Well the mother of the Shorty Sisters – my oh-so-cute dynamic duo – at UP Boxing Club may not be a fan of just how hard I push her two little girls, how I throw them into the ring and yell at them, but these two girls always come back for more.
I’m closer to the older of the two girls, both of which are elementary students, but they’re both equally pretty awesome. Tonight I had them spar each other. I posed as the older sister’s corner coach and Junior Mint acted as the corner coach for the younger sister. I got her all geared up for the bout, laced up her head gear and then put her tiny hands into a pair of boxing gloves that were pretty much the same size of her head. They went two rounds but the second round ended when we called it. My gal won by TKO. She had given her sister quite the bloody lip and had pinned her in the corner.
When we called the match we had them both hug each other and then wash down each other’s head gear. I congratulated both for their great, great effort and than the older one jumped out of the ring, wrapper her arms around my body and said “Thank you!” I had posed as her corner coach, as I usually do, and Junior Mint posed as her younger sister’s corner coach.
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
