As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Friday, August 21

1. Woke up all sweaty from a bad dream that really wasn’t a bad dream at all but instead a continuous repeat of the long distance, cross country telephone conversation by which I had last night. I woke up seriously thinking that this person was whispering in my ear what they had said last night. I am surely convinced I will never forget what they said. “Keep your mind and heart strong.... always... you’re going to need it.” Those words haunted me today because of what and why she was hinting at.

2. Today was marked by more randomers coming in and out of my new home but today’s randomers consisted of service men. First to arrive on the scene was the Internet dude. An hour later he left, I had Internet access and what felt like a billion and one TV stations.

3. I forewarned Snickers, telling him that I’ll cut the TV cable if he becomes like a horse with blinders on in front of it. I can’t stand the TV and the only reason I even considered getting cable was because without it I got absolutely no channels, unlike in Sambu where I got eight. When I was younger my parents limited my TV watching time but I was more interested in playing outside than TV. Then, once I got my own place during my university years, I didn’t even own a TV. TV rots your brain, or so I am told. Very rarely do you find me watching it but I like the Discovery Channel and I figure having the movie channel will cut down on me trekking out to Little America to stock up on movies.

4. Watched “Prison Break” for the very first time today. I still don’t see what’s all the hype about.

5. With still no gas range it meant that the gas man’s return was put on hold. Consequently, it also meant the army-cold showers continue.

6. Headed out to UP to see my coach and collect my money. Surprisingly enough he handed over more than I expected and cut down his share like he did. Snickers thinks it’s because Junior Mint thinks I’m not coming back and so it was his attempt at… at what, I’m not sure… at winning me over?!

7. Hooray, hooray… the no-chicken and “don’t-eat-foods list” has been removed and trashed on account that Snickers doesn’t care to hear me tell me anymore “I-haven’t-pooped” stories and with his game less than a month away he’s bound to do his usual hardcore crash dieting a week or two prior to his game. I’d be more happy about this news if I actually had means to cook chicken. My gas range should be coming early next week but until then I’m limited in what I can eat. I thought I’d go raw for the week but instead I’ve gone out to eat, not quite the same thing… hahaha.

8. Decided to kill my pig today. About three and a half years ago I started two piggy banks. One was solely for 1000 won bills (~$1) and I’ve since have killed that, but the other one was for loose change. I use to faithfully put my daily loose change into it but lately it’s been Snickers putting his coins in it. Tonight we figured we cut it open and count the change.

9. Two hours later and about $400 dollars richer, we finally finished.
10. Plan for Snickers and I to start our own pig, feed it everyday and then crack it open in a year.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What do you have your eye on?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Hi Vbuuren,
Cute radio? You mean the radio behind Snickers? I got that from my former boss in Canada. It's quite the cool radio because it gets channels from all over the world. It's small but VERY powerful.
