As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

The Attack of the Baby Bug... Saturday, November 6

Waking up to a dead cell phone battery and then getting a text from one of my sister-in-laws, telling me that Snickers has been trying to call me, was definitely a sour start to my day. I’ve waited two and a half weeks to hear from him, so I was absolutely crushed when I heard I had missed his calls.

It wasn’t until later in the evening that he got a chance to call me back. I had the expected uncomfortable conversation regarding my scooter accident to which he responded by telling me that the taxi driver was lucky Snickers wasn’t there when it happened. “I would have killed him”, he added, to which I laughed and told him, “Trust me, he knows that…. so many people told him exactly that.”

I got an email from my oldest brother today and he commented on my accident. “Dad tells me that you had a bad accident with a taxi, I'm sorry to hear that… You may be able to knock people out, but cars knock you out! Keep the violence in the ring!”… hahaha.

Anyways, hearing Snickers’ voice after way too long was nothing short of pure candy for my ears. I kept relatively quiet while he talked about this and that. His voice never sounded so good to hear as it did today.

I can’t say I was happy to hear that Snickers wants so desperately to quit and come back to Korea. For my own sake, I’d love for him to quit and be on the first plane back but I know he can’t exactly do that given his situation, legally. He’s more or less stuck there; stuck there for three months. He talked to me about trying to runaway but I urged him to reconsider, especially considering the potential for him to return to Japan for boxing and the brutal legal complications that could breakout.

He says he’ll try to talk to his boss about ending his contract early but I seriously doubt it’ll be at all possible. Him not being here is one thing but going weeks on end without even so much a simple phone call just kills me. I need some kind of contact.

For a total 1 hour, 17 minutes and 17 seconds of my day, broken up among three phone conversations, I got to hear my beautiful man’s sweet voice.

As for the rest of today…

Plans to go visit my mother-in-law and sister-in-law got immediately post-poned when I got word that my other sister-in-law is pregnant. She’s already got twins and twins run very strong in her family. Her husband is a twin, she’s got twin sons, but I doubt she’s wishing for double-trouble to greet her again.

Post-poned plans then got immediately canned when I got word that not only is one of my sister-in-laws pregnant with her third child but so is my oldest brother and his wife. They too are expecting a third child.

So I’ve got two nieces in Canada, two nephews in Korea, and two more mini members on their way…. cool. Better them than me though. I’m still not convinced babies are anything less than annoying poop-dropping, money-eating, grunting mini butterballs of pudge and smell. (hahaha… “Tell me what you really think Amy”). Even Cheeto Girl mentioned to me the other day that she wanted a baby. Am I seriously the only one who has absolutely no interesting in popping out a kid anytime soon, or at all for that matter?!

I wanted to share my brother’s news with my in-laws and I was hoping to make my weekly visit to their house but with so many people in my life getting the pregnant bug like a common cold, I didn’t dare venture over. I didn’t want to catch whatever’s been going around, so I stayed home, safe and sound.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
Have you caught the bug?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
