As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Highlights of my Day... Sunday, February 8

1. Turns out Jae Min wasn't the only one checking out my apartment door today, my Friendly Neighbour was too... you know, the lady that occasionally and very randomly hits me and then makes me kimchi, that lady. Anyways, as it turns out, she was coming out of her apartment tonight when she noticed some guy (Jae Min) standing outside my door and repeatedly ringing my bell. "Look" she told me. "I took his picture". I didn't ask her why she decided to take his picture but I also didn't know whether to laugh or step back in shock.

2. I like my Friendly Neighbour though, despite her totally-out-of-the-blue punches to my shoulder when I run into her in the elevator, or anywhere in public for that matter, she's super hilarious. Q is convinced she's a million dollar cougar. She has a couple of Prada bags and we've must have seen her in a million different fur coats!

3. Anyways, she was and still is the only neighbour in my hall that I know but our initial meeting was rather awkward. It was the first day I had moved into Sambu and my now-ex had locked me out of my own apartment and so I sat outside the door on the hallway floor, crying. She walked by me and started to talk to me. I buried my head into my hands and then she punched me in the shoulder. I looked up and gave her a "touch-me-again-I-dare-you" look in which she did, giggled, walked away, and then returned with a massive jar of kimchi. I didn't know whether it was some kind of peace offering or if it was a "welcome to the building" gift.

4. On the opposite hall, across from my apartment and the courtyard, there's this artsy guy that lives there. He lives next to the annoyingly super tall man that always walks like his pants are a bit too tight. I ran into Artsy today. I think he's in the fashion industry or something cause he comes across as very well-mannered and polite but his style is rather odd. Something never seems quite right about his clothes. It's like he makes his own or recreates new clothes. He's cool though. He doesn't give me kimchi or shoulder punches but instead he always asks me where I'm going and randomly strange questions about colour, like do I like the colour pink and if I think orange hair is pretty.

5. At 2pm Q and I raced it over to the boxing club to meet up with Panty Boy Jr. for training. I sprinted up the stairs and there he was. I apologized for being a bit late but he reassured me it was ok. I felt relieved, not because he said it was ok but how so much more relaxed he looked today. Yesterday he was at training but he looked so not himself... so stressed and not his usual smiley self. He's got four more kilograms to lose for his game set in two weeks. He's already lost 5kgs.

6. So we trained. I told Panty Boy Jr. to put on his tunes and then I cranked them up. Panty Boy Jr. is big into singers like Eminem, Akon, and Nelly, and he very rarely plays Korean songs at the club.

7. After training we drove Panty Boy Jr. home. He lives way out in Mokcheon, which is about an hour ride on the local bus that never seems to travel straight from A to B, but instead likes to hit all the letters in the alphabet before it arrives at B.

8. Jae Min continues to pester me about his girlfriend wanting to see my dog. It was so frustrating. At one point I seriously thought of sending him a picture text of Mi Nam and saying, "There now she's seen Mi Nam so leave me alone"... but I didn't. I'm ok with meeting him but I hate his whole "my girlfriend wants to meet you" stunt he always pulls. I'm so sick of being the "trophy friend" cause that's exactly what's going on here. Jae Min girlfriends tend to have an expirey date similar to milk, one week. And this is how it always goes down, he meets a new girl and tries to impress her by asking me to come out to join them, where upon he tries to impress the new girl by telling her that he and I have been close friends for so long. He sits and brags about me and my accomplishments, which usually impresses them but not only does it do nothing for my ego but it makes me feel like I'm being mocked and put on show. Apparently now Mi Nam has been lured into his whole "impress the girl" act. I'm not buying it anymore and so I texted him: "I've never met your girlfriend and so I really don't care what she wants. Please find another accessory for your conversations." He gave me this long whinny text message back in attempts of trying to make me feel somehow sorry for him but I didn't buy it. It'd be one thing if he wanted to hang out but to make me out as some kind of trophy friend, a way to lure in his new girls... oh please. I think I liked him better when we didn't speak the same language and he was a pudgy little trouble maker with no money. At least then I thought he was real with me and I was ignorant to things.

9. Double checked-out that chocolate car at Yawoori and no, it's not all chocolate Ryan. It's a real car just painted in chocolate and boy did I look really cool when I got down on fours to check the underneath part of the car. But yes, the cookies are real... and still edible... hahaha.

10. With Q having to work tomorrow at 5am, this meant we had an early evening. We checked out the Kyobo Bookstore and I picked up another book. I was thinking to pick up another one of Sophie Kinsella's books but decided to try another author. So I bought "Running with Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs. It's a #1 New York Tims bestseller, now a major motion picture, and a memoir so I thought it'd be an interesting read but halfway through the book I decided that I'm not really into it. He wrote about discovering his mother's lesbian relationship with the minister's wife and other things that I really don't care to spend my hours reading, not to mention I really don't care for his chose of words. So I'm halfway through the book now but am thinking it'd be a better coaster for my milk than something to preoccupy my time and brain with.... next!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Any good book recommendations?

I've always liked "City of Embers", "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", and "A Separate Peace".

Yo Bman,
Hmmm... I'll have to check those out. It may have to wait until I get back to Canada though cause the amount of English books in the bookstores around my house are pretty limited :(
