1. It's the first day of the new year and I entered it with massive bedhead, morning breath that'd curl your hair, and pillow lines all over my face.... and a smile.
2. With Hongik Sports Center closed for the holiday, my boxing club closed as well, and same with Dankook, I wasn't left with much to do and so I went back to bed.
3. Took a morning nap.
4. Woke up, studied Korean for about an hour, and then played with Mi Nam.
5. Took an afternoon nap.
6. Woke up, went grocery shopping.
7. Took an early evening nap.
8. Woke up and then headed to the Multiplex for my movie date with Q. While I was waiting for him, some man sitting with his wife took a picture of me. He didn't take any pictures of other people, just me. Very strange. When Q arrived, I told him this. He said it was cause of my shirt... he said it looked like lingerie, which it didn't. It was merely a cream color shirt with lace trimming near the neckline. I laughed out and said to Q, "Listen here sweety, my shirt is worth more than your whole outfit and the outfits of your unborn children. So don't diss the shirt!"... hehehe.
9. I told him that tonight I dressed extra girly for him cause in a few months maybe I won't be looking so girly, according to what he defines as girly that is. I say this cause just yesterday I spilled the beans to him about wanting to be the opening fight for Black Skinny. He looked shocked when I told him about it. I guess he was under the impression that I just box for exercise. We've got this ongoing joke that I'm the soon-to-be Ms. Coca-Cola. Ya, I box cause it does wonders for my body and mind, but more importantly, I do it cause I want to see how far I can push myself and for the competition aspect of it all.
10. So Q's not so impressed with the fact that I'll be competing soon. Sporting a black eye or bruises on my face is nothing compared to the adrenaline, experience and thrill of the competition. He of all people should understand and respect this, but because I'm a girl, he doesn't really accept it. He didn't really come out and say it directly but I know that's what he is thinking. And so, on this note, I can see that my competing is going to become an obstacle between us.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Since when did me being a girl become my disadvantage?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.
-- Muhammad Ali
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Hey Amy, Happy New Year ;) 2008 is gonna be an awesome year... You're gonna be competing in Boxing, I'm gonna be competing in Geomdo comps (cutting bamboo with real swords, like, perfectly)... I've only got 10 months to go in Korea, so I wanna enjoy it.
Sometimes, obstacles get in the way. Sometimes, you gotta go around them, though them, push them out of your way, or go back, and find another way. I hope that your boxing and Q, don't make too much of an obstacle.
I understand you Amy, i have the same sport'sdrive!.And it have cost my a lot..but it's the way i am...cant control it!...as for Q..understand him to..love a girl and see her punged!..it's difficuld!
Yo Andy,
Ya for sure... 2008 is going to be THE year!!! I'd wish ya luck with your competitions but I don't believe in luck. I believe in preparation, dedication and hard work. Keep up the hard work and keep your eyes set on the goal.
Only 10 months left in Korea... wow. What are you going to do after Korea?
As for Q and my boxing, things are coming around and so it's all good.
