As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, March 16

1. Snickers finally got the break he was looking for, a job interview at Samsung in Cheonan as security, so while he headed out for his interview , I headed out to meet up with Cherry Pie. She’s a stay-at-home wife and pretty much the only set thing on her schedule is the English class she’s taking four days a week. When I head out for boxing, she heads over to study English.

2. A very smiley and very happy Snickers returned. He got the job but now he had to get his ‘teddy bear’ hair chopped.

3. And so we went to get his hair chopped. I tried to distract myself by sipping on my coffee but I couldn’t help but cringe as they snipped away at his hair. Hair or no hair, he’ll always be stunningly and disgustingly beautiful but now how the heck am I going to pull his hair when we’re horse-playing?!... hahaha.

4. The plan for the evening was to go boxing and tape Snickers sparring, only one problem, I forgot the battery for my camera and I realized this after an hour and a half of grueling training. So off I ran home to get my battery that was sitting on the floor charging.

5. K-Gere had showed up to watch us train and I didn’t realize he was in the club until Junior Mint leaned into me during pad work and mentioned it. “Ok… kill me please!” I mumbled, meaning that I wanted Junior Mint to push me extra hard. I really wanted to impression K-Gere and show him how serious I am with my boxing. I think it worked.

6. Black Skinny and Snickers stepped in the ring, got ready, and waited for the bell to start their sparring session.

7. Prior to their sparring, Snickers had asked me if he should go easy on Black Skinny or go full force. I suggested him to give Black Skinny a hard time, justifying it by the fact that pride isn’t what’s going to save him in his fight in Japan, hard training and loads of preparation and dedication will.

8. They fought five rounds but it was almost called quits in the fourth round when Snickers got him with a mean right hook. Black Skinny’s eyes went all groggy and he put his hands on his knees to catch his breath and regain his balance. I tried my best not to smile and be proud of Snickers because I knew Black Skinny’s pride had been badly bruised. “Hard time now, easy time later” is what I’ve always stood by with regards to training.

Note his lips, rather puffy and a bit cut up from the sparring. He wanted me to kiss them better and so I did. "You magic kisses!" he said. "But I don't believe in magic. Those.. those kisses were good old loving."

9. No sooner did Snickers finish sparring with Black Skinny but then Panty Boy Jr. stepped in the ring to go four rounds with him. It’s a guarantee that Black Skinny went home feeling way beyond exhausted but it’ll do him well. He’ll have more than just his opponent coming against him when he steps into the ring in Japan. He’ll have a whole country pulling all the stops to make the Japanese fighter win and so he really needs to dominate the ring and knock his opponent out.

10. I had arrived at boxing around 6:30pm but it wasn’t till after 10pm that I left. K-Gere wanted to buy Snickers and I dinner, so we headed back to K-Gere’s house for a quick fix of spicy chicken.

QUESTION OF THE DAY…
Is Japan ready?

QUOTE OF THE DAY…
