As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Friday, September 4

1. Last day of school for the first week back and it felt good to acknowledge that. However, having said that, it also meant that next week “real” classes start and so this also meant that I’d have to spend this weekend planning and creating my lecture Power Point files and activities, as well as I’d have to create my two homepages for the two courses I’m teaching.

2. A couple of my former students graced me with their attendance in my class and so that’s always nice.

3. Walked into my last class of the day feeling rather faint. I had trained hard on chest and back today at the gym and had had my morning nap but I hadn’t eaten much today. Me skipping meals is definitely a no-no, especially considering I train twice a day and the amount of calories my body requires. Throw in the fact that I had to walk all the way across campus in the sweltering heat and ya, quite the recipe for a disaster. Thankfully nothing much became of it but thankfully I also ran into a former student of mine whom I leaned on to walk down the stairs. I thought I was seriously going to faint.

4. I always end the first week back at school with a good hearty meal out and so Kitty Cat and I headed out for dinner.

5. Dinner at a buffet restaurant was more like an overdose of food and needless to say my faintness and lack of food was definitely made up for with not one or two but three large plates of food, a bowl full of yoghurt, a coffee and a whole whack of carbs…. Hahaha. It was delish and although I went a bit overboard and felt like I had to be wheel barrowed home, I justify it with the fact that I definitely do not eat like this and I deserved it. Once in awhile it’s okay to go extreme like this, that is, as long as it is once in awhile. The last time I ate like this it was Christmas.

6. Passed out on the couch with no intentions of doing anything but vegging out for the evening, that is, until Junior Mint texted me.

7. An hour later I showed up at boxing. I take it within the month that I’ve been away a lot of new faces have joined the boxing club and so tonight I ran into a whack of them in addition to my usual favourites that were there, like Panty Boy Jr. and Black Skinny.

8. “Did you see that girl… she boxes?!” A questionable ending to that sentence slash question was not exactly what I was hoping to stir up among two of the new members at UP. They gave me a long look-over as if to mock me and then while they geared up for training I then stepped in the ring with Junior Mint to do my pad work.

9. Snickers says it’s because Junior Mint is proud of me, I just think it’s cause Junior Mint likes to show off, but whatever it is, whenever there’s a crowd at the club he always pushes me so hard during pad work. Pad work tonight was incredibly grueling and very physical, on Junior Mint’s behalf that is, but it left those two new guys looking stupid considering their reaction to me before. And leave it to me to add fuel to the fire. When I stepped out of the ring I walked past them, leaned towards them and said, “Did you see that girl… she boxes!!!” And yes, I definitely added extra exclamation marks when I said it to them... hahaha.

10. After an overload of food at dinner and then getting totally pushed at boxing, by the time 10pm came around I was beyond ready for bed but then Snickers walked in. “Make me pizza… please Pizza Master” he said. I was so exhausted but him pinching me and playing up his big puppy eyes resulted in me making him a pizza. I’m no “Pizza Master” but am proudly the Pancake Master, however, I must admit that my pizza is definitely loaded with lots of delish goodies and love.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What are you the master of?

I am just curious about something. I've been reading your blog a long time and I know that you are always creating new power point stuff for your lectures. Do you always have to make new stuff? Do you ever get a break and teach the same subject and course material? Seems like so much work!!

Hi Ambearo,
For the most part yes, I do always have to make new Power Point stuff, hence why it gets rather annoying if the assistants schedule me more than one course to teach. I also create a homepage for each course I teach and so it's rather time consuming. I've been at Dankook for three years now and this is the first semester I've been told to use the same textbook and so yes, I am using some of my old stuff. Am revising it though.
For the most part, PPT stuff is new but sometimes I use screens from other PPT files I've created.
On average though, one PPT lecture file takes about 3-4 hours to make.
