As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Today's Schedule... Friday, September 17

4am -- Woke up and did HIIT training.

I’ve hit a plateau with training, so after much contemplation and talking with one of my female bodybuilder friends in Canada, via email, I’ve decided to change up my training. Part of the plan incorporates doing HIIT training three days a week with my running first thing in the morning which, because I have early tutoring, means I have to wake up so dang early.

My HIIT running routine:
1. 5 minute warm-up run
2. 1 minute easy running followed by 1 minute of sprinting – repeated 6 times
3. 5 minute cool-down run.
Total time, 22 minutes.

Some Reasons as to Why First-Thing Cardio is the Way to Go:
1. If you eat before a workout, you have to burn off what you just gobbled down before your body even begins to tap into stored body fat.
2. Your metabolic rate stays elevated for a period even after the workout is over.
3. In the morning there is less glucose (carbs), glycogen, and insulin in your bloodstream, so you’ll burn more fat.
4. It gives you a sense of accomplishment which in turn releases mood-enhancing endorphins.
5. It “energizes” you and wakes you up.
6. It can help you to regulate your appetite for the rest of the day.
7. You’ll be less likely to blow off your workout, unlike evening workouts that have obstacles like friends wanting to hang out, homework to be done, or extended dinner dates.

4:40am -- Booted around the riverside with Mi Nam.

5am -- Meal #1: Protein-packed oatmeal pancake with blueberries and 4 eggs.

5:50am -- Headed out the door to go tutor Blue.

6:05am -- Got a text message from Blue – tutoring canceled, he slept in.

6:15am -- Headed back to bed.

8am -- Woke up and had meal #2. Small apple with natural peanut butter for dipping.

10:30am -- Meal #3: A whole wheat tortilla packed with curry tuna, lettuce and spinach.

10:50am -- Tutoring interview at a church -- potential tutoring 9-12 hours a week for them!!!

1pm -- Meal #4: Handful of homemade trail mix and a banana.

1:15pm -- Headed out to Seoul with Snickers. Destination Costco in Seoul.

I’ve been on this huge curry obsession lately. That’s the thing about me, I find one great thing I love, like a song or food dish for example, and I use it and abuse it until I’m sick of it. Take for example the fact that my iPod only has one song on it. I’ve trained countless hours already this week, listening to one song over and over… and over. As for my current curry obsession, today I ate tuna curry and at Costco I bought both beef curry and chicken curry.

4pm -- Meal #5: Steamed sweet potato with a small side salad with veggies and chicken.

5pm -- Returned home, watched Mi Nam enjoy a $30 plate of steak, then had play time with him.

We bought the meat yesterday and cooked it last night. Snickers forgot to put it back in the fridge so we woke up today to what looked like a layer of lard on it, so we gave it to Mi Nam. Not too sure on what they really mean by “it’s a dog’s life” but this little dog definitely has some sweet moments in his life!!!
7pm -- Meal #6: Celery sticks with a light oil dressing and some of my tuna curry.

8:30pm -- Walked over to the boxing club for training.

Junior Mint killed me in the ring during pad work and now I have the swollen brow bone to prove it. I mistook one of his calls and ended up taking a wickedly strong pad to the side of my face for all to see.
10pm -- Meal #7: Protein shake with a glass of grinded spinach and water to chase it down.

Today’s been a long day. I eat every 2.5 to 3 hours so my day always consists of six smaller meals. Today, however, not only did I train super early but I also trained late, so I decided to have a seventh meal.
11pm -- Fell asleep during a much needed foot massage.
