The vibe at boxing has been kicked up a couple of million notches. With just weeks till the Heavy Hitter’s much anticipated take-on and take-down against Team Japan, Snicker’s waiting to hear the finalized date for a title match, and with word spreading of my boxercise class, we’re all eager to pick up those extra pointers, put in the extra effort, and stay a little bit longer.
I’ve been 120% all about boxing lately.
In addition to trying to help do promotional stuff for Snicker’s boxing career – managing a website I made for him, trying to get sponsors, dealing with helping him train, and trying to promote him beyond Korea, I’ve got my own boxing to think about.
Trying to factor in my own boxing career and juggle it has taken a rather strange turn. An unexpected turn, but a great turn. In addition to running my own boxercise class and continuing my one-to-one personal training, I’ve also been recently asked to be a model for a fashion designer out in Seoul who wants to do a photo shoot of me in November when he completes assembling his new line. When I told him that I’m by no means a fashion model – I’m only 5ft 2” – he informed me that he requested me because he wants an edgier, tougher looking lady for the shoot. I wasn’t told much about the shoot but was told I should come wearing “lots of womanly muscle”.
Womenly muscle?!... I didn’t think Korea knew of such a thing but if that’s what he wants than I’ll definitely sport it!!!
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
