As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, September 26

1. Early morning weight training was a no-go on account that I woke up to the surprise arrival of the fall weather chill and my weight training buddy, Kitty Cat, was off to Singapore for the weekend.

2. Stocked up on groceries and despite Snickers still sporting his freakishly-swollen hand, he insisted he carry all the groceries home.

3. Snickers is always getting on my case for my poor efforts with stretching before training and well, today he proved his point with the importance of stretching when I made a miserable attempt to give myself a pedicure. I just couldn’t bend over to care to my toes. Snickers practically peed his pants laughing at me.

4. End result: Snickers gave me a pedicure and I agreed to stretch before and after every workout.

5. Yet again KBS replayed Snickers’ previous fight on TV and yet again I was called by Snickers’ side to watch it again.

6. Snickers headed out for dinner with his boys, leaving me bored senseless at Guum Ggum. I thought about calling on some friends but came up with various excuses why I shouldn’t. Moreover though, I hate calling on people. I much rather be invited out than be the one inviting. Mind ya, with me not being a drinker or single, and with me being so into my boxing and training, my invites out have definitely dwindled. The typical thing for many to do in Korea on a weekend night is to hit up the bars. I don’t hang out at bars because a. I value my lungs, thanks, b. I don’t drink, and c. bar food doesn’t interest me, and so there goes that invite. Shooting pool bores me half to death, I don’t do Korean dance clubs, and I really don’t want to head out to Seoul to pursue the night life there like many of my friends repeatedly do.

7. …. So, where does that continually leave me?! Home alone.

8. Regardless of the occasional complaint I have about my very routine-like quiet weekends, I must admit that I much rather spend my evening home alone than with a bunch of people who I don’t particularly favor or care to impress. I’m very much so as comfortable on my own as I am in my own skin, two situations that I admit I definitely wasn’t at all comfortable with before. I definitely value my own “me time”.

9. When home alone and bored out my skull, I tend to distract myself with silly things but tonight I decided to go shopping. Bought some new lip gloss at MAC Cosmetics and then proved to be quite unsuccessful with searching out L’Oreal hair colour downtown.

10. Most successful move of the night was deciding to go for a jog. Heading out for a late night jog turned into quite the 40 minute jog, which was then followed by a 5 minute full-fledge sprint.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Nature or nurture?
