As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Baby Steps... Monday, November 1

In attempt to encourage my Church Kiddies to be more proactive with studying English outside of the classroom, I have been trying to set an example with my own Korean studying. Today I bought a book. It’s a vocabulary book by which I plan on using to learn eight new Korean words a day.

8 words a day = 56 words a week = 2,920 words a year!!!

Today’s Words of The Day

1. 사고 --> accident
나쁜 택시 운전사 때문에 사고났어요. 
Because of the bad taxi driver, I had an accident.

2. 별명 --> nickname
저는 학상이었을때 Baby Bear가 별명 이었어요.
When I was a student, my nickname was Baby Bear.

3. ..대신 --> instead of
피곤하면 커피 대신 과일 먹어요. 
If I am tired, I eat fruit instead of coffee.

4. ..러 가요 --> to go do something
복싱하러 가요. 
I am going to go boxing.

5. 시끄럽다 --> to be noisy
시끄럽게하면 때려요… ㅋㅋㅋ! 
If they are noisy just beat them… hahaha!

6. 한나절 --> half a day
매주 수요일 교회에 한나절 일해요. 
Every Wednesday I work half a day at the church.

7. 도착하다 --> to arrive
집에 도착할때 나한테 연락해주세요. 
When you arrive home please call me.

8. 특별한 --> to be special
전에 남편한테 처음 이야기했을때 당신이 특별한 사람인지 알았어요.
Before I first talked to my husband, I knew he was a special person.

Beyond the initial writing down each new word in my book, writing a simple English translation and then tackling the task of creating an example sentence, my plan of execution to learning my daily words is to read them over several times a day. Today I read my entries over after most of my six meals, while waiting for my Church Kiddies to come to class, and then again before I went to sleep. It took only but a couple of minutes each time but times the number of repeated reads and well, it worked out to be a good chunk of time. Day one, very successful.

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How have you bettered yourself today?

QUOTE OF THE DAY...
Language exerts hidden power, like a moon on the tides.
