As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, December 30

1. Woke up twice in the middle of the night in a complete cold sweat and shaking. I wasn’t sure if it was because of a nightmare or what but I had soaked through my thick winter blanket and my floor mat. It was as if someone had poured a couple of buckets of water on me.

2. The initial plan was to go to the Canadian Embassy today to apply for the required “Affidavit of Eligibility of Marriage” and the Report and the “Certificate of Marriage”. Step one would be to fill out and hand in these forms, step two is to legally get married at City Hall and have them fill out the rest of the “Certificate of Marriage” and then step three is to report these completed forms back to the Canadian Embassy. Step one never happened as anticipated today on account that Snickers was all concerned that I was coming down with the flu, and he insisted I stay home and sleep it off today.

3. So much for sleeping it off today. Snickers made a point of text messaging me excessively while he was off at driving school.

4. And if his text messages didn’t already show how concerned he was about me, he left driving school early, showed up with a Coffee Bean coffee to try to cheer me up and then he gave me a message.

5. … an oil massage!!! I was thrilled by the Coffee Bean coffee but him buying oil and then giving me a hot oil back massage was definitely and totally not expected. “Marry me now!” I laughed.

6. Felt like a total knob at the insurance place today when I was asked twice “Where are you from?” Initially I had answered “Canada” but when the woman responded with quite the distorted and confused face, I changed my answer and blurted out “Cheonan”. The look she gave me was the very same look I am repeatedly given when I cross through immigration at the Canadian border. Apparently I am Canadian born but on my immigration card I have to write that I am from Korea. I guess it’s not all that off though, considering come next month I will become part Korean (with the name change)… hahaha.

7. Snickers had this “great” idea to take a so-called short cut, which meant we had to trek up the side of a mountain in runners. And as they say, “what goes up, must come down”, and so down we had to go. Going down was definitely harder than going up, for me that was. Snickers thought he’d be a pro-star by sliding down the mountain. I caught the whole thing on my phone video.

8. Played with K-Gere’s dogs, formerly known as “Chumchi” and “Kimbab”. They now sport silly sounding Korean names that I can’t quite remember let alone pronounce. They’re still only pups but boy are they huge! They’d make an appetizer out of my cute little Jo Mi Nam!!!

9. Headed over to Snickers’ boxingclub for boxing. His buddies showed up, like usual, and his couch stuck to watching us train, like usual. I’ve been boxing at Snickers’ couple for the past week and a bit but it stresses me out to train there.

10. Handed in my professional portfolio at Dankook, meaning that besides the cleaning of my desk and collecting my last couple of paychecks and severance pay, my hands will soon be clean of this place – sweet.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Where are you from?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
