As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, October 3

1. Well I should have known that a packed house who all went to bed early would incidentally mean they’d all wake up early too. Mind ya, I wasn’t really anticipating a 5am wake-up call. I put my head under the covers, pretended to be sleeping but then ending up falling back to sleep.

2. Scoring the position of Snickers’ emergency contact made me quite proud, knowing that he could have picked anyone else, like one of his sisters, or better yet his mother. I was definitely flattered, however, this meant that instead of the hospital calling someone else, they called me. They called me at 6am, looking for Snickers.

3. Back at Guum Ggum, I start practically every morning off with one of my protein-packed pancakes. It’s a combination of oatmeal, egg whites, a banana, and some peanut butter, aka breakfast foods. Now beyond the fact that yes, I do love Korean food, I will never get use to their whole breakfast deal, and lack there of it. Waking up to spicy chicken, seaweed soup, and a bunch of other dishes that don’t differ from their other meals, will never satisfy my morning preferences. Korea really has no breakfast foods.
4. I stand about 5ft 2” but with Snickers standing about 5ft 10”, we made for the perfect persimmon-picking team… hahaha. Gotta love Snickers for his long legs and strength. Having said that though, we did resort to using the picking-stick for some of the harder-to-reach persimmons.
5. K-Gere took Snickers, Snickers’ sister, and I out for a quick spin in the truck. He drove while the three of us literally held on for dear life in the back part of the truck.

6. Around noon we left Granny-K’s house in the country. We would have stayed longer but the hospital was eagerly hunting down Snickers and his hand was hurting him. They hadn’t given him any pain killers and so he was getting eager to get back.

7. An couple of hours after Snickers headed off to the hospital, I headed over there to see him. I feel so bad with him staying there all alone. Sure he’s got roommates there but they’re, well, rather strange.
Snickers’ hospital roommates:

The Russians – Two deaf Korean guys who continually wear clothing with Russia written on it.

Old Man Playboy Wanna-Be - His nickname is so fitting and I’m sure that the nurses are cursing his name as I write this. He’s a 30-some year old odd ball who, when his mother isn’t there babying him, he’s out trying to put his game on the nurses.

Bird Head – We think he’s either the brother or best friend of Old Man Playboy Wanna-Be, and he’s just as odd. Both of them haven’t even so much have showered or changed their clothes since they’ve arrived.

Cinderella – He’s in the next bed to Snickers and for three days straight all he did was sleep. I think he went through some kind of emotional situation becaus all he does is sleep and I’ve yet to hear him speak.

Mr. Chusok – Up until tonight his nickname was Corner Man. He’s a lot older than the others and is always watching TV standing up.

8. With today being Chusok (the Korean Thanksgiving) the hospital was buzzing with family visiting patients. Mr. Chusok became Mr. Chusok on account that he was so sweet in handing out rice cake and rice water to all us present in the room. I thought that was really, really nice of him.

9. As for the others in the room, Bird Head almost scored a kick to the head tonight when he locked us all out of the floor’s lounge room. Snickers and I wanted to relax on the couches there but I take it Bird Head was indulging in some “extra curricular activities” with the aid of the computer… nasty. I’ll never go in that room or look at that guy again!!!

10. Treated Snickers to a filling dinner and then we headed back to his hospital room to relax. Waking up at 5am and relaxing that I was still at the hospital wasn’t exactly what I had anticipated but it was definitely nice to be there with Snickers. Having to say goodbye to him, however, now that was hard. I miss him so much.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Why can't you relax and not take everything so literal?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
