1. With a big bruise still on my left cheek and my left eye still sporting a small cut from Friday’s fight with Milk Dud, I rushed into school for first period. First period students are all sports majors with relatively low energy levels… hehehe. Gotta love Ji Eun though, my super sweet student who always brings energy to class. Thank you Ji Eun!!!
2. So today stress was definitely hovering in the teachers’ room as Ki Dong, Sunny and I tried to figure out what to do about my Friday dilemma. My dilemma being that I now have to be in Seoul when my classes are on… which I obviously can’t possibly do both. Have you ever wanted something so bad that you think about it so much it gives you a headache?! Well, that’s this Friday’s fight for me. Needless to say, I felt like I was walking on pins and needles today, eagerly and nervously awaiting the verdict on Friday.
3. During my office hours one of my last semester students visited me and he was just what I needed… a distraction from me thinking 24/7 about boxing. Mind ya, he’s also a boxer and so we sat there talking about boxing.
4. Ummm… holy awkward moment. Today I got hit on by one of my students… a female student who eyed me from head to toe and then told me she loves my body. I was caught off guard but said thanks. Her reply, “No, like I really love your body”. Not sure how to deal with that.
5. Ki Dong interrupted my second class to tell me that one of my coworkers has agreed to teach my Friday classes for me so that I can go fight!!! I was so happy! My smile instantly stretched from ear to ear and I raced back to class, jumping up and down and telling students that I loved them… hehehe. I’m sure they thought I was crazy… hehehe. I didn’t care, I was sooooo happy!
6. My huge burst in energy lasted well into my third class and so as the students filed in the class, I blurted out my good news and scored major high fives… hehehe. After class I talked to one of my senior students about it. I told him to get a good look at my face cause next week I plan on proudly displaying a much earned, much fought for black eye… hehehe. He said he’ll laugh at me… nice… hehehe.
7. I was supposed to meet up with Giggle Girl Jr. today but I cancelled on the account that I was so exhausted. By the end of last class my energy had left me super tired and my body desperately craving sleep.
8. Intended on taking a short cat nap. Oops… my cat nap turned into a 3 hour sleep. I had slept through weight training and woke up with just enough time to get my butt to boxing.
9. Frustrations at boxing tonight. My body is just so exhausted. Junior Mint is my biggest fan and so he’s always throwing compliments at me but I knew I wasn’t doing good tonight. At one point I pushed him. I was so frustrated with myself and so I made him do more rounds with me.
10. Totally exhausted, in pain, super drained, and soaking with sweat from head to toe, Junior Mint and I finally left the gym. It was now about 11:40pm. I had gone to boxing at 9:40pm. Junior Mint was sweet enough to treat me to tabboka after training and then he drove me home. I totally crashed after that.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Is my opponent on Friday as serious about this as I am?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
화이팅!!!
-- my students
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
