As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, September 19

1. Skipped out on morning weight training on account that I had a heck of a time falling asleep last night and I had to trek it out to Snickers’ fight location via an early morning bus… sorry Kitty Cat.

2. Dressed to impressed and then headed out to Ilsan where Panty Boy Jr. and Snickers were to have their fights. I had missed breakfast and my second meal of the day was creeping up but I missed it too. I just couldn’t stomach anything. I don’t doubt Snickers’ talent but this fight marked the third time he’d be fighting the same opponent and so he really needed to butcher this fight.

3. With only minutes to spare before Snickers is to fight, he couldn’t find his mouth guard. The bunch of us scrambled to retrace his steps and I even went so far as to embarrass myself and snoop around in the men’s bathroom. Turns out Snickers had slipped it into my purse, which would have been good if had told me, and so I had to boot my butt in super high heels and hand it to him.

4. The crowd was filled with various media folk. A Japanese magazine reporter was busy taking pictures of Snickers while one particular newspaper reporter followed me around and was sure to take note of my comments, answers and whatnot.

5. I had ran into Snickers’ opponent during warm-up and so it was a bit reassuring to note just how nervous he was. I think he was probably the only one to go to the bathroom more than me that day.

6. Snickers did exactly what he had promised to me, he finished the fight in the first round. He had his opponent against the ring and was pounding away at him when the official called the game, leaving his opponent all groggy and disappointed.

7. In between Snickers and Panty Boy Jr.’s fight, I was bombarded by random people asking me random questions. Two of these random people were two foreigners, I’ll call them The C.C. Twins. They were both two really cool gals and so I gave them my business card and they promised to come see my next game. As for the random questions I got, here’s some of the random and not-so-random questions:
Q: How old are you, 21, 22?
A: I officially love you now… hahaha. No, I’m 29.

Q: Do you speak English?
A: I’m trying to quit… hahaha.

Q: When are you hoping to fight again?

A: Am aiming to fight again in November.

Q: What’s your favourite point on your boyfriend?
A: His smile and his long legs that don’t seem to end.

Q: How do you feel when you watch your boyfriend fight?
A: Like I can’t breath.

Q: What do you want for your boyfriend’s fight today?
A: I want him to keep his promise of a first round knock-out.

Q: If you had a child, would you want them to box?
A: For sure. Boxing is more than a sport, it’s a lifestyle for me and it’s a passion. If my child were to be as passionate about it, or anything, then I would for sure support them.

Q: How many children do you want?
A: Want and can have are two different things. My boyfriend wants four… a
home-corner, away-corner, official, and a card girl… hahaha.

8. As for my teammate’s fight, Panty Boy Jr., it wasn’t as a clean of a fight as Snickers’ was. In the third round Panty Boy Jr. definitely left us nervous by the ringside as he stumbled around and then fell. In the fourth round, however, he regained his focus and then knocked his opponent out.

9. Most of Snickers’ family came out to watch his fight and so after his fight we headed out for dinner together. I'm still a bit freaked-out around Snickers mother. She's nice to me and all but she doesn't smile so much and I can't help but remember our first meeting... me punching the bathroom wall and her walking in. One of Snickers’ little nephews, Hyun June, totally adores me though and so he was all for sitting on my lap, putting my hands on his tummy, and insisting I listen to him sing. He even went so far as to try to steal a donut for me… sounds like he’s been hanging out with Snickers too much… hahaha.

10. The original plan was for Snickers and I to head out to his grandfather’s house where his grandfather and father were but plans changed on account that his grandfather really needed to better nurse his health. Snickers was in need of some nursing, too. In the first minute of his game he had injured his game. I joked about it to him cause it was such a short fight, a fight that I should note here resulted in him not getting punched at all!!! Snickers definitely dished out the punches though but one punch had left him injured and about an hour or less after his fight, it also left him with a very swollen right hand. We don’t think it’s broken but there’s definitely something wrong going on with it.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What are you successful at?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.
