As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Adidas IS ALL in... Thursday, September 29

Being called "muscle man" at boxing and then being told again that "REAL women don't box" wasn't how I wanted to end my evening. Snickers had headed off to Suwon after late night training, leaving me home alone and not able to shake off today’s uncomfortable situation that occurred at boxing. It wouldn’t have been such a big deal if it weren’t for who had said it to me, how those around me reacted and the finer details of it all.

When 1am rolled around and I was still tossing around in my blankets, I threw on some running clothes and went for a long run. I thought I’d run to work off the stress of not fitting into the label "woman" here in Korea. 13km later and I still had it on my mind. I figured it was about time I try to take another try at sleeping. That’s when my phone buzzed, letting me know I had an email. It was an email from Adidas in France and it totally drowned out any and all neg. thoughts that were consuming me.

I had written to them earlier this week, to touch base with them about my boxing, what I’ve been doing and what projects I’m starting, like my boxercise class, but the response I got them was beyond what I was expecting – it was SO MUCH more!!!

The email was addressed to both me and various Adidas representatives, of which I think they may be in France, Hong Kong and Korea. In the email they commented that “It goes without saying that we will help you, it will be our pleasure” and I felt so encouraged to be supported by such a brand I love.

But the part of the email that really got to me was when I read “I think it would be good to discuss with Amy how we could use her as a consultant in Korea for the Boxing club community as I think she has connection to help us here. Amy, we have changed our Korean office and staff completely and I think we should meet to discuss this.” I was so thrilled when I read this and felt so completely honored. I met with Adidas Korea once, back when they first opened office, but nothing became of it so I’m glad to see it’s newly improved and my active involvement is being sought out with it.

The email ended with “let us know what you want and we will send it to you Free of Charge” and that was definitely the icing on the cake. So now it’s official, not only is Adidas continually supporting me with my boxing but now they’re assisting me with my boxercise class – how awesome is that?! Sooooo awesome!
