1. Woke up and had cheese for breakfast... it was great!
2. Tricked Hanna into thinking she wasn't doing work today in our private lesson. She had so much fun writing her "love letters" and so she didn't even realize she wrote 7! Covered the whole alphabet in that lesson and now she can finally write her name to perfection!
3. I love the pure simplicity of my Wisdom class. Today we spent 30 minutes making mail boxes for their "love letters" and all it was was a folded piece of paper, coloured and laminated.
4. Scored a grand total of 8 "love letters" from Wisdom Jinny! Can you feel the love?!
5. During the staff meeting Dave got me day-dreaming about being a crab fisher. They make retarded money and their work season is a mere 6 days. Sure they have the most dangerous job but I got thinking about the SOME of the risks of my job as a kindergarten teacher...
... constant attacks on my immune system with all that sneezing and coughing
... risks of losing an eye due to flying projectiles (ie. scissors, crayons, and glue sticks)
... high levels of physical abuse (ie. being constantly punched in the bum by the mini Koreans)
... then there's the fact that I'm one giant tissue for runny noses, wet bathroom hands, and tears, that can't be too good
... did I mention that I also am a kind of "splash guard" for the other students?! my body always seems to be attracted to the sick kid in the room and so my body acts as a shield for the others, great
... risks of eating poisoned food is high considering the kids will randomly touch it with their dirty hands
... high levels of brain drainage (not damage... drainage) due to the demands on my creativity and patience
... risks of hearing loss due to their prepubescent high pitch cries and screams that I'm sure only dogs can hear 20% of
... risks of more hearing loss caused by their constant desire to yell out answers when I'm standing in the same room
... chances of increased infidelity due to them bursting into the room and running into me, while I'm facing them that is. Ya... they're at my waist level!
... chances of getting addicted to glue for the simple fact that Wisdom class thinks it's funny to glue paper bracelets and necklaces on me and because their sticky hands always seem to be more prone to touch me after a glue activity/worksheet
6. Talk about a good idea turning sour... thought I'd write out a list of ALL my flashcards. After three and a half hours and over 1000 flashcards, I'm pretty much done.... I think.
7. Pay day and contract offer day!
8. Park showed up at my house after work. He's got to stop these random drop-ins on me. I told him I had to go back to school but shortly after coming back I realized he just wasn't going to go away that easily.
9. Entered the gym for training and was greeted by a new trainer (Splitz-Boy is gone I think) who apparently already knows my name and my love for boxing. Turns out he was trying to convince me to help out with the boxing aerobics class. Regardless of the fact that I don't speak enough Korean, I'm not really interested in doing a class that turns the brutal sport of boxing into a kind of dance.... that's not boxing!
10. Spent a good chunk of my evening trying to broaden my Korean vocab for my competition tomorrow with Dream class. The Korean team vrs. the English team. I'm the only member of the Korean team and so pressure is high. These little kids are smart!
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What would be your ultimate dream job?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Maybe this world is another planet's hell.
-- Aldous Huxley
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
