheap brown boots (which I love but nonetheless will admit that the quality isn’t the best). He smiled at me and motioned for me to come in his shop but I kept on walking. I am by no means interested in dealing with his flirtatious comments today.

5. Late in the evening I decided to finally have dinner and so I took Mi Nam with me to Kimbab Chunkuk to get take-out. I decided to take the side roads, to avoid the cars and people but on our way there some dude in a car stopped to ask me directions… in English. He asked me where the train station was and well, I live downtown and the KTX train station is all the way across town. In trying to give him directions, he then interrupted me to ask me where I was going, my age, my name, and then he asked me about a hotel... I knew what he was suggesting.

6. My response to the man in car: “Oh… I know YOUR name. Your name is Byun Tae (= pervert in Korean)”, and with that I kicked his car as hard as I could. Apparently the man at the corner store who knows me (and who’s about 50) watched the whole thing go down and so when he heard me scream out “Byun Tae” (pervert) he can racing over. The car sped away and the old man chased the car. The car got away but the man returned and was all concerned about me. I was more concerned that he almost killed himself running like that!!!

7. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, while waiting outside Kimbab Chunkuk with Mi Nam, waiting for my take-out food, some drunk old man approached me, muttered something to me in Korean and then tried to scare Mi Nam with his bad impression of an angry dog. I was absolutely in no mood to deal with another rude dude and so I tugged at Mi Nam’s leash and yelled out, “Kill… Mi Nam kill!” Not too sure whether or not the man understood but the students in the restaurant did. They all laughed while the old man and I exchanged dirty looks.

8. Returned home all ticked off and a bit shaken. I love Korea but I really don’t like stupid people. There should be some kind of law against stupid people. Maybe we should just put muzzles on them or something… so that they don’t spread their stupidity.

9. Finally got down to work tonight around 10pm. I am the queen of procrastination!

10. Hero of the night: Seo!!! He surprised me tonight by telling me that he’s coming to visit me this weekend… wow, cool! His news just totally made my night... actually, my week!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Is anyone else having problems with Blogger or is it just me?
