As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Monday, September 7

1. Today supposedly marked the last day for students to add and/or drop courses at Dankook and so we’re all expected our classes of dwindling numbers to be dealt with and resolved by tomorrow. Well, that’s the hope.

2. Had my first official lecture of the new semester today. It was a speaking class and we talked about introductions and greetings which is pretty general and boring stuff, for the most part. I thought I’d make it fun by getting them to do a class survey with a list of random questions they’d have to ask their classmates and I circled the class room bopping them on the back with a rolled piece of paper if they weren’t speaking, weren’t using English, or weren’t participating. I think they ended up having a lot of fun but not because of the English but because they thought it was funny to see me sneak up and prey on unsuspecting students.

3. Text messaged the one and only student that was enrolled in my writing class today. With a two hour break in between my classes and no one in higher authority giving me any kind of answer as to what to do with this one-student-only class that stands a retardedly high chance of being canceled, I decided to text the student and tell them to change classes.

4. After work I checked out the new supermarket and it’s crazy-cool deals. I love this whole “fill-a-bag’s-worth” deal various stores are hosting. First it was Lotte Mart with it’s fill-a-bag’s-worth of apples, of which Snickers made me proud by strategically packing it with 9 apples. But today’s fill-a-bag’s-worth was for various salad greens, as in lettuce and cabbage. For a mere fifty cents Snickers stuffed that bag full of luscious salad greens.

5. Other discounts included massive slashing of prices, of which Snickers totally milked. Snickers claimed we saved a lot of money, sure, we got twice as much food, but considering we would have saved a lot more money had we only picked up what we had gone there for, which was milk, we spent a lot. Then there was of course the whole “buy $30 worth of groceries and get 24 free eggs”. Well, considering we only went there for milk, the eggs really cost us about $28 if you think about it… hahaha.

6. Oh but we scored a free grocery cart… hahaha. With way too much food to carry home, Snickers decided to simply roll the cart home. I made him take it back and so I had a good laugh at that. He, on the other hand, had a good laugh at the fact that we got 24 free eggs when we only actually spent about $28… hahaha.

7. Got word from that photographer that did a profile on me this past year. Turns out this week he’s having a special showing and one of my pictures will be on display for all eyes to see… very cool. Plan is to check it out tomorrow with Snickers.

8. Discovered the best form of birth control; a screaming kid making quite the verbal stink with his mother right under my window at night and with about half a dozen neighbourhood people who’d jump at the chance to kill this kid just to shut him up… Wow. Of course this method can’t be marketed and of course they wouldn’t kill the kid but of course I wasn’t going to listen to it much longer so I yelled at them from my window. Okay, so I admit it wasn’t really nice of me to do it but I figured that if I disguised my voice as an older Korean ajjuma (woman), I might be more effective, and you know what, I was. It sure beat my original idea though of pretending to water my plants on my terrance and “accidentally” letting the water fall on their heads.

9. Late night training consisted of Snickers training in the park and me going for a run. I thought I’d simply run the path beside my house and then return back once I reached the university. Once I reached the university I went to turn back, as planned, but the path lights were off and when I turned around there sat an old Korean man off to the side. I got rather spooked and so instead of heading back in the direction I came from I continued on.

10. Returned a somewhat still spooked but very sweaty Pollack and Snickers was standing there waiting for me.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Should I stay or should I go?
