As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, October 29

1. Day one of my game diet was made official with an early morning 6am weigh-in. Last night I had kissed my “freedom eating” goodbye and celebrated it’s departure with some good grub. Weighed-in today at 54.50kgs, an all-time high for me. I blamed it on last night’s eating but also on my weight training. I’ve been beefing up lately because of it but it’s feeling so good and I’m feeling so super strong as a result.

2. I have to be under 47kgs for weigh-in, meaning that I am aiming to weigh-in at the 46.5kgs marks, which also means that I have exactly 8kgs to lose. That’s 17.6lbs to you out there in the world of pounds.

3. Had my first period writing class students sitting a bit on the edge of their seats today when I showed up and handed out three pieces of paper to every student. The last time I did this it was for an in-class writing activity that they then had to hand in before they left the class, so they all looked at me with worried eyes today. I then went around and told them to reach into my bag and take two of what was in it. What was in it though was chocolate and so handing out chocolate and paper definitely was greeted by confused looks.

4. “The chocolate is to sweeten you up so that you’ll forgive me, and the paper is because I haven’t finished marking your books as promised” I told them. They all laughed, told me that I really didn’t have to bring them chocolate because it was okay, and so I responded by jokingly telling them, “Okay, then give me back my chocolate… hahaha.”

5. My cell phone has been acting up, and by acting up I am referring to the fact that it spontaneously decides to turn off and the screen randomly picks even more random colours to switch to. It’s not good, it’s really not good.

6. Out with the old, in with the new. After much window shopping downtown, Snickers and I picked out the perfect replacement phone. It’s pink and it’s called the “Cooky phone” and I had to laugh cause leave it to Koreans to try to use English and end up calling something crazy, a word that they use to literally mean crazy, as in mentally insane.

7. Originally I was totally against touch-screen phones but I was sold when I saw the Cooky phone. The phone sells at 500,000 won (= $456 CDN) but they told me that if I put it in Snickers’ name I’d get it for free. A free phone?! I thought that was a pretty sweet deal until they told me that I’d have to change my phone number, no thanks. Bargained with them and paid only 150,000 won to keep my old number and put it in Snickers’ name. Correction, it cost Snickers 150,000 won. He insisted on buying me it for a gift. “It’s ok” I told him, “Save your money… for an engagement ring.”

8. Turns out my phone has video calling!!! While waiting outside for Snickers to drop something off at Guum Ggum before grocery shopping, my phone rang but when I answered Snickers’ face came on the screen. It was the first time I had ever seen video calling and so I instantly broke out into a giggle-fest. It was hilarious.

9. Couldn’t resist going to boxing tonight. I haven’t been to boxing since last Friday and I think that’s the longest I’ve been away from it. I showed up late for training but was greeted by a million and one questions from Junior Mint about my where abouts. “Did you miss me?” I asked him. “Sooooooooooooooo much!” he responded with.

10. With about an hour left till Junior Mint wanted to close up the club, I put on all my layers and trained. I trained like an animal.
