As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, February 24

1. Just like Korea was “painted in red” with the World Cup, today Korea was all wide-eyed and full of anticipation with Kim Yu Na scheduled to skate today in the Olympic’s women figure skating short program.

2. No sooner had Yu Na’s tough, tough competition from Japan finish her routine but it was her turn. I must say, I really liked the Japanese skater’s routine and thought it had much more passion and stirred up more crowd energy than Yu Na’s but I think I felt this because seeing Yu Na’s James Bond hand-gun pose excessively, like on TV and in various other media forms, has got a little annoying. I was really happy to see her come in first ranking and would love to pick her brain about how she stays so focused and whatnot. However, with Korea already being so Yu Na obsessed, I felt kind of bad for the other Korean figure skater, a much younger girl, who was totally lost from Korea’s spotlight.

3. Once we were done watching the Olympic figure skating, Snickers and I headed out for a little drive around town on the scooter… a day date.

4. So much for a little drive, our drive took us on quite the tour of Cheonan, starting off with a stroll around a park and then a little military equipment checking-out at another park.

5. On the other side of Cheonan we ventured on our scooter and ended up at one of my sister-in-laws’ nursery schools that she owns and runs. Inside, there were 16 little ankle bitters… mini Koreans… bite-size mini people. I have no interest in babies so while Snickers got mesmerized over the babies, I played tickle-tag with a couple of the mini Koreans.

6. Got in trouble for running around too much with the mini Koreans… hahaha. I didn’t get into a lot of trouble, don’t get me wrong, but a house full of kids screaming because of my monster noises and me tickling them excessively was rather a big commotion.

7. Next we headed over to an Indian restaurant in Cheonan where I still can’t pronounce the food I so often crave for.

8. Once we returned from our day date Snickers headed off to boxing and then so did I.
9. Ran into Black Skinny, Panty Boy Jr., and Motor Cross at boxing, all of whom were overly eager to ask me about Snickers’ situation between him and his coach. You can’t even begin to imagine how happy I am that Snickers finally pulled the plug on his coach. I know he felt a sense of loyalty and whatnot because it was his coach, Homeboy-C, that initially got him interested in boxing while he was serving time, but that Snickers’ has been out for almost 5 years. A lot has happened in 5 years… the good, the bad, and some very ugly – his belt situation being the ugliest. I’ve never been one to say my relationship with my coach, Junior Mint, is perfect but it, like almost all relationships, has its’ ups and downs. There is some hate mixed with the love but it’s definitely more good than bad and I wish for Snickers to have the same kind of relationship with his coach. The relationship between an athlete and their coach is so vital and is just a key ingredient to the athlete’s success, as is trying hard and believing in your self.
10. Snickers was out kicking butt at pool when I returned from boxing. I sat around the house contemplating and pondering his situation and ended up going for a run. I wanted to run off the stress but no sooner had I reached the half way mark on my run but a scooter pulled up on the path. It was Snickers. He followed behind me while I ran.
