As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A New Year of Opportunities, Hope and Coffee... Sunday, January 1

I won’t lie, we failed miserably on conquering last year’s new year’s resolutions, more so Snickers than I though. I don’t want to continually say it was a hard year and lean on that as my crutch but 2011 was definitely a brutally hard year for me so I’m super stoked it’s 2012. It’s a fresh new start with fresh new resolutions and a new outlook. This IS going to be THE year and if not well, I’m certainly going to bust my butt to make it THE year for me… for us.

Like this time last year, Snickers and I headed out to a coffee shop to gather our thoughts and write up some new year’s resolutions. Last year Snickers really wanted to buckle down on his studying of the English language but proof of his failure was evident as soon as I asked him to take his best attempt at writing out his new year’s resolutions in English. First of all, he didn’t capitalize the first letters of his name and then when he sounded out “resolution” and wrote it down, he wrote what appeared to be “lesbo lotion”… hahaha. Too funny but with that he called it quits on trying to continue in English.

Snicker’s 2012 New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Finalize my Canadian visa.
2. By September make x-amount of cash (sorry… secret;) )
3. Once every 2 months, take Amy and Pyen Chi on a 2-day, 1-night trip.
4. Once a month write a letter to Amy.
5. Only fight once a month with Amy.
I questioned Snickers on his fifth resolution. We honestly don’t fight much and when we do it’s over rather silly things, like his friends calling super late at night, like 2am, or some family connected thing like his mother wanting us to move in with her of which my response is “If she doesn’t mind me walking around buck naked and drinking straight from the milk carton than I’m in”. I like my freedom thanks – freedom from the pressure of others, freedom from the presence of others and freedom from my clothes… hahaha.

My 2012 New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Everyday write one page in my Korean diary.
2. Once a month write a letter to my three little nieces in Canada.
3. Once a month prepare a special date for Snickers.
4. Learn how to drive stick shift.
5. Acquire my personal training license.
6. Get down to 15% body fat.
I was going to add “Get my driver’s license” to my list of resolutions but I don’t know how exactly to do that in Korea or if I can for that matter. I don’t even have a Canadian license so it’s not as if I could switch my license to an international license. Snickers wants me to learn how to drive our stick shift car so I’ll do that but that’s only for emergency-only situations. I rather just stick to driving a scooter and though I’m legally not allowed to do so without a scooter let’s get real here people. This is Korea – a country where scooter drivers freely drive on the sidewalks, where high school students load two additional their friends on one single scooter, a country where I’ve already gotten into a scooter accident – two actually – and got paid out by the insurance company.
