As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, September 23

1. Tuesday first period students are all too familiar with my expectations and standards, after all, I had them last semester, and so today’s presentations continued to blow me away. Wow… if I didn’t know better, I’d seriously think that they were competing for my job… hehehe. The funniest was when this one particular student ended his presentation. He clicked for the last screen on his Power Point presentation to pop up and up popped a massive picture of me and Mi Nam both wearing sun glasses… it was hilarious!!!

2. Not too sure on how to take this. The topic for today’s presentations was “likes and dislikes” and so one of my male students did a whole presentation on me!!!

3. Once in awhile random people add me as a friend on Facebook. I’ve had people from my homepage add me, random students, people I randomly met where ever and when ever… it’s cool but today I got an add from a young high school boy who goes to the high school down my street. Turns out we have the same birthday, both live in Cheonan… and both know a certain foreign man living in Cheonan… Mr. I-deserve-a-punch-in-the-face-AGAIN. Yup… Mr. I-deserve-a-punch-in-the-face-AGAIN is his teacher and well, I was the one that punched him in the face the first time. It was a couple of months ago at Khan, downtown, but I’m sure his ego is still bruised.

4. Got word that the security office in my building had my Adidas package and so I raced home. I ran down to the basement security office with the biggest grin on my face. They pointed to a massive box in the back of the office and, without even asking if I could, I ran through their office, picked it up, shook it, and then ripped it open. The security men had quite the laugh but were shocked when I showed what was in the box. I jumped and screamed with every new item I pulled out of it …. SEVENTEEN things in total… Wow!!! So what was in the box, you ask… this was:
- not one pair of boxing gloves but TWO PAIRS of boxing gloves!!!!!!
- Adidas boxing trunks (shorts)
- woman’s chest protector with top
- an Adidas boxing logo shirt
- five mini pairs of boxing gloves (for hanging on things like my gym bag)
- five pairs of hand wraps… sweet!!! Those who box as much as I do can definitely appreciate having lots of back-up hand wraps
- two pairs of their new Adidas hand gel quick-wrap hand wraps

5. I’m so lost for words right now, which if you know me, is a rare thing… so, THANK YOU ADIDAS! Never did I image that my boxing would be supported and backed up by YOU!!! I will definitely have to come up with some kind of video to further expand upon my gratitude and sheer happiness!!!

6. I was so excited and so I took a quick snap of what was in the box and then raced off to boxing to share my excitement with Junior Mint. His eyes totally lit up when he saw my new Adidas uniform (trunks and protective top) and he was quick to grab my new gloves and try them on…. They’re awesome!!! Now ALL my boxing gear is Adidas. From head to toe, inside and out, I’m covered in Adidas and now I have a proper uniform for my next match. Both my gloves and boxing trunks have the Adidas strips but in gold colour and so it looks super sharp. Dang, being the envy of the club today was wicked and having SEVENTEEN new reasons for them to despise me felt great…. hehehe.

7. After two weeks of no weight training because of my surgery, I returned tonight to weight training and was swarmed by a bunch of people,… many of which I’ve never talked to. It was so weird. No one usually talks to me at Hongik besides the trainers and owner/manager but tonight some girls bombarded me with s-line compliments and one of the guys from the Big Boys Crew was all in my face asking me where I had been.

8. As I left Hongik fitness, I felt great. It felt awesome to be able to get back into doing what I love. I miss just doing things for myself, on my terms and according to my own schedule. I could really get use to this again… easily!

9. Someone once asked me how I came up with the nickname Q. “Is it for ‘cutie”?” they asked. No, it’s not. Before him, I was just me… just “I”. I went out to restaurants alone, I went training, I studied Korean. My life was in first person mode but then he came alone and together I thought we were awesome together. We both were big into boxing, both loved laughing and movies, and we balanced each other out. I thought us being a couple was a smart move and so “I” and “Q” were "IQ"... not quite complete without the other. But I don’t think it’s such a smart thing anymore and am seeing that maybe I stand stronger and smarter without him. "IQ" is now "I" and "Q". I am the first person pronoun again and he stands alone as just Q now… no longer a part of IQ, but instead, just another random letter in the English alphabet.

10. One of my team mates once told me about a weird tradition he has. Every one loves getting new training gear and what not but he told me that whenever he gets a new boxing uniform, he sleeps in it the first night he receives it…. so…. that’s what I did. Tonight I went to sleep in my new Adidas uniform… and I felt so proud.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Who are you to try to pee on my parade?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
