As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Monday, October 19

1. Day one of midterm exams and the first and only exam I had to give today was to my speaking class. I was doing one-on-one 5-question interviews and had anticipated it taking two hours. An hour later and I was finished… sweeeeeeeeeeet!

2. With the arrival of my new hair color and me looking like quite the foreign girl, I definitely stick out now in a crowd. I originally dyed my hair dark as a result of one too many Russian-prostitute references and so my dark hair became a kind of security blanket for me in that it kind of confused people and, at first glance, people mistook me often as being Korean.

3. But now that I have my light hair back, people have once again started to make random comments to me. And it’s not people I know either, it’s random people on random streets making random remarks to me. Little kids say hi to me and randomly wave to me when I pass them in the street, high school boys blurt out “pretty girl”, and the old man seem to think it’s okay to give me the twice-over and act strange to me.

4. Was asked “Where are you from?” by an older man who had so clearly given me the obvious double-look while I waited for the light to change. I replied by telling him to guess and he responded with saying I was from Russia. have nothing against Russia or Russian people but I knew what he was implying and we ten or so other Koreans listening in on the situation, I definitely felt like I was in the hot seat. But what got me the most was my response to him. Without even thinking I opened my mouth and out came “Go back to school you ugly, perverted monkey” in Korean.

5. My apologies to the monkeys in this world. I do love my monkeys and I would have called him an ugly boar if I knew how to say that in Korean… hahaha.

6. Junior Mint is away at the big amateur tournament this week and so that means Milk Dud is away too because he’s got a fight. So with both Junior Mint and Milk Dud away from the club, this means that Panty Boy Jr. is running the club. I would have been left to manage it but I couldn’t on account that I have a job I have to go to, crazy concept, I know.

7. Snickers joined me for training at boxing tonight and so that was super distracting. He’s all about teasing me when I’m skipping and so I tried to eliminate him as a distraction by wearing my iPod and cranking the volume up.

8. With Junior Mint out of the club, this means that rules will be tested and rules will be broken, temporarily that is. Me wearing my iPod is definitely a no-no and Snickers answering his cellphone was another no-no.

9. On the way back to Guum Ggum, Snickers bought us some tangerines… a LOT of tangerines! We were going to give one bag of tangerines to the Building Tool that lives next door but considering that family of three cries and yells at each other every single day, we figured the tangerines would only work as weapons in that house. I’m sure they’d probably just end up throwing them at each other so instead Snickers ate a bunch of them… too many of them. Word of the wise, just because something is a fruit doesn’t mean it doesn’t have sugar in them. Fruit has natural sugar in them and eating over ten of them around 11pm is never a good idea. Too much of a good thing IS a bad thing.

10. Took an evening nap and then woke up to watch “The Biggest Loser”. Dang… I’m addicted to that show. Snickers yelled at Kai on the show while I rooted on Erik. I hope Erik wins the show because he’s been the only one that hasn’t got nasty or has been two-faced. Erik and Marty were my favorite but Marty is off the show now. He got voted off last week but wow, it was awesome to see his follow-up profile. He’s lost so much weight and is quite the looker now. Good for him!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What good thing have you turned bad?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
When it comes to eating right and exercising, there is no "I'll start tomorrow." Tomorrow is disease.

Hi Vbuuren,
Ya, I know. Many Koreans (not all but many) associate light colored hair foreign girls as being Russian and being called Russian means they think you're a Russian prostitute.
