As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Friday, August 22

1. Woke up to an overcast sky full of rain clouds. It was drizzling outside… great. I love the rainy weather but walking Mi Nam in it is another story. A story that always ends with one soaked smelly doggie.

2. Started my day off with a good full body workout at Hongik and no sooner did I start my training but I was approached by one of the Walking Ajjumas… hehehe. Unlike the rest of her crew that simply stare at me and give me funny faces, she’s always been nice to me and goes out of her way to say hello to me. Today she noticed my workout journal that I’ve started using and so she came over to look at it. Turns out she went to Vancouver once. We chatted for a bit and the conversation ended with me laughing out “I love you” after she suggested that I was prettier than the buff, beautiful fitness model on the cover of my workout journal…. Hehehe. Don’t get me wrong, I am totally flattered but I know full well that I can’t compete with that model.

3. My workout journal, surprisingly enough, has been getting a lot of attention at the gym. Apparently I am the only one that maps out a routine and then records the results during training. My buddies love flipping through the pages of it cause it’s full of beautiful buff babes and the Hongik workers like checking out my routines in it.

4. My friend Woo from my old gym in Ssangyoung-Dong is good friends with my friend The Hongik Oppa (Hongik manager) and so he’s been helping him out by working part-time at Hongik. It’s nice to be working out at the same gym as him again. I’ve known him for about 4 years now.

5. Had Korean language tutoring in the afternoon and so I raced off to Seoul for that. I hadn’t seen my teacher for about 4 weeks now and so I was eager to see her, despite studying very little. However, not only did I show up late cause of traffic, I showed up sick and without my present I had bought her in Canada… smooth.

6. When she questioned me if I had a good time in Canada, I blurted out, “Yes… I miss Canada!” It’s been hard to get back into study mode with my Korean because of the very fact that I am still very homesick. I don’t know where I’ll be next year but decided while in Canada that I can’t stay in Korea forever. Having said that though, I’ve decided that regardless of where I’ll be next year, that I need to stay focused on what I am doing here, the now. I’ve already revamped my training and so now it’s time to get more focused with my Korean studies. Who knows, my Korean language skills may lead to another wicked job… a job in Canada.

7. Finally decided it was time to get professional help… with my cold that is… hehehe…. and so I headed to one of the local pharmacies where the head pharmacist knows me. He’s a cute little man who’s always so eager to ask me about my boxing. Regardless of what I go to him for, he always blames my boxing for it and so that’s become our continual inside joke. Today he loaded me up with pills and then stashed some other random pill box in my bag. He had grabbed it from under the counter and as he placed it in my bag he looked around and then winked at me… hehehe. Score on free meds… under the counter meds… hehehe.

8. Second night off of boxing training. I had woken up today thinking I was getting better but my trip to Seoul confirmed that I was no better, worse actually.

9. By around 9:30pm I was curled up on my floor mat with Mi Nam snoring away beside me. Junior Mint texted me to see how I was and so I told him I couldn’t go into training tonight. It’s funny cause although Junior Mint is my coach/manager, he’s often so quick to take on different roles in my life. He’s my cheerleader, mentor, friend… and tonight he was a father to me, telling me that he loved me and that he missed me.

10. Q showed up sometime after I had called it a night. Not too sure what time it was but all I remember is looking up and seeing Q scoop Mi Nam up like a baby in his arms and leaving to go walk him.

QUOTE OF THE DAY…
Life is a do-it-yourself project," someone has said. Your attitudes and the choices you make today build the "house" you live in tomorrow. Build wisely!
