As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Two songs that stores, shops and even the boxing gym, have been bombarding Korea's air with. They're quite catchy tunes.
This particular song is from Girls' Generation and I must admit, I liked it way more before when I didn't know the full translation. "You're so pretty.. your heart is so pretty... your glittering eyes" Oh come on... you're like one step away from describing a woman!!! Sometimes I seriously question Koreans and they're continual "pretty boy" imagines. To each their own, I know, but dang. I really don't care to meet a man than fits their description of what a guy should be like.
I love this song by Big Bang. It's catchy, not infested with cheesy lines and I love the flashiness and funky bright colours in the video.

You seem like a cool person but your taste in music is horrible!

You say "It's catchy and not infested with cheesy lyrics". Are you serious?!! To quote a line in the song directly..."sweeter than a candy bar!"

Hi Anonymous,
Hahaha... I never said that these were my choice of songs, I said that these are "two songs that stores, shops and even the boxing gym, have been bombarding Korea's air with." And compared to the first song by Girls' Generatioin, you must admit that the second song is so much better! It's just a cute song, not MY song, but "sweeter than a candy bar" is cute in comparission to the "your glittering eyes" lines.

I highly doubt posting two songs labels or accurately portrays my taste in music, thanks.

cute? I think you meant to say annoying or obnoxious.

Cute AND annoying, yes.

I don't mean to offend you, Anonymous, but I feel that you're being too judgmental here.

judgmental? really? So because i give my thoughts on a piece of 'music' I'm judgmental? If I had commented on the music in a positive way, wouldn't that be judgmental too? That is probably one of the most over-used and improperly used words around. Next time i post a comment, I'll make sure to wear my 'kid gloves'.

Hi Tara,
Don't worry about Anonymous, or anyone for that matter. It's all good. By the way, who's your favourite recording artist? I'm a huge fan of Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Beyonce, and I love my Beastie Boys!

Hey Anonymous,
No need for "kid gloves"... they won't fit... lol. Just jokes. Can't we all just get along?! Group hug... lol.
So, according to you, what is good music then?

What's good music to me? My personal opinion is that good music is something with a lot of soul and passion in it. something that gives you shivers, it's 'real', it's difficult to describe with words, it's usually surreal and cerebral at the same time, sometimes hard to define, and many times innovative and therfore challenging upon the first listen. It should make you dream and take you on some sort of trip.

For me it's certainly not some cheesy, shitty, manufactured act put together by some record company only to sell millions of 'albums' to the lowest common denominator of fan. That's what McDonalds does, "over one billion served!". It's garbage.

Shitty music is important however. Crap from 'lady gaga' and 'Beyonce' makes people appreciate really good music even more!

Hi Anonymous,
Fair enough, thanks, I respect that but you can't say that even those songs filled with cheesy lyrics aren't music and I happen to know that Beyonce comes from a very talented family.
Even those cheesy songs serve some purpose and is 'real'. To each their own but music is meant for more reasons beyond the 'shivers' you talked about.
It's all a case of personal preference. I like most genres of music but don't really care for country or heavy metal, but some do and I respect that. Heavy metal and country may give them 'shivers' and so who am I to tell them that what they feel is wrong and to say it's not music?!
By the way, you still didn't really answer my question and so I'll ask again. So, according to you, what is good music then? (names)

In no particular order....Radiohead, David Bowie, interpol, tool, massive attack, the yeah yeah yeah's, nick cave, U2, cortney tidwell, Joy division, the sex pistols, the who, the stone roses, jeff buckley, the verve, the cure. I know I'm forgetting a bunch more. I have a feeling you wouldn't like most of this stuff anyway.
