... I was ticked...
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Hey Amy,
That's rough. Your comment about it not being about the sport but about the country is very true. At least, that's what I experienced living in Korea when they hosted the World Cup. I thought it was all about the game of soccer, but wow! it wasn't at all. It was about country, nationalism, pride. I'd never seen anything like it, and it was the first time I'd ever personally experienced any racism in the six years I'd lived in Korea. All of a sudden I was an American above all else. American=foreigner=enemy. It was crazy! I really understand where it all comes from (past colonialism, oppression, etc.), but you're right, it's still discrimination. Don't let it deter you, though. Do your best in your fights and see what happens. It seems like you've got a lot of people supporting you who will help you fight for justice if it comes to that.
