As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, August 1

1. Last night’s introduction to this little get-away gave huge hints to both Snickers and I that maybe we should have thought this through more thoroughly. The morning started off on a rough start with me experiencing majorly messed up sleeping patterns. I had gone to bed around 5am but woke up around 9am hungry and wishing I was back in Cheonan. I went out in search of food which meant I wasn’t hungry when we went out for breakfast. Snickers mistook me not eating as me trying to prove a point but the only point that was being made was that I really wasn’t hungry. Anyways, it’s safe to say that the morning wasn’t comfortable. Between Lollipop trying to juggle his attention to us with the attention demands of his girlfriend, of which I’d love to write Snickers’ nickname for her here but have labeled it “too colourful” for my homepage, so we’ll stick with just calling her “Crazy Girl”, the morning was “interesting”.

2. I was happy once we headed out to go swimming; it gave Snickers and I a chance to really relax. He use to take swimming lessons but has since stopped and so he continually begged me to show him my swimming skills. I had no idea we’d be swimming on this get-away but agreed to jump in the massive river with a tank top and ¾ length pants. He seemed so proud that I could swim well and he clapped and cheered so loud when I beat him in an underwater distance swimming competition. What can I say… in another life I’m sure I was a fish… hahaha.

3. While Snickers and Lollipop cut and prepared the fish they had caught in the nets they put up last night, I amused myself by making new friends, a little girl named Su Hyun and her sister Sung Hyun. They had noticed my name necklace and instantly that stirred up a conversation with me and their families because I was a foreigner with the same Korean name as one of their daughters. Together the three us paddled around the river in a raft and splashed around in the water.
I love this picture.

4. My favourite memory of the day was definitely when Su Hyun, Sung Hyun and I teamed up to start a water fight with Snickers. They had brought along three big water guns and I laughed with such amusement when they struggled to hold the water-filled guns… hahaha. The three of us girls stuck together and were convinced we could take on Snickers. Whether it was him running up to throw me into the water or him trying to grab one of the guns from the girls, together the three of us put up quite the fight. Su Hyun and Sung Hyun’s parents came to watch and take pictures but once it started to rain they left. Snickers and I had had so much fun with them and so it was kind of sad to see them go.

5. “Don’t worry” I told him. “One day we’ll do this again but with our own kids.” Snickers is still stuck on four… he wants four kids.
6. On the long ride home Snickers and I resumed our backseat seats and got into quite the conversation. I had told him about the movie “Breakin’ All the Rules” and told him that if he thinks he really loves me than he’ll be able to break through his skin. “I have to bite my hand and bleed?” he asked me. “Yes” I responded. I knew it was a silly idea but we started talking about it and so he noted that when he proposes to me, he’ll be sure to bite his hand and prove that he loves me. So, if you hear about some Korean dude biting his own hand, that’ll be Snickers… hahaha.

From the movie “Breakin’ All the Rules”
A: So, what's the strangest thing that you know?
B: Can't bite through your own skin.
A: What?
B: It's impossible. First law of nature: s-preservation. You can't do it, because you're selfish.
A: I can't bite through my own flesh, because I'm too selfish?
B: Try to.
A: No.
B: Bite into yourself.
A: That's lame.
B: Bite yourself.
A: All right.
B: You want some hot sauce?
A: I can't bite into my skin, because I'm sane.
B: It's the same thing, biologically speaking. See, if you're not selfish...that means you're crazy and you could do it.
A: What about if you care about someone more than you care about yourself?
B: First, why would you do that? Second, are you talking about love?
A: Yeah. Love.
B: If someone is in love, therefore not selfish, then he or she is crazy... and could bite through his or her own flesh.
A: So being in love and being crazy are one and the same?
B: It's obvious.

7. Wanna make enemies with me fast?!… deny me food and it’s sure to happen quickly. That’s exactly what happened today after we loaded up the car and supposedly started to head back to civilization. One pit-stop turned into a couple but with no signs of food beyond the ultra hard peaches I refused to test the strength of my teeth out on. It was approaching 7pm and I had only had an apple, a glass of milk, a small box of crackers, one bite of a peach, one bite of a melon, and two pieces of gum. My usual excessive drinking of water and five meals were no where in sight and so crankiness was settling in. Snickers was getting quite annoyed about it, blaming it on Crazy Girl and her no-eat mentality to stay chopstick thin.
8. Finally we arrived in Suwon. Snickers and I still had a train ride out to Cheonan to make but we tried to give a heart-felt good by to Lollipop. The great get-away had been a great flop and I think we all felt bad, all but Crazy Girl that is.

9. On the train Snickers and I came to a couple of conclusions, we’re both selfish when it comes to sharing each other with other people (as in friends and family) and we both really want to take our relationship to the next step. Turns out Snickers is more eager than me and has been pondering some key steps to take. Today marked the start of my last week as an independent woman and August is definitely looking like quite the great month for “us” so we're going to kick things off with a trip down to Busan next Tuesday. Expected to return next Friday and am anticipating this trip to change everything.
10. When we arrived in Cheonan we then had to part our separate ways. Snickers had a family meeting to attend to in Seoul regarding his grandfather and so I headed home alone. It was an early lights out for me on account that I really hadn’t had a lights-out last night.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What does time have to do with anything?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.
