As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Internet Ignorance... Monday, March 5

After posting a link to my Glam Girls Night Out dinner event on the ISKA -- Multicultural Family Network in Korea -- Facebook page, I was shocked to read someone's comment below my posting. This is what it read:

CHARLES:

Dear Amy,
What is a "Ladies Only" night? And why do you call yourselves, International Spouses' Club when you are obviously chauvenist, i.e. against "western men married to Korean women" (me?) Change your name to, "western women who hate western men so we married a Korean man," (perhaps some of you were rejected by western men so many times you now want some revenge? Judging by the western women I've seen married to Korean men, no makeup-wearing, not washing their hair for 3 days, and usually fat, I'm not surprised some of you couldn't get a hot western guy like me. Me, on the other hand, I get so many western men in America asking me to introduce them to my beautiful wife's sister or cousin, I am the envy of most white men. Anyway, maybe call yourselves something not "International" because it is a misnomer--you are a bored housewife club. But at least you finally found "some" man willing to take you when your own don't want you. Hooray!

ME:

Wow...
For starters, Ladies Out night is pretty self-explainatory but if I have to explain it to you then well, it's a dinner party for only women. As for why this group is called what it is called, I didn't name it. I'm simply only one member here. And as for being so-called "no makeup-wearing, not washing their hair for 3 days, and usually fat..." I happen to be a female boxer and fitness instructor so my body is pretty much my business. I've got abs, which is probably what you're NOT sporting. I think you really need to relax, go for a jog, or just get lost. This group isn't a haters group so please don't hate here! This group is about helping those foreigners married to Koreans deal with the cultural differences, social issues, and whatnot... of which you clearly don't understand, respect or can even wrap your head around.
Feel free to respond to this guy, he's attached his email address to his comment.

I hate when people shoot their mouth off like this, talking nonsense about something they clearly have no clue about. Me marrying a Korean man has NOTHING to do with being so-called "rejected" by western men, gosh no. I had my picking, trust me, and that's not me boasting or bragging. For a guy who is apparently the "envy" of "most white men", it's odd to note that he only has 6 Facebook friends and looks the way he does. "A hot guy like me [him]"?! Oh please. Somebody needs a reality check because despite him not being attractive physically in my books his ignorance makes him all that uglier.

This guy is obviously bitter about something and I just happened to be there when he wanted to vent. I'm not insulted but instead feel sorry for him. Perhaps he was rejected by a foreign lady who is now happily involved with a Korean man.

Wow. What an arrogant creep. Obviously he has some issues. Why does he care about us western women married to Korean men when he states how envious his friends are of his Asian wife? He seems quite insecure and has a chip on his shoulder. Maybe he was rejected by western women because of his misogynistic personality!

I'm not sure how his comment is even connected to your post. What a weird thing to say. I also don't understand how come he marries a foreigner and he's cool but you marry a foreigner and it's because nobody else wants you? I don't get it.

Are you against western men married to Korean women? Where did he get that?

I'm really confused.
