As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Friday, October 23

1. Last day of midterms… thank you God for that!!!

2. Ending my week of midterms with my speaking class that is oh so attentive and well-behaved (that’s me sarcastically speaking, of course) wasn’t they way I wanted to end it. Thankfully, I was able to end the week on a high note, with one of my favorite writing classes.

3. Half way during my day I got an unexpected phone call regarding an even more unexpected issue… a kind of proposal you could say.

4. Looks like Japan wants me to come fight!!! Got offered a 4 round fight in Japan with all expenses paid (aka flight and hotel). My opponent is a young south-paw Japanese fighter with only three professional fights under her belt. Weigh-in requirements are 48kgs but I want to push it down to 47kgs.

5. With Kitty Cat off in class, Snickers busy at Grandpa-K’s house, and my close friends and family being miles upon miles away, I had no one to share in my wicked news and so I had to wait to share my awesome, awesome news.

6. Called up Junior Mint and arranged to tell him my news tonight. We had promised to meet at 8pm but then he ended up cancelling on me on account that something with his family came up.

7. I haven’t made my decision about Japan offering me a fight but I definitely want to take it. I guess you could say I have made my decision but now it’s a matter of getting my stuff together for immigration – what a hassle that’s going to be!

8. After work Kitty Cat and I met up for chicken and coffee at Coffee Bean and what started off as just her and I turned into quite the work social when we ran into past and present coworkers and students. Ended up taking a walk down memory lane with one of my coworkers when she started to ask questions about Snickers and I. “I went through a lot of frogs to get to my prince” I noted and only God knows just how true that is!

9. Heading into boxing tonight was accompanied by a massive wave of awesome energy. I went hardcore with training and had brought my usual game prep-ware, meaning I brought extra layers of clothing so that I could sweat my brains out. And sweat my brains out was exactly what I did!!!

10. I had showed up at training around 9pm and left a bit after 11pm. It had been a long and super intense training, leaving me with very little energy, or time for that matter, to do much more than veg-out at Guum Ggum. Made myself a protein shake-slushie and then called it a night.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you believe in destiny?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
To the lamp of love: may it burn brightest in the darkest hours and never flicker in the winds of trial.

Hi Amy,
I hope you take that fight in Japan. That would be great for you. Thanks also for posting those female boxer pictures. We don't get enough publicity as do the men. I have a pretty good picture that I should email you of a women's bout with a knockout picture. We are tough you are right.

Hey Beth,
Long time no talk! How are you doing Beth? Training going well, I hope!
I'm planning to take that fight in Japan but it's not as easy as just agreeing to it. Immigration papers and whatnot will have to be delt with :(
Ya, sent me some photos. Would love to post them if you'd let me.
