1. I’M TERRIBLE… I totally to forgot to add in yesterday’s entry that my student Vanessa got FIRST PLACE in the English speaking contest!!!! This past week alone I tutored for ten hours within only three days! She’s awesome and I couldn’t be more proud of her!
2. Took Ryan out for supper at one of my favorite restaurants in Cheonan… The Pumpkin Place!!! Their pumpkin in honey is almost right up there with Mama Bere’s (my mom of course) good old Polish cabbage rolls… almost!
3. Got goggly-eyed by the biggest Korean dude I’ve seen in Korea yet! I’m guessing he weighs in at about 270lbs and so that’s a lot of muscle! He was impressed by with my Korean language and called me a beauty. I thought it was cute and so as Ryan and I drove away on the scooter I waved to him. He stood there waving like a little boy and I had a good giggle. He reminded me so much of my ex, Pete. So big but so sweet.
4. Showed up at Louise’s going away party at Mbar and was totally shocked to see the place swarming with foreigners! I’ve never seen over 80% of these people but apparently they live in Cheonan. Just goes to show you how much I DON’T go out!
5. Ran into Darren. I like Darren but I’ve branded him “Ryan’s friend” and so I rarely see him. Always fun chats with him though and so I’m hoping he stays in Korea longer than he says he will.
6. Felt like a fool after hearing how I had jumped to conclusions the other night. Thanks but now can you help me Darren take my foot out of my mouth?!
7. Louise and I had a good laugh at just how “Koreanized” I’ve become…. the super girly lazy top, the earrings, heart diamond necklace, silver heeled shoes, hair in a ponytail, the fact that I rather associate myself with the Korean staff members than met new foreigners, and even the accent I’ve somehow have developed… it all screams “Korean”!
8. Apparently Louise is with me on the “I love Korean men” bandwagon! Ha, ha, ha. It’s all about the jet black hair and baby skin!
9. Mini reunion with the Mbar staff… well, the few original ones that are still there. Much love to the Koreans but Je Min was overly excited to see me and so much later, like a 5am, text messages from him began.
10. Late night movie night with Ryan. We went all out and watched two movies! The first one, “11:14” was a dark comedy and boy was it twisted! Both thumbs up on that one. As for the second one, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”… if I had more than two thumbs I’d face them down too! It had a lot of top notch names but the story really lost my interest after the first few minutes.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Where did all these people come from?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Freaks are the much needed escape from the humdrum. They are poetry.
-- Albert Perry
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
