As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Poor Alexander got bombarded with tape, labels, and about 30 kids who all wanted to help label him from head to toe! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, June 30

1. Have you ever woke up and just had this gut feeling that today was going to be rotten?! Well, today was that day for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Woke up at the exact time I was suppose to be getting into Mr. P.E.’s car. Talk about a heart attack and a half.
3. Blazed it to school in a taxi only to realize I had forgotten my handmade Korean dictionary in the taxi! I was SO bummed out; it totally killed the rest of my day!
4. Thankfully it didn’t rain today and so I was able to play my “Food Chain” game with my grade 6 Eumbong elementary kids. I’m sure the school was really impressed with 30 some kids yelling “I am hungry… I am going to eat you!”
5. Amused my grade 5 class with my human body label activity. Poor Alexander got attacked with about 23 labels that we taped on him. They all loved it!
6. Alexander in my grade 5 class today was AWESOME! He’s a pudgy little kid and so my team choco-pie challenge really work on him. His team almost won the box of choco-pies but Albert killed it when I caught him swearing. I felt so bad too cause Alexander left my class in tears.
7. Usually Friday’s lunch means nasty leftovers but today’s lunch was awesome. This is a first!
8. Arrived back at Eumbong Middle School with 3 ½ hours to kill and no motivation to do anything but to try to track down that taxi.
9. Ryan cheered me up with ice cream and by taking me to Emart to get a new book for me to start all over again.
10. Watched the soccer game… well listened to it while I tried to study Korean.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Who's going to win it all?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

Silly times with my little sister Sue. I think ever since she got her glasses she's reached a new level of cuteness. Sue's definitely one cool kid! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, June 29

1. I love it. It’s my first full day of work this week and it’s already Thursday. Tomorrow I only work half a day too cause I teach only elementary (morning classes)… I love my job!
2. The hot topic among my middle school girls was the young hotties at the camp. Apparently they were freshly graduated university students and some of my girls tried to “sell me off” to one of them.
3. Holy heat wave! I tried to hide away in my classroom where it was nice and cool but after classes I was forced to sweat it out in the staff room with the rest of the victims, I mean, teachers.
4. It was so hot that my butt was sweating… seriously! And apparently I wasn’t the only one too. It was rather funny but embarrassing. As we stood up to go to lunch, I noticed I wasn’t the only one sporting a wet tushie. Ha, ha, ha.
5. Applications got handed out today for the summer English camp that I’m helping lead . We weren’t expecting any applications to be filled out till next week and so I was definitely happy and proud to hear that my boy Ryan (2-2 student… my favorite) was the FIRST to hand his in! No sooner did we give it to him that he completed it and gave it back… awesome!
6. Found out later that Ryan won’t be accepted into the English camp cause he didn’t do so well on his English listening test. I warned Mrs. Jung that I will NOT be the one to tell him cause I don’t think that’s cool at all. He shows more ambition towards learning English than many of those who scored higher.
7. I admit it, I let my ePALS group slack off today. They’ve been working hard and so today my groupies and I sat around and chatted in my nice air conditioned classroom while the rest of the school sweated it out and worked!
8. Getting poured on while wearing nothing but ALL white was definitely not on my list of things to do, but, as God would have it, that’s exactly what happened. I closed my eyes while Ryan raced us back on the scooter and I could do nothing but wait and giggle my head off! I have to admit, it was so funny! I love the painted-on look there Ryan…cute!
9. So much for doing my errands tonight!
10. Turns out the site I use for add-ons for my blog is no longer in use so I spent way too much time tonight trying to fix-up my blog.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do I look like a duck to you?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Blame it on the rain.

A cute new store that opened up downtown Cheonan. It's totally girly-girl but it's got some neat stuff. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, June 28

1. Well I did it… I performed the perfect “mock break-up” with Stalker Boy! No, I wasn’t dating him but I had to say something to stop his idiotic multiple messages. I told him a truck load of BS and he ate it up.. this of course taking like 300 text messages to rely the whole ordeal though!
2. And just when I thought I got lucky with Stalker Boy…. thought it was a clean break but his messages showed up every so often on my phone after the “break up”. Messages stopped after I texted him “do you know the word stalker?”
3. Every week during free time (break time) with my grade 6 elementary class at Wollang, I show a short video clip. Usually it’s some animal video like last week’s monkey stuck in a box but this week they said they had a video for me. Their video showed a Japanese girl eating what looks like to be curry. She ends up putting her hand down her throat so she’ll puke and then ends up eating her puke!!! Needless to the say I jumped up to stop the video.
4. Let’s just say, because of the video I skipped lunch at school and didn’t eat till much later!
5. Only had to work half a day today cause after teaching my morning elementary classes I had no other obligations. Raced home only to kick my feet up relax. This is the life baby!
6. In the afternoon my phone was buzzing with random picture messages of some guys in the woods. Turns out it was from my middle school girls who claimed these young Korean guys were the highlight of the school camping trip. Glad to see your school trip was really educational.
7. Did some window-shopping downtown and amused myself with trying eagerly to practice my Korean with anyone that I could. Best conversation was with a 6 year old Korean boy who tried to give me his lollipop AFTER he had already licked it.
8. Bought yet another book to aid in my quest to master the Korean language. I’ve created quite the collection of self-study books!
9. Ah…. looks like Mr. Anonymous is back. And what pleasure do I have of having you drop by?
10. Turns out that Japanese video I saw today, unfortunetly, was made like 6 years ago and apparently was the hot topic in it’s day, or so Ryan tells me. I don’t know what’s more disturbing, watching some girl eat her puke or the fact that there’s people out there that actually watch this stuff!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What was she thinking?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Crack kills.

Not too sure on how hygenic this is but got to give them credit on finding a somewhat creative way to extend their restaurant. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, June 27

1. Woke up and watched the second movie I bought, “The Interpreter”. It starred Nicole Kidman and one of my favorite leading men… Sean Penn!
2. My breakfast and lunch consisted of nothing but watermelon and milk… my afternoon consisted of basically numerous bathroom breaks. You have no idea. That watermelon killed me!
3. In between my many bathroom breaks, I was able to study some of my Korean. Mind you I got rather distracted by my music and ended up doing more dancing in my shorts than studying… oops!
4. Got an email from my boxing trainer back in Canada, Egerton Marcus. His email just totally made my day! I totally miss ya dude!
5. Fun times on the webcam with Narae… shhh… don’t tell anyone she’s Japanese! She’s no Homegirl but she’s my Harajuku girl.
6. Ran into a friend of mine and found it rather amusing that she got groped from behind in “Pervert’s Park”. I’m sure her scream scared him more than he scared her though. She’s got a wicked set of lungs on her I’m sure!
7. Was caught off guard today when two Korean girls in the shoe store called me an "ugly American man". First of all, your little boyfriend there doesn’t think I’m ugly, secondly, wrong country there chicky... not so smart eh?! And lastly, I'm sporting breasts which is the least I can say for what you’re sporting… Can you say KNEE PADS?! As you can tell I definitely wasn’t impressed.
8. Trying to not let stupid people get to me but it just amazes me how this country is so eager to become Westernized and yet some continually refuse us Westerners when we’re really only here to help develop their country. I didn’t leave everything so I could deal with this “stuff”.
9. Arrived at training all ticked off and sad. River was very apologetic for what happened, even though it obviously wasn’t his fault and he said he had the perfect solution… a drink! A drink of power-aid that is. Thanks!
10. Ryan cheered me up by bringing over lots of milk and cooking up a wicked bowl of spaghetti!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How hard can it be to get rid of this money?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Show me the money

Yes, I am kissing a cactus. He is really Ryan's cactus but I've named him "Kitty" cause he's the closest I'll get to having another pet in Korea. Today we bonded. Ha, ha, ha. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, June 26

1. Day off!!! My middle school kids are camping today. I automatically woke up at 6:30am only to realize I didn’t have to go to work…. awesome!
2. Finally dragged my butt out of bed (or should I say, off my sleeping mat) and made it down to my office room where I sat chatting on msn and webcam for about 2 hours.
3. Realized just how lazy I could be when I refused to cook today and instead resorted to eating melted ice cream. Apparently Ryan had forgotten to close the freezer door and well, apparently I’m just one lazy girl today!
4. Met up with River for training and he had a good laugh at my stupidity when I couldn’t figure out the old-school treadmill. Every time I put my hand on it, it would stop. Turns out it said in English “press here for emergency stop”. Ah… I’m babo!
5. Treated myself to a movie day. Watched “Failure to Launch”… it was such a cute movie.
6. I’m sure I annoyed my neighbor’s with my non-stop “Survival Korean chapter 3” that I blasted throughout the house on auto-repeat for oh, a good hour.
7. Did basically nothing today so instead of boring you with some useless comments on stuff like what colour I painted my toes, let’s skip down to highlight number 10 shall we….
8. ...we’re skipping…
9. ... one more jump…

10. What’s up with tonight’s soccer game? Korea was cheering for Australia… their coach is our former coach. Sorry Tasha… dang Italians scored literally in the last few seconds.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Who honestly does that?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
The laziest man I ever met put popcorn in his pancakes so they would turn over by themselves.

Okay... so I admit it. I didn't take any pictures today... but I just realized how many different hair colours I've sported since I got here... WOW! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, June 25

1. Woke up and then Darnell and I ate lunch together at Subway. I think we amused ourselves too much with sitting there in the window people watching.
2. Cruised around Songtan for a bit with Darnell. It’s fun venturing around Korea but there’s no place like home. Jumped on the subway and hurried back to Cheonan.
3. Entertained my fellow Koreans with pretending to not know English when three American soldiers started bothering me on the subway.
4. Seems like no matter how frustrated I get with Ryan, I can never stay mad at him. He picked me up at the subway station. I tried to act all mad but then I cracked a smile when he looked up at me. Saucy boy!
5. I can always tell when Ryan thinks he’s done wrong. He either buys me ice cream or banana milk, or cleans the house. Turns out he cleaned my whole house. He did everything…. vacuumed up the gang of mosquitoes on the ceiling, laundry, dishes, dusting, vacuuming,… he even attacked the couch so he could wash the cover!
6. Went out for “military soup” with Ryan. He tells me that back in the war days, the American soldiers use to through out so much food and so the poor Koreans use to go through their trash, collect the food, and then cook this soup. It definitely was a mix of every thing but it tasted really good!
7. How ironic. Today I bought two movies in Songtan for $5 each and when I started to play one, the first thing that popped up on the screen was an ad for prirated movies. Oh… I’m so rebellious, ha, ha, ha.
8. Had a field day on this massive watermelon and then spent the rest of the evening running back and forth to the bathroom… ha, ha, ha. I’m not joking.
9. Stalker Boy continues to send me “crying pictures”… he’s killing my phone bill too, I’m sure of it!
10. Movie night was a no-go when five minutes into the movie Ryan fell asleep on the floor.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Did you just look at my bum?

Sorry boys.... you guys did an awesome job but the Swiss were playing a different game; a dirty game, not soccer. Ji Sung you'll always be Korea's hero! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, June 24

1. Woke up super early to watch the soccer game with Ryan and it was probably the dirtiest match I’ve ever watched. Did you know the President of FIFA was Swiss… did you see all the plays the refs didn't call... Today Swiss won... what a coincidence. I think all of Korea is crying today.
2. Reached a breaking point with Ryan yelling at the TV and so I got so mad at him. I gave him the rules of my house but I don't think he was too impressed. I love him dearly but today he was TOO Korean for me!
3. Tested out my shopping chapter vocab when I went solo and did some “comfort shopping”. Bought these super cute white shows that scream “Jackie Kennedy Onasis” and had some pretty funny random conversations with the local sellers.
4. Funniest conversation today was with this Pakistan man who sells jewelery. He was struggling with his English and so we ditched the English and chatted in Korean. Got numerous surprised looks from the locals and so it was rather entertaining.
5. Darnell’s plane came in today and so I ventured out to Songtan to see him. He, like ALWAYS, made me wait over an hour for him to get ready. Amused myself by chatting it up with this Korean man, Min So Cheok, who was loving the fact that my boyfriend is Korean.
6. It’s official… I’ve got a Korean stalker... and no I don't mean Je Min. It’s week-old news but today it reached a different level. He's obsessed with me and at first I thought it was a joke but he won't stop messaging me!!! Darnell was quite entertained with Stalker Boy’s latest text message…. “If you leave me alone, I will lose my aim of life and will die”.
7. Darnell was especially entertained with the numerous “crying pictures” Stalker Boy sent me. I met Stalker boy once… he’s supposedly the new flame of a friend. Ya, okay.
8. Besides getting way too many text messages from Stalker Boy, the night was a lot of fun. Darnell and the guys were shocked with my dark hair and we had lots of laughs.
9. Am convinced I ran into a friend’s husband (Bryan) who is in the army but isn’t stationed in this city. Looks like he thinks he’s smart, going on the “prowl” in another city.
10. Apparently Bryan didn’t recognize me or was too shocked to admit it. I was all up in his face and inside I was dying to punch him. I think that’s my biggest fear with marriage…. marrying a “Bryan”… someone who’ll cheat on me. What a dog. Men like that should be castrated!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What ever happened to fair play?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
I promise I will never leave you alone.
-- Stalker Boy

Today my elementary students had picture day for some of the clubs they're in. Spotted some of them in their choir uniforms and I just had to take their picture. Cute?! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, June 23

1. Drama AGAIN with my Eumbong Elementary grade 5 students and it all stems from the bad attitude some of these mini mites are sporting. Put the kids into table teams and well, Kyle had a bit problem with it.
2. Brittney tried to quiet Kyle for me but it didn’t help. He doesn’t understand a word of English and I was out of patience so I yelled at him in Korean. The whole class froze except him.
3. My co-teacher heard me yelling and she came rushing into the room and grabbed both Brittney and Kyle. I tried to make her understand that Brittney wasn’t doing anything wrong but she was furious. I think she takes it personally when something is wrong cause they’re her homeroom class.
4. Topic at the lunch staff table was how my coworkers were all impressed with my Korean. Thanks but no thanks. I snuck away from the table to search out Brittney. She was still crying for the beatings when I found her.
5. Returned to Eumbong Middle School exhausted and with 3 ½ hours to waste till hometime.
6. Inquired about what to do next time attitude takes over my class…. their answer… beat them. Seems like that’s the common idea here. If students act out then beat them…. my question is, what does this solve? I rather they listen to me out of respect then out of fear.
7. Entertained myself with going on a mountain venture and sitting outside studying my Korean.
8. Had the best feeling today when I got a surprised visit from my Wollang Elementary student Christina. Her brother (he’s Jess in my 2-2 class) had told her I was sad the other day and so she walked 20 minutes just to say hi and to give me a flower.
9. I of course was so flattered by Christina’s visit. I walked around the school with her hand-in-hand showing her off and introducing her to everyone. We ran into Jess (brother) who was so shocked she was there…. so funny.
10. STOP THE PRESSES…. Looks like Korean has realized the real women do wear bras bigger than an A or B. Discover a D in LotteMart!!! You can understand my shock and surprise. I bought one but when I tried it on later at home I was really disappointed at it’s freakish shape. Maybe the manufacturer didn’t think anyone would actually buy it!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
And what shape would this be?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Turns out I've got the magic "giggle touch" cause after Jack got creamed by Joe I somehow was able to turn his frown upside down. Got him giggling and then he wouldn't stop. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, June 22

1. This heat is brutal! I question why I even shower in the morning cause by noon I feel like I need another shower. Nothing’s nastier than sticking to everything I come in contact with.
2. Lots of drama with the middle school boys today. First situation of the day was with Adam. Apparently he got mad at his friend and said that he didn’t want to be friends anymore so the other boy stabbed in the finger with an exacto-knife! Wow! Blood was everywhere.
3. Had to leave the staff room cause the yelling got too much for me. The math teacher freaked out on both boys and I think the whole school heard the lashings they got!
4. Second big drama of the day involved a third level student with a first level student. While standing in my classroom, looking out at the students, I was totally shocked to see Joe punch Jack in the face… three times too!
5. Searched the school looking for Joe and Jack cause they had fled the scene. Some teachers saw me with them and so I told them to over react when I hit them. I knew that if I didn’t pretend to seriously beat them that someone else would do the real job.
6. Still amused at how my students resort to kye-bye-bow (rock-scissors-paper) to come to opposing decisions. Ryan (2-2 student) wanted to play soccer instead of coming to epals class and well I lost at kye-bye-bow. Apparently there’s some golden rule that you can’t argue at kye-bye-bow.
7. My co-teacher is still curious as to whether I want to work or have most of next week off. I just looked at her and shook my head. Amazing.
8. Cranked up the air conditioner in my classroom and so when I wasn’t freezing in the classroom I was sweating in the teacher’s room. I feel like an older woman having heat flashes.
9. Ran into the “Friendly Neighbor” again when I came home and again she hit me. She gets great kicks out of wacking me with her purse.
10. Hung out with my little sister. Her mom had made me a beaded ring and Sue had drawn a picture of me. Turns out Sue thinks I’d look better with blue hair and no nose. So funny!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you have any other advice?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

I love how I get paid to have fun with kids. Today I definitely love my job.... at freetime we all wrestled. I escaped with only a cut ear. Poor little Brent is getting smoked here though! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, June 21

1. Rainy day today. It was nice cause it definitely cooled things down. Sticking to everything cause of the heat just isn’t too cool in my books!
2. Had a blast with my Wollang Elementary students. In my grade 6 class we’re doing occupations. We played charades and I was quite impress with Zealot’s impression of me as teacher.
3. Turns out Rosa (little Ms. “I act cute cause I don’t speak a word of English”) has a boyfriend… or should I say HAD. This mystery boy got a friend to deliever a letter to Rosa during class. I didn’t think anything of it until she stood up, gave a dramatic “ahhhhh” and started to cry. Apparently his reasoning for the breakup was because he doesn’t like short girls anymore.
4. Tried to play the hero and make Rosa laugh by grabbing the letter. I told her to show me who this mystery mean boy is so that I could beat him head. I was successful…. she laughed when I said I was going to put him in my kimchi and eat him. Ha, ha, ha.
5. Had an awesome lunch with Christina and Vivian from my grade 6 class. We all got to practice our second languages and so it was quite funny. Konglish time!
6. Got asked the silliest question in the word. My co-teacher told me that next the Middle school students are going camping so I can either come or have a 4 ½ mini holiday. Sarcastically I told her I’d had to get back to her on this one.
7. Super funny class with my teacher’s English class!!! Mr. P.E. totally got into the role play activity. We were focusing in on intonation but he really exaggerated it. I was giggling uncontrollably but he was clueless as to what was so funny.
8. Realized I have officially put myself into the history book of geeks when I was asked about my hobbies and I listed studying as one of them. Whether it was researching how to do a webpage or blog, or now studying Korean, seems like I always have my nose in some kind of study. My Korean study is going great though. I have moved on from the “let’s go shopping” unit to the “where’s the bathroom?” unit with my Korean.
9. Oh man…. soccer is STILL not over?!
10. Passed out tonight with my nose in my Korean studies and woke up in the morning with the weirdest crease on my face.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Where's the bathroom?

One of my favorite Koreans is John. He always had something to smile and giggle about, not just because he was young and innocent, but because he was just a happy person. He was my breath of fresh air! Posted by Picasa

Hey Dude... it's Davey-boy. I have no comment about those strange kangaroos but I do miss "picking your brain" Dave... I don't miss your cheesy choice of music though (ha, ha, ha!) Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, June 20

1. Looks like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” has attacked my middle school 2-1 class and replaced my cool kids with crazy kids. THEY WERE TERRIBLE… and yes, all caps is very appropriate!!! They wouldn’t listen, wouldn’t sit, girls were slapping boys, boys were yelling, and there stood me in the middle of the room. I was in the middle of the twilight zone.
2. Class 2-1 concluded with two students crying and eventually me crying too. One of the students who cried was Timmy, a little boy I’ve been really working hard with. He’s got such potential but is at that “I want to be cool” stage. I was so frustrated and disappointed so I too shed some tears so I tried to breath and explain it to my co-teacher.
3. Great…. the only real advice my co-workers could give me was for me to “beat them red”…. not too sure on what “red” really means.
4. Just when I thought my day was going “great”, Sci guy left school without me and so I had to impose on another co-worker for a ride. She dropped me off and I almost got hit by some crazy scooter driver on the sidewalk. I feel asleep on impact with my couch, only to wake up to some moth in my hair.
5. … And if that wasn’t bad enough, I spotted an army of mosquitoes that Ryan’s bug zapper killed and left behind on the floor. So now I had dead bugs on my floor and on my feet.
6. … Oh ya, and Ryan forgot to replace the empty toilet roll with a new one and so that wasn’t cool either.
7. Decided to kick my butt at training and work the stress out on the treadmill. I guess I was looking too serious cause River tried so hard to make me laugh. He really succeeded when he jumped on the back of my treadmill and almost took a nose dive!!! I laughed so hard I got a major side cramp.
8. It’s days like this that I really think about those I’m thankful for in my laugh; those who lift me up when I’m down or take my mind to another space, away from the stress.
9. Big shout outs to those I’ve met in Korea! I think the two people that have effected me the most and met here would have to be my former coworker Dave and one of my little kindergarten students, John.
10. Ordered in pizza and then barried my nose in my Korean language books so that I wouldn’t think about all the friends I miss. I even miss you Louis…. I must be going crazy!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Where did you all go?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...

Tried to teach my lesson but some annoying bee wouldn't leave me alone. I Kung Fu moved his butt but it splattered on my white board. One student tried to use a paper to clean it up but it just smeared it more... so gross. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, June 19

1. Woke up at 4am to cheer on the Korean soccer team as they played the French. Cheonan ended up closing off the downtown area again as hardcore fans came out to watch the game on the massive TV outside of Yawoori.
2. Called up my family at half time and it was pretty cool that we were on opposite sides of this massive globe both but doing the same thing… watching Korea tie with the French.
3. Walked out on my morning extra help class for the level 2 students after I came to the conclusion that I’m just wasting my time. Now I know why these students struggle with their English. I’m done trying to think up creative ways to get to these totally unmotivated kids.
4. Lectured that same class on how I left everything… my country, home, family, friends and job to come teach in Korea and that didn’t mean teaching rude children. They got my message but took it the wrong way and now I’m sure half of them think I live a sad lonely life… I don’t but I just wanted them to smarten up.
5. Turns out almost half of my middle school students watched the Korean soccer team play and so my English class quickly turned into nap time for many.
6. Entertained my 1-1 class with my stupid rendition of some random Kung Fu fighter with the silly class “beat stick” and ended up killing a bumble bee in the act. It was so funny but splat went the bumble bee all over my white board!
7. Discovered “milk bread” from Paris Baguette…. ah, it’s awesome! Now I can drink my milk and eat it too! Now if only they made banana milk bread…. oh ya baby. I’d be all over that like a cheap shirt!
8. Oh the horror…. I’m running out of Skippy peanut butter!
9. I can’t wait till all this soccer is over so that I can have my boyfriend back! It’s been like a cheesy rendition of “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, with the TV doing the snatching. I’m convinced that when his eyes catch glimpse of soccer on TV he’s like a deer caught in the headlights! Don’t look into the light Ryan! Ha, ha, ha.
10. Did some hardcore Korean studying and fell asleep with my nose literally in the books.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
What have you done to my boyfriend?

Nothings more refreshing to watch than a bunch of random kids being kids. Today I sat outside of Yawoori and watched these mini Koreans giggle in the water. So cute! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, June 18

1. Happy Father’s Day Dad! You’ve proven yourself worthy of this day… over and over again!
2. Turns out Ryan’s weird mosquito plug-in zapper isn’t so weird after all. Woke up and had to vacuum up a whole army of dead mosquitoes… nasty but effective. Die mosquitoes!
3. I don’t know who she is or what she does but I always run into her and she always either yells at me or hits me…. she is the “Friendly Neighbor”. She’s super funny and is trying to befriend me but always catches me off guard. Today as I was scrambling in my bag for my cell as I was exiting the apartment elevator, I ran into her. She instantly hit me across the shoulder to get me to look up and then she laughed so loud.
4. Broke down and ripped off my fancy nails. I really liked them but they really limited what I could do. Mind you, now I can’t reach that ultra hard spot in my ear…. dang!
5. I think Ryan’s over-dosing on his “manly medicine”… aka garlic pellets. Koreans have idea that eating excess garlic makes men more manly. Not too sure what that really means but I can say that it’s really lowering Ryan’s stats in regards to daily kisses. Ha, ha, ha!
6. Finally checked out the newer Lotte Mart and it’s huge! It even has a hair salon in it. I had a good laugh at the surprised looks I got from the make-up lady who didn’t know what to think of my white skin, dark hair and Korean talk.
7. Despite my love for Korea and the fact I’m suppose to support Korea by hating Japanese… congrats to Narae for your country’s tie (Japan) in soccer today! Hey…. after being called Russian one too many times I think it’s only expected I cheer for the other team once in awhile!
8. Got word that Darnell’s month leave from the Air Force is coming to an end and so he returns to Korea this upcoming Friday. Cool!
9. ONLY one hundred and eighty-nine days till CRUNCH DAY and silly me slacked off today with my studies.

10. Plan was to go to bed extra early so that I could wake up early Monday morning and watch the soccer game. Ended up going to bed around 1am.

I took this picture yesterday of Mickey but I just had to add it in... this is what I pretty much did all day today, sleep! Unlike Mickey though, I had a blanket. That bus was so cold! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, June 17

1. Slept pretty much all day.
2. Woke up, ate some chicken porridge and then went back to bed for a senior’s nap.
3. Found myself going to acupuncture with Ryan. This is now my second time going there. It wasn’t as bad as last time though cause at least this time I knew when the needles would stop after 17.
4. Came home and slept some more!
5. … and some more!
6. Really didn’t feel like doing much today and so tonight I was the anti-social by canceling my plans of going out and instead staying in.
7. Took a little stroll around downtown and ended up at the local movie rental place where they lady had a good laugh at me being attacked by what looked like a monster June bug. Oddly enough the June bug made me miss my dad. My dad hates June bugs with a passion. I remember once my brothers, my dad and I went to the my public school to watch fire works on Canada Day. But at the sight of one single June bug, my dad went racing home and left us there. It was so funny to see a grown man so afraid of a little bug! Ha, ha, ha.
8. Ryan had a good laugh at my phone bill for this month. Turns out all those text messages that Sung Hoon sends me, the ones with pictures, are costing me a fortune.
9. Rented a movie and watched it alone.
10. Turns out I’ve already seen the movie and so it that was rather pointless… watching the same cheesy movie twice.

Could I possibly be more lazy today?

We had lots of laughs today despite the sad nature of us getting together. Today we said goodbye to Homegirl Jenn. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Friday, June 16

1. Woke up at 4:30am and got ready to take Jenn to the airport. Mikey surprised Jenn by showing up at the bus station and that was super sweet.
2. Well it’s obvious Mr. P.E. teacher understands less than I gave him credit for cause he called me at 7:30am wondering where I was.
3. Jenn entertained Mickey and us with her overloaded suitcases. The baggage check lady told her to lighten them up a bit and so what did Jenn do… take out a book! What?!… it wasn’t even a hard copy book. Try again Jenn.
4. “Hey Mickey, look it’s a bear!” Turns out it was a super huge dog in a cage on some airport trolley. Turns out he didn’t like me either and so he got all angry in his cage. Jokes on him. He got so excited he caused his cage to flip off the trolley… it was SOOOOOOOOOO funny!
5. The three of us girls were so busy giggling that we didn’t have a chance to really realize that we had said good-bye. Mickey and I stood there watching Jenn’s big feet walk away from us on the other side of the glass wall.
6. Ventured into the infamous Lim’s clothing store in Songtan that Jenn always comments about. Score on the tank tops!
7. Drove back with Micky in the super cold, uncomfortable bus. I knew I was in trouble when 30 minutes into the 2 hour drive I had to pee.
8. I was home by 2pm and asleep by 2:05pm on the couch.
9. Didn’t wake up till 9:40pm when Ryan showed up asking what’s for supper.
10. Went back to bed a little bit after midnight after I studied Korean for about an hour.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Can you turn around again?

Hey look I'm turning Korean.... not only do I wear grandma panties but I've also got my cellphone, or "handphone" as they call it, attached to my head!
Just jokes. This picture was taken a couple of weekends ago when I was in Songtan with Homegirl. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Thursday, June 15

1. Another staff member at my school had their birthday and well, my school jumps at any opportunity to celebrate. Today’s birthday celebration was especially funny when they pulled out campaign after first period and drank up.
2. Once again I find myself being misinformed about the class schedule changes. This time it made me 15 minutes late for a 45 minute class. The mentioned it in today’s morning staff meeting but of course, they mentioned it in Korean and no one clued in to the fact that I don’t know Korean that well.
3. Turns out there’s huge school wide contest in Asan and my principle nominated me to be entered into it. It meant that one of the teachers had to sit in on my lesson and video tape the whole thing. I had to laugh when they chose my class 2-2 to sit in on…. this class is my favorite and we’ve got this awesome energy in class.
4. Of course Chloe and Ryan were right in there, answering all the questions so that I’d look extra good on video. Ryan even went so far as to yell out “Ms. B, I love your English class!” right when the class (and filming) was about to finish I thought it was a little too much but we all laughed uncontrollably over it.
5. Turns out my new system of table teams is working like a charm in ALL my classes. Not only are kids taking a more active role in class but the level of competition is really bring out a lot of participation in students who use to be mute in my class!
6. Ryan from class 2-2 amused me when he handed in his epal autobiography homework. His lists of hobbies and interests included “Ms. B, Ms. B, Ms. B… and more Ms. B”.
7. Met up with my little sister Sue tonight and she entertained me with her freakish ability to do the wave with her tongue…. not something she should be bragging about either. I love this mini Korean!

8. Only in Korea with a department store proudly take up 1/3 of the store displaying pickled cabbage... kimchi!!! Oh the smell!
9. Turns out Emart decided to rearrange EVERYTHING and so I totally had a hard time hunting down what I wanted which ended in me buying more than I originally came for. Score on the English-Korean dictionary with the pictures and sentence examples.
10. Wasn’t too impressed when I waited and waited at Emart for Ryan to respond to my text messages and pick me up. Turns out his phone is for the birds and he didn’t get any of my messages.

As the countdown gets smaller and smaller, it's starting to sink in that she is actually leaving. You suck Jenn (just joking but it does suck that you're leaving). Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, June 14

1. Flat out… my morning sucked! Why, you asked. Well, I forgot to set my alarm so I got ready in military style, my morning coffee consisted of only water (coffee machine ran out), had it out with the photocopier that choked on my limited color paper, and rainy season started.
2. Not particularly looking forward to a month long of non-stop rain.
3. After spending the previous day planning this awesome food chain game for my elementary grade 6 class, I had to scramble to find another place to host the game. We played in the gym but it meant I had 32 kids running around dangerously in a room no bigger than the average classroom.
4. Relief came at lunchtime when my little buddy forced his way so that he could sit with me. This little guy is so curious about me and is such a cutie.
5. Not cool…. some mini Korean spilt some of her soup down the back of me as she struggled to get a seat. Can you say third degree burns?! It was so stinkin’ hot!
6. Spent my HUGE prep slot with emailing my mom and writing an autobiography (for my ePALS group). Turns out I’ve lived a pretty interesting life.
7. Meet up with homegirl Jenn for the evening… hot date, just joking. Ha, ha, ha. We went to this new restaurant that I like and they totally loved us there. I was pretty impressed when the manager personally brought over some drinks on the house.
8. Funniest moment of the night was definitely watching some random girl walk into the restaurant’s glass doors. She mistook them for motion-sensor doors and totally disregarded the “push button to open door” button. I’m sure everyone heard the big smack!!! Even funnier was the fact that her nose print was left on the door!
9. Movie night with Jenn and then Ryan joined us later. Good pickings Jenn… Harrison Ford was awesome. I love the sensitive and more vulnerable part he played in tonight’s movie (“Firewall”).

10. Called up my mom and had a good chat with her and after lots of convincing, I got Ryan to talk to her. He pulled a "Eddie Hascal" (character off the TV show "Leave it to Beaver") by calling my mom "Ma'am". I think he was nervous to talk to her but it was so cute.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How am I going to say good-bye to you?

Jenn's goodbye dinner consisted of lots of great food, lots of laughs, good company, and even better soccer! Check out the top left picture... note that Ryan's cutting the meat and watching soccer at the same time...ha, ha, ha! Posted by Picasa

Korean fans gone wild!!! Try to guess at how many fans are on this truck... my guess, TOO MANY! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Tuesday, June 13

1. Had a big Korean test today. It involved reading, writing (sentences and spelling) and a speaking component. I don’t know my mark yet but he said he was impressed…. Impressed, I ask. I study pretty much EVERY night and so I better get a wicked mark.
2. Thought I’d use some of the info I got from my little business trip (trip to the all boys school) on Friday and so today I organized all my classes into groups and assigned table captains like they had done.
3. We definitely amused each other with thinking up group names amongst ourselves. Best group name went to me for naming Terry’s group “The Kimchi Killers”… I got a little carried away though with the kimchi dance I made. Ha, ha, ha.
4. Fighting to get this Friday off. My elementary students will be at camp and so I’d only have my parents’ class at 3:20pm to teach… like I don’t already get enough days off. Ha, ha, ha. Hoping to take Jenn to the airport if I get the day off.

5. Was suppose to teach River how to skip today but that totally bombed. Not only did he just eat and so he had stomach cramps, but he also forgot his jump rope and I had a nasty blister from Monday's run with no socks. We're winners! Ha, ha, ha.
6. Thought it amusing to see just how hardcore of a soccer fan Ryan is. Apparently he left work early so that he could rush to the restaurant and have first pickings at a good seat. And then when we were there, his eyes were glued to the TV... we all had a good laugh at his cuteness.
7. Tonight was the big night of homegirl Jenn’s going away dinner… that sucks… not the dinner but having to accept that she’s going real soon. Ryan and I showed up in style… wearing our Park Ji Sung couple shirts.
8. KOREA FIGHTING!!! Congrats to Korea for their awesome win over Togo, 2-1.
9. Celebrated the win and cruised downtown Cheonan on the scooter to check out all the celebrations. Downtown was SO infested with fans! They had closed off the main road, set up a massive TV and had a couple of thousand loud fans watch the game. We showed up after the game but they were still there celebrating the victory. It was awesome! Felt like a paparazzi though trying to take numerous random photos of all the ciaos. The police had made a human barricade to regulate the traffic…. haven’t they ever heard of pilons?!

10. Definitely impressed many Koreans with wearing my Park Ji Sung soccer jersey and being a foreigner. They loved it! I love it how one simple common interest, in this case soccer, has brought this whole country to it’s feet. It felt like we were one big group of friends.

Caught in the act... what this picture doesn't show is the fact that it's last period and these two are oddly at the bus stop. Trying to sneak away is almost impossible when there's nothing around to hide you for miles! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Monday, June 12

1. Rushed my Polish butt to school so that I could give my students plenty of time for their English speaking retest but only TWO showed up!!!
2. Really can’t stand it when certain students play dumb and complain to my co-teacher that they were unaware of the retest. First of all, I have been reminding them for a week and secondly, I wrote out a FULL explanation on the board in KOREAN!!!
3. Everyday I eat lunch with my students Lyndia and Vanessa as a means of helping them further their English and to help them with the upcoming school-wide English contest. Today’s topic of discussion was from Vanessa who wanted to talk about dieting. She’s too young to know that word let alone care about that kind of stuff.
4. Interesting argument with Ryan over some celebrity’s “cup size”. Now listen Ryan, if I was a dress size 0 with a size B chest I’d look busty too! ”AA” isn’t exactly a battery we’re talking about… it’s the average size of Korean women! … Yet another way I am proudly representing the Canadian women!
5. Point proven once again with a visit to Emart where they sell ONLY size A and B. Now, unless they’re trying to sell me these as knee pads, I really have no use for them… well, maybe when I was TWELVE!!!
6. Ate some “dip and dots” tonight and am still clueless as to why anyone would choose these over ice cream. It feels like rolled up, super cold, mini balls of ice cream that are sporting mad freezer burn! I only really liked them the first two times I ate them.
7. Got Ryan to call the restaurant owner so to make sure he shows the soccer game tomorrow. Turns out we’re not the only ones who’ve harassed this poor dude. Ha, ha, ha.
8. Hooray to new friends who aren’t going to leave in a year!!! Having to say goodbye to Jenn is going to royally suck and so I was refreshed today with meeting a new friend who’s not Korean but who’s home is Korea.
9. Was too tired to watch the Japan play Australia soccer tonight but no worries, I TOTALLY heard all the plays with Ryan’s cheering and booing!!!
10. Congrats to Tasha and her country for kicking Japan’s butt! Sorry Narae… you’re goalie was awesome but your team got killed!

Will Korea win tomorrow night?

This is an older picture of me and my ghetto bootie.... it's not a duck bum Ryan! Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, June 11

1. Proved to be quite the entertainer when my cheaper than cheap Thailand shoes snapped in half and I went flying into the intersection and into on-coming traffic. Ya, I was downtown and EVERYONE saw me! Oh my gosh!
2. Ryan’s phone proved to be cheaper than my cheap Thai shoes. I called and called and called, hoping he’d come and help me walk. I had fallen and twisted my ankle.
3. Some random Korean guy came to my rescue. He helped me walk to the shoe seller to buy new shoes and then he helped me walk home.
4. Ran into Je Min on the way home and now I’m sure he thinks I’m cheating on Ryan. I walked home with the aid of this stranger who pretty much was carrying me. As we turned the corner there stood Je Min,… the look on his face was priceless. He giggled and I’m sure he thinks this was a big “secret” or something.
5. Ryan tried to help me by putting a Nike wrist band on my ankle. It worked great until I tried to get it off and ended up struggling.
6. What seemed like a simple underwear shopping trip ended up being more difficult than it should have been. It turned into a city-wide search! Ended up traveling to Emart and even Ssangyong-Dong. After River’s warning about the boy students and their mirrors (you can pretty much figure that one out), I’m not about to be the discussion at the lunch table. Time to gear up! Ha, ha, ha.
7. Pretty impressed at Korea’s image of themselves but I got news for you Korea… I highly doubt selling on sizes 90 and 95 in underwear targets all your Korean customers!!!
8. Found out that what I ate yesterday, what I thought was mushrooms, was actually sliced snails! Yuck! I think Ryan gets kicks out of telling me these things.
9. Ryan asked me about deodorant today and I thought it hilarious. Surprisingly enough I have men’s deodorant in my make-up cabinet and so I gave it to him. I had to educate him about it… he doesn’t even know how to say it properly. Too funny! Like MOST Koreans, he’s NEVER worn it before. Must be nice to walk around always smelling like flowers… ha, ha, ha.
10. Got word late last night that Ryan’s uncle died and so that kind of put a damper on the evening. He says he wasn’t close with him, but still, it’s sad.

QUESTION OF THE DAY…
I see size small, smaller and smallest, but what happened to the size for us normal girls?

QUOTE OF THE DAY…
If I had 40,000 won panties, I’d walk around in only them!

Yes Jenn, I couldn't agree with you more. I too am surprised I have hair on my head after the abuse I give my hair! Ha, ha, ha. Posted by Picasa

Highlights of my Day... Saturday, June 10

1. It’s official… my hair has been raped! I did it. Woke up and my hair felt like tissue; so fragile. Babied my hair all day, starting with a long deep conditioning treatment.
2. Already trying to think of an appropriate excuse to tell my students as to why I dyed my hair. The other day I told them that I hated being called Russian and they didn’t understand what was wrong with that. I told them that Russian girls do bad things here in Korea but I think they now think Russian girls steal or something.
3. Ventured over to the restaurant that I went to yesterday with Mrs. Jung…. Pumpkin Village.
4. Go overly eager about going hardcore about learning Korean and so I found myself at the bookstore eyeing more study books. Unfortunately, while reading random pages, I read out loud a bad word. Ryan gave me a stern warning not to repeat it but now I can’t get it out of my head!!!
5. Took a cat nap and woke up with a huge headache. Canceled my plans to go to Songtan.
6. Well deciding to stay home was a total bust. Not only did I miss out on a lot of fun but I had to listen to soccer ALL night!
7. Ryan had warned me that he was a soccer freak but I didn’t know that meant soccer-holic! He stayed up till 6am so that he could watch all three world cup games tonight.
8. Joked around with my new bad Korean word and ya, Ryan REALLY didn’t see the humor in that one! Oops!
9. Late night text messages from Sung Hoon were also not considered so funny by Ryan. Relax Ryan… you’re the winner. You’ve got the girl!

10. Went to sleep all ticked off that I stayed home only to have to listen to roaring fans scream on TV and watch Ryan as his eyes were glued to the TV set.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Is it over yet?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
You're not a soccer freak, you're a total freak!

Highlights of my Day... Friday, June 9

1. Took the afternoon off to attend a TESOL seminar at a local Cheonan middle school. Arrived at the school and really would have appreciated an heads up on the fact that it’s a boys only school…. 400 boys!
2. Thankfully I opted out on wearing a skirt today cause it was bad enough being the youngest teacher there.
3. Meet this really cool older dude who’s originally from Toronto, Canada. We remanised about Toronto and so that was nice. Apparently he’s made a living out of traveling and teaching… and somehow has found a wife to go along with the ride. Sweet.
4. You know you’ve been in Korea too long when a co-worker tells you she touches her sons’ “red pepper” (..as they refer to it in Korea) and it doesn’t phase you!!! Still confused as to whether this is a good luck thing for the family tree or just some unexplainable cultural custom.
5. Finally had it… while trying on a dress in the change room in Yawoori, I overhead the two sales ladies talking. I knew it was me they were referring to when they said Russian and so I was ticked. I literally tossed the dress off me and walked out not fully dressed (pants and jacket undone).
6. Marched over to the local beauty shop and bought hair dye only to come home and discover the brown dye caused my hair to turn BLUE! My intentions were to not look like a Russian but not to look like a smurf either!
7. Ryan surprised me by ordering food and having it sent to my house. I opened the door looking like my head had just been revenged upon by a gang of smurfs. My hair was all messy, not too mention BLUE, and so the delivery boy was definitely surprised to see me.
8. Hero of the day was Ryan, who, despite his eagerness to watch the opening ceremony of the soccer game, agreed to drive over to LotteMart to see if my new contacts were in and to buy me more hair dye.
9. Eventually got my hair back to a normal color. It’s now dark brown and I could cared less what color it come out as given that it didn’t remain blue and that I didn’t go bald!
10. Stayed home and watched the Germans kick Costa Rica’s butt in the first game of the 2006 World Cup.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Who's going to win the World Cup?
