As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

The 63 Building in Seoul... it's a beauty!

And no it's not just another office building. On the lower floors there are over 90 stores, an Imax Theater and a huge aquarium. I'm a HUGE fan of the aquarium!!!

Hi Amy,

If you like the aquarium then you would love The Museum Of Natural History in New York which I love to visit at least once a year. It's is so awesome.

Hi Amy,
I just tried that exercise you told me with the small weights and using straight punches. I’m going to do more of those because my arms need to get solid and looking more defined like yours. My shoulders also. You look so toned Amy. I’m glad you give good advice. I appreciate it and the encouragement also. Thanks a lot!!

Hi Amy,
Thanks for the encouragement. You’re right about it being a learning experience. I did alright the first round with the exchanges but her jabs got to me in the second and third rounds. They can really slow you down a lot and I tend to forget my defense when that happens. I sent you a picture of me and Kim and hope you got it. I’ll ask her if she doesn’t mind you putting it on your site. Let me check that out. I’m going to get the clips of me and Shawn sparring and send them to you.
I think the worst round was the second versus Kim because I was making mistakes left and right. She was getting body to head and vice versa. I’m sure she saw I was slowing down. In the third round she used mainly the hard left jab which seems to be my downfall. Every time I got hit with one of those I came at her so maybe that’s my mistake because she followed with another usually. I was surprised when I went down the first time. I was kind of hurt and a little wobbly. I had my gloves up but she used body shots to bring down my guard then got me with a jab to knock me down the second time. Funny thing though Amy I really thought I would get up. I was on my butt then rolled to a kneeling position and got to one knee and tried to get up but couldn’t. I was really disappointed that I couldn’t get up in time. She was darn good though I’ll give her that. Both of them are really fast too.
Thanks for the advice and all Amy. I appreciate it.

Hey Beth,
Wow... lots to respond to, thanks ;)
I'll have to ask one of my brothers about that mueseum. Where in New York is it? My brother lives out in Queen's New York.

Glad to hear you tried out that exercise. It's harder than it first appears to be! If you want to work your shoulders, you can always adapt this exercise to focus on your shoulders. Do one round of straight punches and then, in the next round, punch straight up, like you're trying to punch the ceiling. You'll definitely feel the burn!

You and I seem to feed off each other, I love that so thank you. Bouncing ideas and encouragement off of each other is definitely needed and appreciated.

Don't worry about falling and stumbling during practice. Remember that's exactly where you want to do it, as supposed to during a real game. Continue to take from it what you can and learn.

Are you thinking about competiting? I'm sure there's lots of ameteur tournaments that your coach knows about or are you thinking about keeping it just to training and whatnot? Regardless of it you are or not, keep up with the hard training.

Remember, we ALL start off as a beginner... that's something I constantly have to remind myself of when I too get frustrated during training.
