As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, July 31

1. Quite some time ago I bought a wicked BMX bike with trick pegs on the front and back wheels and it quickly became my trademark in the Village, Bloor West Village in Toronto that is. I was the cute little Pollack with the army hat, boxing gloves slung over my shoulder, peddling my way around the village on my BMX bike. I was BMX Girl. When I arrive in Canada this past Sunday and arrived at my parents’ house, my face lit up with a huge smile when I the garage door opened up and there, hanging from the garage ceiling, was my BMX bike.

2. I remember when I bought my BMX bike. A friend suggested I got to this one guy in Toronto, “He can get you ANY bike you want!” was what my friend repeatedly told me and he was right. The dude had no BMX bikes that I liked but he told me to come back a week later. So, a week later I came back and sure enough, as promised, he had a BMX bike for me that was exactly what I was looking for. This dudes’ bike shop went from being a one-man operation to this huge thing… huge illegal thing that is. Today I saw him on the news. He got busted last week for stealing bikes. Over 2,000 stolen bikes have been recovered… I wonder what the grand tally of stolen bikes, both sold and stored, he’s up to!!! Today I ventured over to his bike shop, it was completely gutted

3. For a good chunk of the day, I spent my time walking around downtown. I had decided to lay down in the grass in a local park but no sooner did I do that but some random guy came and sat beside me. I was rather caught off guard and a bit uncomfortable cause he was some homeless man. He asked me for money and so I returned with two sandwiches and milk, and so we ate lunch together in the park.

4. Rulla, the manager at System Fitness was sweet enough to give me a free two week membership and so I’m loving being at my old gym. It takes me about 20 minutes by subway to get to my old gym but it’s totally worth it.

5. Ran into another one of my old gym buddies who thought it was funny to hit me in the chest and ask me if I forgot to pack my chest…. hehehe… very funny, not really.
6. Grocery shopping in the Village was awesome. There’s just such a crazy selection of foods. Vegan peanut butter, skim milk, weight watchers whole wheat tortilla shells… makes it so easy to get EXACTLY what you want!!!

7. Finally saw Graeme. I’m staying at his and his girlfriend’s (Madi) house but our paths just hadn’t crossed until tonight and so the three of us ended up sitting down and chatting for a couple of hours. I love friends like this, where you can step away for years and yet when you finally meet up, it feels like no time has passed.

8. Met up with Jimmy the Greek, a guy I dated for a bit during one university summer. He was downtown at the Coldplay concert and so we went out for a late night Pita. He asked me if I call him my ex. “I don’t know… is that what you think you are?” I asked. He and I only dated for a couple of months way back in 2nd or 3rd year of university but it seems like he remembers everything about what I said, what went on between us and whatnot. He joked around and asked me, “Is this like your Ex tour?”… brutal. No, this isn’t my ex tour, although, I’ll be the first to admit that I did date my fair share of dudes. Back in the day my attention span with dudes was quite short which makes me wonder, why did Jimmy the Greek and I stop dating?! And when is someone you’re dating officially become labelled a boyfriend? He’s changed a lot in the 5 years that I haven’t seen him. He’s since gone on to become a teacher and isn’t quite the player anymore. I think that’s why we stopped. I was too into my sports and school, he was too into the girls. I remember taking Italian culture class after we split and having to see him every week in class with his little “cheerleaders” who acted more like his shadow if anything.

9. Saw a dead man slumped on the street stairwell… or so Jimmy the Greek and his friend Mike are convinced of. There were about 8 people surrounding him, trying to block our sight and then an ambulance came bolting down the street.

10. Great… just great. I haven’t even been in this country a week, or in this city (Toronto) for a full two days, and already a lot has gone down. I wonder what the rest of this trip with throw my way. Jimmy the Greek is convinced that he’s going to make my trip all worth it and so next week he’s taking me to Paramount Canada’s Wonderland… awesome!!!
