My plane was scheduled for late evening and though I wouldn’t meet up with Snickers until tomorrow sometime – and somehow – and had no idea on where I’d be staying the night, I was excited about going to the Philippines.
Boarded the plane. My two seating partners to the right of me were two Korean sisters, Stella (age 7) and Yea Eun (age 12). At first glance of me, one of the very few foreigners on the packed plane, the two girls giggled.
Spent the first ten minutes on the plane exchanging smiles and giggles with the two sisters but then after that it the three of us bonded pretty quickly. We played silly games like ‘hangman’ and ‘boxes’ in my notebook and while Stella leaned on my shoulder and fell asleep, Yea Eun and I talked about her plans to visit Toronto, Canada this August.
Our plane ride ended with the girls waving me goodbye and I ended up handing Yea Eun my parent’s house number in Canada as a means of an emergency contact.
I had anticipated spending the night at the airport but that was a definite no-go in that no sooner do you exit the plane and pass through customs but then you’re immediately outside and surrounded by taxi drivers. I thought about just roaming the streets but there seemed to be no one around but the street dogs and hovering taxi drivers.
I had landed in Cebu, Philippines after 1am but anticipated heading over to the neighboring island, Bohol, where I’d be meeting up with Snickers at the airport. So, with that in mind, I headed over to the pier and got a room at a local hotel.
QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How am I going to find Snickers tomorrow?
QUOTE OF THE DAY...
In the field of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind.
-- Louis Pasteur
As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).
After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.
Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.
