As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, August 19

1. Woke up from my mid-morning nap to the furniture man telling me he’s outside my new home waiting to let me in and so I threw on some clothes and ran down the street to open the door for him. Thankfully the distance between my old place and my new one is about a five minute walk.

2. Arrived at my new home and there in front of it was parked a truck with my fridge and clothes washing machine. I guess I was overly excited about having a regular size fridge cause the dude laughed at me but considering how much food I eat in a day and the silly, silly, small size of my Sambu apartment fridge, it meant I had to go grocery shopping at least twice a week.

3. I definitely questioned how the heck we were going to get fridge and clothes machine up to the third floor. They had sent the smallest worker and I wasn’t about to carry it myself. Snickers came by but then the unthinkable happened…. the super tiny I-can-snap-you-like-a-twig dude put the washer on his back and trekked up to the third floor. I was so impressed… hahahaha.

4. I had bumped moving day from Saturday to Thursday and so this meant that today most of the furniture got delivered. No sooner did one delivery guy leave but another arrived. There were so many people coming in and out of my new place that my landlady dropped by to see what all the commotion was about.

5. When my massive clothing cabinet arrived (a 6 door cabinet that takes up one whole wall), it came accompanied by two older men who were quick to get to work and start assembling it. Mind ya, one problem, even with it in parts it was too big to be hauled up the stairs and so we had to call one of those trolley trucks. Gotta love Korea and it’s methods. I tell ya, I felt rather scared for those underneath at ground level as they sent my cabinet up on a mere tiny platform to my floor.

6. Turns out my bed won’t be delivered till late next week, dang, and here I was all excited at the thought of having slept on a floor mat for almost 5 years and now finally getting a bed.

7. The gas range arrived looking beautiful and sparkly. I was so stoked about it’s arrival because it has a mini oven on the bottom part of it. I've got big plans for this oven... protein-packed cookies, shake n' bake chicken, and so on. Bad news though, apparently we have different gas than the gas that’s required for it; easy mistake. The guy will have to return, pick it up and then drop off the correct one I need.

8. Mi Nam got the official okay today to live on my new roof top patio from my landlady. Not too sure on how he’ll adjust to being an outside dog now considering the pampering and luxury-living he is use to but I think the outdoors will do him good. Later this week Snickers and I plan on making a little sleeping corridors for him up there.

9. My new work schedule for this semester arrived today and with one minor adjustment it’d be perfect. Here’s my anticipated schedule (with the adjustment I’m hoping for):
Mon: 11:20am to 5:20pm (2 classes + 2 office hours)
Tues: day off
Wed: 9:20am to 1:20pm (2 classes)
Thurs: 11:20am to 3:20pm (2 classes)
Fri: 1:20pm to 5:20pm (2 classes)
So I’ll be teaching eight classes, 3 speaking classes and 5 writing classes. I’m not too keen on Tuesday being my day off but I’ll take it.

10. With tomorrow being moving-in day, tonight marked my last sleep in my Sambu apartment. I thought I’d feel more sentimental about it but I was actually more excited about finally leaving Sambu if anything and so tonight, as I got ready for bed, I felt like a kid at Christmas. I can’t wait till I am in my new place. A new home with new furniture, new memories waiting to make, and a means of starting off fresh. I know Snickers doesn’t care for Sambu and often feels uncomfortable in it because of why I moved into Sambu in the first place. The person has since been long gone but memories and reminders of that person and the ugliness that became of that relationship. Others have since come along (Q and Pretty Boy), have added to the collection of memories, and they too have left their mark in Sambu. Whether it’s the large gouge in the floor where The Ex threw the alarm clock, the love letter-writing on the wall that faintly remains from a certain someone but I’ve so clearly have covered up, or the toilet that’s no longer really attached to the floor because of another certain person, Sambu has definitely been tainted and I no longer care to have my present clashing with my past.

Wait a second....Mi Nam is going to be an outside dog after being an inside dog? For real? Like live outside on the roof full time in the cold, wind, rain, and snow? I really hope that is not the case. I cannot even imagine doing that to my dog after having her live in the house for so long....plesae, please, please tell me that is not what is going on.

Hi Tracey,
Honestly, we haven't quite figured out what's the situation with Mi Nam because of the fact that the rules of the building seemed to strangely change once I moved in and had dropped $10,000 on my key deposit. I really have no choice in this situation.
He spends a good part of his time on our terrace and up on the roof top where we just yesterday made an enclosed dog play area/house.

Hey Vbuuren,
Yes, he was the thinest and smallest delivery boy I've ever met... hahaha.
