As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, November 11

1. Happy Peppero Day to all you out here in the land of kimchi – Korea!!! As for those of you in the Great White North (Canada), my respects to you as you celebrate Remembrance Day.

2. Put in my time at work with my two classes, office hour and then student meetings.

3. Today Grandpa-K’s ceremony was held and so I was really in no mood today to be all cheery at school. I really regretted not ditching my job responsibilities and heading off to be with my soon-to-be in-laws.

4. Lately I’ve been seriously struggling with focusing on my job. I still can’t get over Dankook’s unjustifiable stance they’re taking and I am feeling more and more bitter towards Dankook as a whole by the day. I really wish I didn't have this bitterness in my mouth. It never used to be there and things at school used to be so different. Lately, however, there are some days when I seriously wish I could just quit. I won’t quit though, nor can I. My responsibility is no longer directed towards the school but instead is towards my students. I could never, nor would I ever step away on such a sour note and halfway through the semester. My disappointment with Dankook has nothing to do with my students and, if anything, it’s them who have kept me there for so long.

5. Apparently drinking on weeknights and showing up at work stinking like soju and beer is acceptable but me boxing isn’t… or so I have learned. Cheers to my mates at work who continually get away with it but boo to me who apparently is now the good professor gone bad (because of me being a boxer, apparently).

6. Labeling my homepage “Living on the Flipside” was definitely more appropriate than I ever imagined!!! I love Korea but some things here are just too twisted for my liking.

7. Thankfully, returning to Guum Ggum is like a mini adventure all in itself. I open the door and all the stress of Dankook and whatnot just stops at the door. The name “Guum Ggum” is so incredibly fitting for where I live.

8. I went boxing super late tonight and so it was just Junior Mint, some other dude, and myself training. I’m not too sure what the scoop is on this other dude but he’s always doing errands for Junior Mint and he usually ends up cleaning the place, too. I really need to come up with a nickname for him.

9. Junior Mint is out of commission for the next couple of days on account that he got into some kind of street fight and smashed his knuckle... ouch!

10. Snickers showed up unexpectedly at the club tonight to walk me home. I thought he would be out of town for the next couple of days but I guess not.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How "flipside" is that?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day.
