As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, October 1

1. Arrived at weight training still half asleep but was definitely wide-eyed when the Hongik Oppa showed me a little surprise he got for me… new 5kg weights!!! Not too sure how it happened but some time ago, and by some time I mean about two years ago, one of two 5kgs dumbbell weights went missing in action. Tricep kickbacks just haven’t been the same since… hahaha.

2. Weight training was then followed by me hustling around the house to get ready and get back out the door. I had promised Snickers I’d visit him at 9am, before my classes.

3. Oh lucky me. I got to see the changing of the bandage … nasty.

4. With tomorrow being a no-school day because of the Chusok holiday, this meant that today was kind of my Friday. It was the end of yet another work week for me.

5. Upon arriving at my office desk, I was greeted by a small envelop. It was a letter from one of my students last week. He use to write me letters and leave secret cards on my desk back when I taught him but with the end of class came the end of his kind words, or so I thought. Today’s heart-felt letter ended with, “Being away from home, I imagine you would miss family and friends a lot, especially at the time such as Chusok but please do remember that you have us. I wish your beautiful smile to last forever.”

6. As if I didn’t already know I had the coolest of cool students at Dankook, today it was all that more clear to me. As I walked around on a somewhat deserted campus, I couldn’t help but notice that all those walking around were my students.

7. This week my students had a writing assignment due and so they all filled up the seats, but with my coworkers all having little to none students show up, I was definitely surprised to see my classes with full attendance.

8. Work was then followed by yet another trip to the hospital to see Snickers. To tell you the truth, I think I’m more concerned about him being there than he is. Don’t get me wrong, I know he’s in good hands, but I’m convinced he must be bored out of his skull.

9. My morning visit was a 2 hour visit. My afternoon visit went from mid afternoon to late evening and reached the 6 hour mark, bringing today’s time spent in the hospital to 8 hours. I took him for dinner, strolled around the block with him, bought him ice cream, sat and watched a drunk being pulled into the hospital, and so on. Ya, it was pretty entertaining, definitely the drunk old man whom the police had to escort to the hospital.

10. Returning to downtown resulted in me calling up Kitty Cat and sipping on coffee with her on the back patio of Coffee Bean. Coffee was followed by downtown strolling and you know, put two girls downtown and shopping almost always becomes a natural consequence of doing so.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What did you do today to make someone smile?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks.
