As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Monday, May 3

1. Sat beside a Russian girl today on the bus. She didn’t speak English and I don’t speak Russian, so we spoke Korean – how cool is that?! Very cool.

2. Had my first official legal job as a new F2 holder – substitute teaching out in Seoul at a community center. I scored big today because it was test day, meaning I only had to monitor them, or so I thought. Monitoring also meant seeking out, capturing, restraining, and at some times also ignoring. Actually, it’s wasn’t bad but it wasn’t so much fun either, being that it was test day that is. The students were relatively young and many were very sweet to me. I was itching to speak Korean to them though… hahaha.

3. I always find it interesting what English names Koreans pick for themselves or for others. There’s always a Jenny and a Julia among the girls, and a Ryan among the boys. Today, however, there was also a little boy by the name of Remmington – great name!!!

4. No sooner did I arrive home from Seoul but it was off to boxing for me.

5. Desperately seeking socks, I resorted to telling one of the high school kiddies to take his socks off and give them to me. I had worn sandals to boxing and no, I refuse go Korean-style and wear socks with sandals. My choices were either risk getting boxing boot rash and blisters or wear the dirty socks, so I wore the socks. And despite him having taken them literally right off his feet after just finishing training, I put them on. They were disgustingly soaked in sweat but super warm. My toes were nice and toasty… hahaha.

6. It is official, Little Miss now calls me ‘older sister’ in Korean.

7. Spring is clearly here, I can feel it in my eyes… literally. The change in season drives my eyes bonkers and causes them to itch like there’s no tomorrow. All it takes is one itch and you know you can’t stop itching. It’s like those Lay potato chip commercials, “Betch ya can’t just eat one”, or in this case “Betch ya can’t just itch once”… dang!!!

8. Got word from one of my cousins today that the family summer BBQ will be held Saturday, August 7… awesome!!! Am definitely looking forward to introducing my husband to his now in-laws!

9. The dog next door is one step away from me feeding it grapes!!!

10. The Building Tool complained about Mi Nam, saying that Mi Nam is supposedly “prohibiting him from smoking on the roof top”, whatever that means, yet he totally thinks it’s ok for him to sit in his house with his dog barking it’s head off continuously. Where’s the logic in that? There is no logic. More importantly, how exactly does a four-legged three year old dog that stands no higher than your knee, barks only when accidentally stepped on, who ignores strangers, and hobbies consist of sleeping and eating go about “prohibiting” a full grown man in his 40’s from smoking on the roof top? I tell ya, some people are just too dumb to know how dumb they really are.

QUESTION OF THE DAY…
What did you do today that you don’t want to admit?

QUOTE OF THE DAY…
Behind every argument is some one's ignorance.
Louis D. Brandeis
