As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Wednesday, September 6

1. Game day with my Wollang Elementary students was a TOTAL success!!! Last week my grade 6 students made these cool giant game boards and so today we used them.
2. What better way to amuse and entertain a room packed of students then have them play a game where they have to do silly exercises. In addition to having the students write numerous English sentences on their game board, I also had them fill in the remaining squares with a bit of army training. They loved it and it left everyone in giggles!!!
3. The game board and focused language was different for my grade 5 class but they too had to do army exercises. Turns out Kyle is not only the class cutie but the class strong boy! Kyle you’re awesome!
4. By the end of my classes all my students were exhausted and drained. Had a good laugh watching them in the lunch room. I was convinced half of them were going to pass out!
5. Met the new hottie in my building and it was so embarrassing. I was text messaging on my phone when the elevator door opened. I stepped out and totally colliding with this huge buff Korean! I’m sure that’ll leave a bruise (the phone stabbing into my chest that is). A neighbor of mine had told me about him and so there he stood in the flesh. Great hair!
6. New words of the day… “schoogle” and “skinship”. Apparently these are the new Konglish words. Schoogle refers to searching on Goggle search engine while at school. So it’s “school” plus “goggle”. As for “skinship”, I’m not too sure on this one but Byung Hyuk explained that it’s being touchy with friends. It’s not really flirtatious but instead relatively innocent touching (ie. someone’s arm, shoulder, etc.)
7. Apparently Byung Hyuk’s the biggest fan of skinship….ha, ha, ha. He likes my white girl skin… ha, ha, ha!
8. Turn of events… apparently my gym is having a hard time trying to find a replacement for Byung Hyuk and so next week is going to be his last week, not this Friday. Darn, eh?! Ha, ha, ha.
9. Byung Hyuk introduced me to three university girls who have apparently been eager to talk English with me. So he dragged them over and for the first couple of minutes they stood giggling. I thought I’d help by speaking Konglish but it ended up causing them to giggle more. Eventually we finally generated somewhat of a conversation.
10. No sooner did the university students leave and let me train but Byung Hyuk brought over a little boy. The boy didn’t speak a word of English but I found him a lot more interesting to talk to than the girls who apparently think my friend is hot and focused their questions around him. I find children are easy to talk to cause they use basic language and ask simple questions.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Do you like kimchi?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance.

I love the word skinship! A good example of it is girls (and sometimes guys!) holding hands in Korea. Also, walking arm in arm. Oh yeah, and probably when Koreans greet each other by touching hands. That doesn't make sense but you know how when you see someone you haven't seen in a while (maybe just women), they'll take your hand in theirs or weave their fingers through yours? Obviously hard to explain, but I'm sure you've experienced it! :)
