1. Snickers is all about these random “surprise secrets”, as I call them, and so today I woke up at the crack of dawn to Snickers looking at me. He had gone cycling in the morning and ended his ride at my house. We talked a bit about last night’s turn of events and agreed to put it aside, noting that it was just a matter of miscommunication.
2. Me biting my nails drives Snickers bonkers and so I’ve been trying my hardest not to randomly nibble away on them. As a result, today Snickers thought it’d be cute to bring a manicure set to my house and do my nails. I’m a chic and even I don’t know how to do my nails. I giggled away when Snickers pulled out a manicure set, opened it up and there before my eyes laid a dozen or so shiny nail tools. “You’re my queen” he noted and yes, that’s exactly how I felt.
3. This summer my plan is to go hardcore with my training and studying Korean but I’ve also convinced myself to take up cooking. I’m not a big fan of cooking in that I find it rather lonely to cook for just myself but with Snickers repeatedly visiting my house on a daily bases, he eats most of his meals at my house and so I figure it’s the very least I can do for the guy who walks 40 minutes to my house, does my nails, and whatnot.
4. I suppose I should use a different word than “cook” because, for the most part, my meals required limited cooking and what I consider to be a meal wouldn’t necessarily be labeled a meal by the average person. Whatever word you may chose to use, I’ve created some pretty cool things so far. Snickers is obsessed with ice cream and Popsicles and so today I made sugar free coffee Popsicles and banana split yogurt slushies. My friend Italiano in Canada bought me an ice cream receipt book and so I’m hoping to attack some of those more diet-friendly recipes this summer.
5. But the best thing I’ve made so far was a massive peanut butter, cinnamon oatmeal pancake the size of my head! I made that yesterday after I discovered the recipe in an Oxygen Fitness magazine. Don’t worry, I plan on making a video about it sometime next week. The pancake was pure delish and with only 11g carbs and a whopping 36g of protein it was a sure hit!!!
6. Slaving away at student final marks so that I could post them on my two student-oriented homepages was going smooth up until the point when Mi Nam decided to randomly attack my computer cord, causing a black screen to pop up and my eyes to almost literally pop out of my head. Three hours worth of typing and calculations gone.. dang.
7. Do you believe in destiny? Snickers does. I’m not too sure if I do but I’m a strong believer in the idea that everything happens for a reason. I don’t know if I’d give destiny credit for it but instead believe it’s God who’s at play here. I ask because today Snickers randomly showed up at my house today overly giggly and super hyper. He passed me a stack of photos and so I went through them while he eagerly waited some kind of reaction from me. They were photos of his previous fights and his friends’ fights. That’s when I saw why he was so overly hyper. It was a picture that was taken over a year ago and in the picture stood Snickers and two of his friends. His friend was fighting that day but in the background stood me. I too was fighting that day. It was February 23rd, 2008. We initially thought our paths first crossed up in Incheon when I went to watch Panty Boy Jr. and two other of my teammates fight in July of 2008. Snickers also had a fight that day. In both situations when our paths crossed, I was happy… happily involved with Q that is. Meeting Snickers at that point would have automatically thrown him in the friend category and he and I would never have become an “us”.
8. Arriving at the boxing club I did a quick mental note and reminded myself to change my thinking. I didn’t want to step into the boxing club tasting the same bitterness on my tongue that I tasted the other day. When I stepped into the club I was greeted by Black Skinny. He got all up in my face and that was exactly what I needed. He liked the purple eye I was sporting and called me “gangster”… hahaha. Junior Mint, on the other hand, was equally as quick with getting up in my face and pointing out where I had gone wrong in my fight.
9. I only have to weigh-in at 51kgs for my next fight by my opponent is stepping into the ring with a load of experience. I’m not familiar with her professional boxing record but she’s stacked up quite the number of amateur games prior to turning pro and so my game prep training for this upcoming fight will have me boxing two times a day, or so Junior Mint insists. I know I bring a lot of strength into the ring and I’m much more comfortable stepping into the ring for a fight but my sense is still not up to par with where it should be.
10. After training I was pleasantly surprised to look up and see Snickers. He thought it be sweet to come walk me home from boxing, which of course it was. Today marked start day for Snickers next game prep work and so today he went cycling, boxing and then did evening weight training. I, on the other hand, still have school stuff and Arirang filming splattered on this week’s schedule but I’m anticipating this upcoming Wednesday to be my official game prep start day. Junior Mint wants me to do morning running, followed by mid-morning boxing and then boxing in the evening.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you believe in destiny?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.
-- Jawaharlal Nehru
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
