As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, December 22

1. Spent my morning trying to search out a little gift for my student In Sun. Today I was going to visit him but I didn't want to arrive empty handed. I can't bring him any kind of goodies, like snacks, cause they told me he can't exactly use his jaw. I couldn't pick out a book cause well, my Korean is good but it's not hardcore awesome and so searched out some magazines, a book bag and some health juices.

2. It took me a good hour to convince myself that I was ready to see him. Given the picture I had seen yesterday though, I was really nervous to see him. Finally I arrived at the hospital and made my way to his room. He wasn't there. The older man in the next bed said In Sun would be back soon and so I walked around the halls for a bit. Upon arriving back in his room I was approached by a young guy and a young girl. They looked about university age. I asked him if he knew In Sun. He gave a little giggle and said, "Me In Sun... Professor Michelle, hi!" I was shocked!!! He didn't look like the same handsome student who sat at the back of my classroom. He didn't look like In Sun but it was him. The girl was his sister.

3. From what I understand of his Korean, he was driving on campus when someone crashed full speed into him, sending his head crashing into the steering wheel. He claims his body is ok but everything from the shoulders up is swollen, bruised, and sore. He sat there talking to me with his bulging and swollen bloodshot eyes redder than red starring at me. The skin around his eyes were a mix of dark purples and black... it looked like he was wearing a mask. His face was completely swollen, making his mouth look incredibly small and making it almost impossible for him to move his jaw. I felt so terrible for him. I knew he must be in so much pain cause even when he laughed, he braced his face and squinted his eyes. It hurt for him to laugh.

4. I tried to joke with him, not only to make him feel better but because I could feel myself getting all choked up inside. I told him that he looked like he was wearing poorly done-up make-up... he thought that was so funny.

5. He and his sister were super sweet by walking me to the elevator where upon he turned to me and told me that he promises to visit me next year at school. I joked and told him that I look forward to seeing my handsome but not to wear that awful eye shadow.

6. My mom always says that God works in mysterious ways and today I totally felt that when no sooner had I exited the hospital in tears but someone called out my name. It was my friend Young Eun from my old neighborhood. I haven't seen him in so long. He greeted me with a huge smile and then we stood reminiscing about our old crew... he, me, Woo, and Mook. We're planning to meet up again, the old crew, in about two weeks. So great!

7. Tonight I had a party... a "Suk Jae Party", which translates into a "Homework Party"... hehehe. With tons of marking and a due date quickly approaching, Q offered to help me with my marking. Our party started off with a trip to the local chicken restaurant where we got way more than what we bargained for. We got dinner AND a "show"!!!

8. Yup, a show... live theater. At the next table sat three overly drunk ajumma's (old women) talking loudly. They then started to argue with the waitress about supposedly being overcharged, which they weren't... overly drunk yes, but not over charged. Anyways, the one ajumma (I named her "Moon Jae Ah"... it means "trouble maker") decided to pick a fight with the head waitress, who Q and I named "The Pit Bull". There was a lot of yelling and swearing but then the Pit Bull unexpectedly and forcibly grabbed Moon Jae Ah by her jacket, sending her flying to the floor. She then literally dragged Moon Jae Ah out of the restaurant, all the while about 15 guys from a local team sat and watched. I was shocked, no one tried to help. Mind ya, the Pit Bull looked like she could handle it.

9. So outside she took her and the two had it out. Lots of slapping, pushing, pulling and yelling. Two grown women who I'm sure go home every night to their husband and kids. A second waitress got called out by Moon Jae Ah's friend and so then the fight escalated to four people. Four grown women. Now that's what I call drama!!! The Pit Bull returned and so I called her over to my table to talk to her. Made sure she was alright and then offered her a drink. 15 minutes later, Moon Jae Ah and her crew of two drunk ladies returned for a rematch. It was no real rematch though. The Pitbull really couldn't be bothered to deal with some 50-year-old's drunkenness and so she immediately escorted her out and then returned working. Wow... what a woman! I was so shocked to see a Korean woman to take such control like that!

10. Needless to say, our Suk Jae Party got off to a late start cause of the unexpected live show. But once our party started, if you'd even call it that, it was all business. Two hours of marking, followed by about an hour and a half of studying Korean.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Why didn't anyone call the police?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire.
