1. On account that Dankook University was holding a Sports Day for the students, all us professors had the day off… sweet! This meant I got to sleep in and go in for boxing in the morning. I love morning training. Junior Mint opens up all the windows and lets the morning chill fill up the room. It also means I get to crank up my own tunes!!!
2. Last night Junior Mint had forewarned me that he wanted me to try training with my new Adidas chest cap on, one problem… the cap is attached to a shirt and the shirt is super short, leaving a lot of revealing skin. I skipped out on breakfast today cause I woke up with just enough time to be at boxing by 10am. If I was going to have to train practically half naked, there was no way I was going to do it with a full stomach from breakfast. I don’t recommend skipping breakfast! Ok, sure it meant I was more confident showing my mid-section but it killed me in the ring in terms of energy… yikes!
3. Turns out I don’t quite “fill” the chest cap and so Junior Mint made me train without it. I couldn’t quite tuck my arms in to guard my face… not use to a chesty-chest… ahh, a tear. So, I got to put my shirt back on. The two men training with me got quite the early morning side show of some Polish skin… hehehe.. one gave me a thumbs up... hehehe.
4. Early morning, well not-so early morning training, was followed by ordering in food at the boxing club. Q had the day off too and so we all sat down for lunch, it was nice. By the time the delivery dude had come, I was starving and so the food tasted extra good today.
5. Despite things between Q and I getting patched up, key word being “patch”, it’s definitely a different situation now. I sat down with him and told him flat out that we could never get married, he agreed but I don’t know if he really understands that I was being serious. I plan on moving back to Canada and I could never expect, nor would I want to put him in the same situation I am in, homesick and feeling bitter at random moments. So, although what we has is a good thing, I’m treating it like a temporary situation. We’ll stay together as long as I am in Korea but once I am gone, so is the relationship. I love him, I adore him and I think he’s awesome but it can never go beyond the borders of Korea… sad, but true.
6. Finally admitted that yes, I am seriously addicted to peanut butter after I bought a jar of peanut butter and Q commented that I had just bought a jar of it last week. I argued that it’s not just me eating it, and it isn’t though. For every scoop of peanut butter I eat, I give Mi Nam a scoop too. But today my addiction reached it’s peek when Q caught me scrapping the jar with a chopstick, in hopes to not wasted any last bit of it… hehehe.
7. I know the seasons here in Korea are kind of messed up. While Canada has summer, we have monsoon season, winter is wet snow and brown season, and spring is yellow sand season. Fall is the only “normal” season here but lately people have been acting like spring is in the air. I say this because so many people have been randomly approaching me in the streets and at Hongik. Tonight it was this one guy who asked me to spot him on chest press. I was obviously busy doing my own training and I got the impression that he was trying to impress me and so I thought I’d have fun with this one. After I spotted him on chest press, I loaded it up with some more weight and then had him spot me… that pretty much deflated his macho ego… hehehe.
8. Note to Hongik people: 80% of the time when you see me wearing my iPod, it’s turned off. I do this cause I really am there to just train and I liked it better when you ignored me.
9. Training twice a day gives me a natural high that I totally love but it also means that by 11:30pm my high comes crashing down and I’m ready to call it a night.
10. Around 2am, now Thursday morning, I was awaken by a text message from Drama Boy. “Hey are you sleeping?” Not too sure why people ask that, I mean, isn’t assumed that if I answer the text that I am NOT sleeping?!... hehehe. His message had come unexpectedly and so I didn’t mind. I miss Drama Boy. He and Buff Boy The Original were my K-Crew but the crew split up when I dated Panty Boy. Then Drama Boy went to Australia and then Buff Boy the Original followed. The were my best friends in Korea but Drama Boy has to sneak around to see me cause his girlfriend doesn’t like me and Buff Boy the Original is still down under. We use to weight train together, go bowling and eat out. Drama Boy took me on my first Korean picnic. But anyways, the next text message that followed was Drama Boy asking me if he could “borrow” some banana milk… hehehe… which meant he wanted to see me. I really wanted to see him too but was way too tired. Weight training had sucked up the last drops of energy in me and so we agreed to meet for banana milk on a later date.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Why did we ever let someone come in between us?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are half-cracked. ~

As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
