1. In Snickers’ attempt to get a sponsorship from a local wedding hall, today he went and worked for the wedding hall. Not sure how that works and I’m not sure how having their name printed on his game robe before getting a sponsorship works either but he returned to Guum Ggum super proud. He absolutely glowed with pride when he walked in the door and so, despite my own comments that I wanted to share, I held back and shared the moment with him.
2. Did a double workout session today at Hongik, working on my legs, back and chest.
3. Working out later in the morning worked as a reminder to me why 6am training isn’t so bad. After all, 6am weight training at Hongik means not having to wait around for chatting ajjumas (older women) who lounge on the equipment to get off it so that I can train. And yes, getting recognized for my feature article in the newspaper by two ajjumas at Hongik doesn’t mean I find those lounging ajjumas any less annoying.
4. Headed out for dinner with my beautiful man. We had cheese tak galibi (chicken) and it was delish… not as delish as Snickers though ;)
5. I find it rather funny how much of a typical Korean boyfriend Snickers can be at times. Today’s totally typical Korean boyfriend move he made was when he ordered soju at the restaurant. I don’t drink and Snickers drinks once in a very blue moon. Tonight it was apparently a very blue moon. I poured him some soju and then motioned for him to pour me a shot. He reacted with a surprised look and so I asked him when he didn’t pour me some. “You’re not allowed to drink” he responded with. “Says who?” I asked. “Me.”
6. You know who shouldn’t have drank tonight was this no-named strange old man Snickers and I ran into tonight… yikes. We were simply walking by the waterway when I noticed a man on the other side of the path staggering.
7. Call us lame but out entertainment for the next little bit became that old man. He had taken a couple of bad spills into neighboring bushes along the waterway path and so we both agreed that we should help him. Us trying to help him consisted of us trying to call his home with his cell phone and trying to get him into a taxi. We had no such luck though and all that became of our efforts was finding out the man was 60 and definitely too drunk to do anything. His eyes continually rolled back into his head whenever we tried to talk to him.
8. … so we called the cops on him. How ironic I thought, Snickers calling the cops. His friends will get a good giggle over this one if they catch word of this story… hahaha.
9. I played up the whole scene by grasping Snickers’ arm and yelling out “You’re my hero! Save me too… hahaha”
10. I guess me egging him on didn’t help and so with me by his side and “brave juice” (aka the soju) flowing through his veins, Snickers was feeling quite brave tonight. Next heroic thing on his list to do tonight involved him marching into the annoying guitar-playing bar next door and telling them to turn off their flashy sign that beams into my bedroom window. I stood outside, not thinking he was serious about what he was doing, but next thing I knew it he and four people running the bar came out the front door with him. They all stood around looking up at the sign. They looked, they talked, and then they promised to turn it off around 11 or midnight.
QUESTION OF THE DAY…
What gives you an extra kick of courage?
QUOTE OF THE DAY…
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
-- Winston Churchill
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
